Hi,
I've been challenged to a drag race with a work mate at (WISD), this is a must win(bragging rights) for me because we have both talked alot of smack.
I have a 02 integra Gsi (317000Kms) and he has a 07 Mazda sp23 (70000Kms) both auto tiptronic and standard.
What can I do to win this race???
Is there any little tricks or mods I can do without spending heaps of money???
I have seen cheap chips on ebay that claim 20-60hp are these thing for real or what??

If your cars a DC4 Auto, you're going to get pwned.
If it's a DC5 base model or something, (cause you said '02) It might be a bit closer but still the SP23's a sports car as opposed to a stock luxury car so it'll be pretty hard.
still I dunno if this is the best website to ask about traffic light (street) drags...

Dude, don't talk smack to anyone, even if they drive a piece of crap, which an SP23 is not. They're good cars, I've never even heard of an 02 GSI.. I thought all base model DC5's came with V-tec?

The SP23 produces 115kW. The standard DC5 produces 118kW. Both at 6500rpm. This is a drivers race IMO (assuming your car is in good condition with that many KMs on it I hope you've been looking after it!). I don't know why the other guys are saying he's going to walk all over you. It will be close... If he had an MPS it would be a different story.

Really? I've seen quiet a few 'new' cars with 200,000+ on them already. That includes a few 300,000+ aswell. But it's true, a massive number to rack up in such a relatively short period of time

my gf's whose is a daily and she dries me everywhere is 155k and its 2005 model. we live about 30-40km away too!
I bought the car brand new now it's got 317254km's on a "02" dc5 integra that's right,
I live in wollongong and work in Sydney
meh, I hope u go through RNP to and from work ... only good reason to live in the gong and work in sydney.

So far no one has suggested anything that will help me I was thinking taking back seats out maybe passagener seat,taking out spare tyre,taking rear muffler off getting my injectors cleaned new fuel pump,taking out air filter,maybe run some fuel addertive
lol... you answerd the questions yourself pretty much?
do all that, dont use fuel additive its waste of money. by a better pod filter or something. theres carbon intakes here with pod filter for 50bux on forsale section.
use 40psi on rear tyres, if your really going to a strip have around 20-25psi on front tyres.
if you want to go through the trouble of taking ur exhaust out and all then do it.
buy a ferrari
buy some semi slicks for the front wheels, run the ideal tyre pressure for a run, and strip out ur car lol
tell your friend that he should shift at 2k rpm for ultimate use of the SP23 engine, then you will smoke him.

My pops got a SP23 tiptronic and my missus got a sp23 manual, I've driven both hard, the manual sp23 obviously better than the tiptronic one, the tiptronic one lags when you're shifting at redline into the next gear for like a second. The manual sp23 gives b16 egs a good go, just for comparison.

Get your car serviced. Upgrading your injectors/spark plugs etc are a good idea. Every little bit counts
Make sure you run a good oil. Thinner = more power (within recommended range) however with that many KM's make sure you use a good oil
Also, if you're running big rims consider smaller ones. If you want to spend some money, light weight rims, a full exhaust system and CAI will make sure you have the edge.
Lastly, with the higher PSI for the tires, make sure you keep checking the pressure between races. It will increase throughout each pass (due to heat),

Is your car a manual ? A auto sp23 is nugget my mate had one when I first had my gsi and he couldn't take

I pretty sure both cars are auto. Also to the thread starter, I reckon you should both go and spend your money wiser cause, all this effort in going to WSID with these car may not be as interesting as talking about it. Can I suggest you govto your nearest Timezone, get a $20 powercard and go race in a racing game and play best of 10 races maybe. You may enjoy it more.
But if you still wanna go racing, money or no money at least change fluids (engine/ gbox) if needed and take out all unnecessary weight from inside. Make sure he does the same, cause if you end up beating him. He may complain about your unfair weight saving advantage and there will be another post about that!

its auto so i doubt he will have traction issues off the line. most you could do is have the handbrake up as high as it can go.

If i was you and i already talked the guy up you might aswell at this point slap on some sort of I/H/E combination then as everyones mentioned do some weight reduction and all the usual tire pressure stuff and give the guy a go SP23 aren't guns so it should be close, let us know what happens lololol
lots of smacktalk in this thread... look, some people have given you good advice here... if you are really keen the best thing you can do is get your drivetrain running the best it can, and strip out as much unnecessary weight as possible... so give your car a service with fresh oil, new plugs, clean your throttle body out and your air filter... remove your air filter but be mindful that you have some sort of cold air intake... otherwise its pointless...
