revving it at 9.770 rpm for 1.1 secs. oh well hopefully he replaces da enginge wit a vtec:)
i was thinking that if you down shift from 5th to 3rd.. your gears would crunch.. and not alllowing you to do such thing. .guess i was rong.. and this guy.. NUTS ?!

I thought there would have been a rev limitered at red line to stop the car from reving? Or is that only limited to some cars?
if your gearbox is pushing the car going on the speed the car travels, unless you put your foot on the clutch the gearbox will drive the crank to what ever speed it needs to go to.. If that makes sence. the Rev-limiter doesnt work on downshifts because the rev's are driveline-speed related rather than fuel or throttle related..
   Ta, that kind of explains the rev limiter part but doesnt explain goin from 5-1st LO and also bein at 9rpm for 1.1second when the redline is at 6. sumfin rpm.
work it out in your car 120kmh in 5th might be 3500rpm redline in 1st lets you do 55kmh.. to do 100-120 kmh in 1st you'd need to pull 12,000rpm or more.. so they car slams the vavles until the break, the rods break, the pistons crack and the car over 1-2 seconds drops back onto the rev counter.
I can say I have hit 3rd instead of 5th down the strip, but I knew I had before my foot was off the clutch. I think the needle just passed 10,000rpm before I had my foot back on the clutch..
ive got this on video
lol
i've miss-shifted at 180-odd in 4th to 3rd before...
the tacho needle when off the dial and i was sure that i'd broken something, but it was all good :)
same, 3rd to 2nd in mine just over 100km/h i think
needle went to 8000rpm
theres a site with photos of a honda engine that did something like 16,000 rpm after a misshift. i have a feeling it was a RSX too. engine just went pop. theres photos of the oil sump full of chunky bits and the pistons look like potatos.
ive seen that too... couldnt believe what i saw cos the pistons had turned into found metal blobsQuote:

I AM GUESSING YOU HAVE NO IDEA WAT A RSX IS , it would of had a k20 vtec motor, just not as hard tuned as the type r versionsQuote:

vtec y0!
and jules its fine to downshift as long as u dont do it like the chump in the link hehehe
if into the right gear it will be fine
16k rpm? shit thats nearly as much as a rotor man!!! no wonder it blew rofl
would be sad to blow an engine like that tho
guess i should stop engine breaking...Quote:

not all drivers are good drivers.
THe idiot was prob street racing, not dragging and tryed to downshift for a corner, n just stuffed it up
note to self, do not mis shift frmo 5th to 1st, lol but yeh as redliner said, the shift isnt easy to go in unless your doing less than 30km/h youd obviously know somethings abit off if your goin that fast trying to go into 1st.
Yeah, and they keep making better and better gearboxes that make it so easy to pick any gear you want. I have done a 3rd into 2nd UP shift before and the tacho went off the dial for a split second. I clutched in pretty quickly. The engine is still ok though, I checked the compression and dynoed it and it was fine.
