Thinking of buying a DC2R

As stated above I am strongly thinking of purchasing a dc2r
BUT
I am on my red p's (nearly)
Just some quick questions
Are new conrods, pistons, pulleys etc require a mod plate?
Does removal of items like backseat etc require a mod plate?
Before you chop me up saying just search the net, I have and could not get a definitive answer
If you could get specific i would appreciate it :)
And yes i know I am a p plater thinking of getting a ITR, but I am simply addicted to beautiful peices of engineering, whenever i go past a slightly modified ride I immediately evaluate it in detail

What ever you do buy one that is well kept, you may pay a little more today but it will be well worth it over time.

I know that even if it does, its a different mod code if it needs one, there are only 2 codes that ARE NOT allowed

unless you are going to do a serious bottom end build (which is gonna need headwork + endless amount of other bits) you will be ok, it all depends on the % increase of displacement. If your only 16 and are yet to get your P's I suggest just by a reasonably stock car and just learn how to drive, before you get too excited.

BTW what state are you in? You may wanna check with your RTA

So a mod plate is only needed an there is an increase in displacement %? Im asking because the cheapest Dc2r in QLD ($16000) has new pistons, conrods and pulleys and I am curious if I am allowed to drive it or if i should move along (legally) I have driven a dc2r before and LOVED it.
Also mate, just cause someone does not have his/her p plates, does that make them 16? I am 20. Why not get the car you love? Buying a shit box car would only make me more angry knowing i could have got the car i would easily have on open's.
Im in Queensland and I have checked and did not get a good asnwer....

I'll say it again, it will be fine you don't need a mod plate.

If you are hesitant because it has a had new pistons, rods etc installed then don't buy it.

Have you asked the seller why it has been re-built? or if it is stock pistons/rods or if they are larger pistons or forged??

Dont get anything thats been rebuilt or refurbished or even modified to an extent. Stock DC2R is the best first choice for a p-plater like you, its hard to find a good stock these days as most owners thrash the car and commonly replace the clutch and/or the gearbox.
Dont go past a slight modification such as suspension setup/extra chassis rigidity...anything beyond that like engine/drivetrain/intake/exhaust mods, give it a miss (no offence to those have modded their DC2R's though *peace*)

Take it from my experience of having a bone stock DC2R for almost 10 years of joy (still running strong) and never had to replace anything, and i mean ANYTHING major, lol

what is wrong with a dc2r with slight i/h/e mods?
i would like to know your reason for staying away from cars with such mods...

cause one would think it would be thrashed with mods, theres only one reason ppl put mods like that on, an thats to make it faster

If the cars had a rebuild, than u really gotta ask urself, why rebuild it... an who built it, receipts an warranty, as well as who tuned etc etc

It is illegal to have your back seats removed from you car in QLD.
The only way to get around this is to register your car as a 2 seater which requires a mod plate.

Jords - I have sent the guy an email the other night inquiring about it, but forgot to ask if he has receipts and who did it
EVLGTR - Yeh I have been thinking about that, the one i drove was completely stock and sounded like a monster
Mugen - I plan on doing so and finding good history because i know there are plenty of fake type r's out there

If that one proves unreliable I have spotted two more for around that price range
Both are white, one is completely bone stock (same as stated before price), the other is slightly modded with only suspension, audio and upgraded clutch (around 1grand higher than above)

The only mods i would do to it on P plates is an Injen CAI, Hondata chip, Full Mugen twinloop exhaust
Generally, if i bought the completely stock one, and had around 3-4G's to spend on mods, what would you personally do?
Also what does the car sound like completely stock, i can find youtube clips?

Well you could go two routes

upgrade to a good set of coilovers ie. zeal and keeping it stock until u get more funds
upgrade i/h/e before u get the hondata/tune

The second option sounds alot better, as from what i know a stock type r is one of the best fwd cars in the world around a track, so stock sussy is amazing for street

Btw i dont want a fat cannon shit on it, i like the quiter exhausts that still give good power

dont mod the car, learn to drive it first, take it to a track day, an than go from there, find out what needs to be improved an go from there... BUT since its a street car, i cant really say much lol

Its easy to say a cars fast, but harder to drive it how its meant to be, i think u will find a stock dc2r is more than what ur asking for, it certainly made a impression on me

whose to say you cant thrash a stock car?
or modify the car, thrash it, and then return it to stock....?

u cant always assume a stock car is always excellent. buying a used car is always difficult because its difficult to find the service history of the vehicle and how it was treated.

regarding the rebuild theory, that sounds right. who would want to rebuild such a fine engine. must have been really really THRASHED...

