Hey guys,
Just wondering what milage you guys get in your Jazz. So for me, my car does 8.3-8.5l/100km. Is this normal?
on average around 7.2ish L/100KMs with 50% freeway driving however i have full exhaust modifications and cold air intake, if i do 70% freeway driving then i get around 6.5L /100kms
Oh man, looks like I got to go to the mechanics or something to check it out, I'm pretty much running a stock engine too.
what sort of driving do you do? how many people in the car? aircon on? do you floor your car? fuel economy has alot of factors, or it might just be a dodgy o2 sensor :)
Ours gets anywhere between 5.7-6.8L/100km (1.3L Jazz) depending on how it's driven for the week. Funny thing you can try - Cruise at 80km/h and reset the meter. You will be using 2.3-3L/100km. Awesome lol
I hate running the aircon as it drinks my fuel and usually it's only me in the car, sometimes two. I try not to floor my car, shifting around 2500rpm sometimes around 3000rpm. Lets hope it is a dodgy O2. Oh and by the way, I drive an 07 VTi-S so can that be a factor?
What fuel do you use and when was it last serviced?
All vti/s run the same engine, L15A, and i assume you are driving a manual and not paddle shifting on a cvt so it shouldn't make a difference.
Personally i've used 91, 95, and 98 i find i get the most amount of power from the 98 but worse milage whereas with 91 i seem to get slightly more milage from it, however i stick with 98 because it lets me sleep better at night.
I actually tested them both as i was driving to bendigo and back about 3 times in one week, for the first 2 runs i was on 98 fuel and i managed to climb the hills fairly easily, whereas my final run on the 91 it was a struggle. It same road, same conditions, same car, same drivier, therefore i justify the use of 98 that way.
I'm running 95 and it was last serviced 2,xxx ago
My old 1.3L GD average 6.5L/100ks in urban areas (not city, but still reasonably busy). Went down to ~4L on the highway, best i saw was 3.5L
New 1.5L GE gets nowhere near that, averaging 7.8L doing the same urban runs, haven't really gone on a long highway trip w/ it yet.
This is with Vortex 98. Definitely get better mileage and more power with the 98 than 95 or E10.
i'd say your shifting to low, and your engine is trying harder to get moving with less torque, you could use alot of throttle and suck up heaps of juice
but still not accelerate if there isnt enough torque. with max torque at 4800 (i think) try changing at 5500, that way the rev drop back wont drop the torque so much. and you get fairly consistent and in the usable power band.
hope it makes sense.
shifting around 2500rpm and 3000rpm is about right for a jazz (dependant on driving conditions), because in normal driving conditions it should be fine. However if you are skipping gears say going from 2nd to 4th then i can see your point in having it at a higher rpm.
i usually get round 6-6.5 per tank when driving to/from the city on w/e. to/from work (hwy/fwy) my PB is 5 :P
i change round 2.5-3k rpm in urban and 4-5k on hwy/fwy.
car is 03 vti-s manual.
lol@ 5500rpm shift
my understanding is that to be eco with most power you should change as high as possible while on non-vtec cam (3.5-4k rpm?).
I checked this morning and ive been getting 6.4L. Thats from 80% urban driving and 20% highway. Though i just serviced my car last weekend, changed engine oil/filter, gearbox oil and coolant.
I put in 95 Unleaded and shift at 2.5-3k and sometimes i give it a workout at long stretches.
Check your thermostat, if its stuck open then your engine will take a long time to warm up. This means the ECU will run a rich mixture till its warmed up.
How do I check the thermo? I think that might be the problem, everytime I turn on my engine, get the greenish blue thing saying that the engine is cold.
that's normal the teal C is just to state that the engine is still cold, it should take like 3 - 4 mins for the engine to warm up on a 'cold start'.
however if it takes any longer than that, then you may have a problem.
Hey guys, i just recently bought a '02 Jazz VTI Automatic with 78,000kms on the clock. I've been driving for abit and I could only manage an average of 9.0L/100km. Lowest I got is 8.5L/100km.
After reading all your posts here, it seems to be on the high side. I do maybe about 70% city and 30% freeway driving. Do you guys have any idea what could be wrong with the car?
I also pumped a tank of 91 unleaded into it, should I go for 94 to be on the safe side?
Cheers!
My thread which asked the exact same question about DC2/4 Integras was closed. I guess that some people are denied assistance by the community, while others are not. Seems a strange policy.
Being an automatic it would probably consume abit more petrol than a manual but not by a huge difference. 9L/100KM with 70% city driving does seem a little high. However i have had fuel economies over 10L/100KM whenever i am in start stop traffic for a prolonged period of time. Essentially each time you move off from stationary you are wasting the most amount of petrol, are you crawling around? or intensive start stop?
You may find that you get a little more power/economy from using 94 however it's mostly dependant on the way you drive.
I used to have 10L/100km, but that was me gunning it down with a couple mates.
9L/100kms sounds about right then, it's actually reasonably good too unless you have a smart car or a hybrid.
in your particular scenario i wouldn't think filling with 94/98 would make much of a difference as peak hour traffic kills fuel economy.
i think i got round 8L/100km once in peakhour traffic, so 9 sounds bout right. suppose it would vary with mods/traffic/distance etc.
those replies kinda made me feel better now, hehe thanks a lot guys! :)
at least i know i didn't get ripped off with the car!
Check your tyre pressures too, if the pressures are too low you can use up more fuel, especially on freeway runs.
also wheel size, as having bigger wheels affects how the power is distributed from the gearbox, if you put 18's on a car which would originally run 14's then 1st gear would feel like 3rd when you launch
how do you guys get the trip on the odometer? or is it a thing on the older/newer jazzs? i got a gd3 now and all i see is my odometer... GAY
use the knob on the odometer, when you press it once it goes to the trip odometer and if you press it again it goes to the fuel/100kms.
to reset it you hold it in for 3-5secs. also if you twist the knob it changes how bright the instruments are.
cvt keeps me arnd 7... i dont drive like a hoon, cos im just coming off L's so my driving is very slow, unless i feel like i wanna go fast, then my driving is around 8?
THANKSS FILLIT! you're answering all my questions.
i was playing with my knob all the way home (no pun intended).
i got 7.2 with some spirited driving once in a while, but i just filled up with 98octane, i didnt eat for 2 days.
but yeah do you guys fill up with 91 or whats the go with the jazz freaks out there?
Anyone else find the fuel gauge and fuel light inaccurate? I filled up like 10 liters and it nearly went half way. Car is on a flat surface.
FLIPFIRE! i see that too. and ive been reading around and we're not the only ones. i found that the first half of the tank i use lasts a lot longer than the second half. i got about 300kms the first half, then i drove about 230kms before the light jumped on.
my fuel indicator gives me the sh!ts sometimes, most of the time when fuel light comes on i still have like 7 - 8L left in the tank, and it indicates that i've only used 7L/100km hence it should theoretically go until 600kms.. I honestly just look at the KMs i travel and what conditions i've been driving in to estimate how much is left in the tank.