Seriously, a DC2R is built to be driven vigorously , even in stock form....... if you don't drive it hard then you have no idea of they potential of the car. Its all about the level of maintainence and service history.

Skit- A car that has moderate mods, using quality parts and reasonably low km's is fine IMO, you just need to check it out properly.
On the other hand I can understand why you want to buy a stock car and modify it to your own taste, I bought my own DC2r 6 years ago in stock form.

a DC2R is an excellent car, safe, and great fun to drive. Get one that has logbooks, or receipts, as most oweners will do minor servicing themselves.

LOL Please.
No such thing as thrashing as Type R IMHO provided it's serviced regularly and well maintained.
My DC5R, gets a decent push every day at least, runs as strong as when i bought it, almost 2 years now and the car is slightly modified... Will be getting abit more deeper next year.
Car presents immaculately outside and it's Milano Red.

Mods = Doesn't mean the car gets thrashed and tbh... No such thing as thrashing a Type R.
The Motor is designed to be redlined, the B18C is a fantastic motor and is still going very strong for it's age, just don't expect the car to be 100% perfect lol.

I Would personally avoid anything that's been rebuilt though... go for something that's stock but try and grab something with a few mods provided there quality modifications, not rubbish.


Also... IMO... It's illegal to not push a Type R to it's limits...

Its just the misconception with modded cars thats why many stay away, if u know what ur looking at, odds are modded cars are a bonus....

I agree with Grosso here, I've spent thousands on modding my car, extensive sussy work but I've never taken it to the track. Thrashing a dc2r doesn't mean it's a dud, all comes down to the owner and how well they've taken care of it.

If you drive a car everyday and never thrash it for such a long period of time and then the new owner purchases the car (DC2R) and being a younger driver, he/she will want the see the potential...
Im telling you, the first thing that will most likely break will be the engine mounts..
Due to the fact, they are so used to easy driving then all of a sudden driving habits change and it's abit more rough...

What else can happen??

A car that's been looked after like a baby, which means no abuse to it what-so-ever will IMO have a different life when you own it and could end up costing you abit when things give way alot sooner then you expect considering you thought you were buying a "clean stock" Type R..

theres a white one for sale here on ozhonda, its got a perfect full service history and no revs history. car only has 130k km's which is still low for dc2r's these days. Stocko and in qld too.

cant find a better buy than that. cant go wrong with a dc2r aye :D

My dc2r has been looked after like a baby for almost 10 years and runs as if i got it out of a dealer yesterday, everything works, VTEC still strong, all mechanical and electronics still works (ive never taken it to an "auto electrician" if thats what your thinking LOL) . Whats your point?

I suggested on the 4th post of this thread that he learn how to drive as he is still on his P's.... and I dont think its his first car.

The majority of the comments are about how DC2R's are built well and they can be driven vigorously.... there is a world of difference between driving a car the way it was designed to be driven and 'abusing' a car.

upon reading threw this thread, ill drop my 2cents..

basically im on my red p's.. 19 year old this year. I bought my dc2r about 18 months ago years ago stock standard, and pretty much just drove like a granny because I was still a 'novice' driver.. over time I have put some basic mods here and there.. (sussy, intake, zorst) to be honest I don't believe in doing internals and such on p plates as it is just asking for trouble.... my dc2r is a daily drive and yeap I give it a good hit every now and again.., the motor still pulls and performs great, the clutch is still strong all this after 170kms... from my experience aslong as the car is serviced regularly and properly these cars will last a very long time.

honestly, i wouldn't buy the nicest dc2r you can find, buy a rough pos (mechanically sound though) as you'll no doubt ding/ scratch/write it off

my mate just picked his up yesterday. White DC2R fully stock standard except for a cd player. Original owner, full Honda service history (has never been to any other workshop) with only 92000kms on it. Ive seen the car irl it really is immaculate, I think I found 5little stone chips on the front, a crack in the sideskirt, some gutter rash on the rims and a very small scratch on the rear bumper Interior is like new as are the recaros. For 16k it seemed to good to be true at first but he had it inspected and all they could find was the rear tyres were low....why wasnt there any like this around back when I was looking for one 1.5years ago :(

Agreed. ****ing ridiculous. I rolled a 1.3L Nissan Pulsar.

P-platers should not be driving Type Rs.
