Hey guys,
I have a friend who is selling some Koni Yellow shocks and some Eibach springs for $700 . I think thats a fairly good price but Im a bit concerned. There 9 months old. I was just wondering when i go look at them, is there something I should look for, signs of wearing or abuse? Also what is the longitivity of this setup. I mean do these things last years or months.
Bit of a newbie when it comes to this stuff and don't wanna get ripped. Is $700 a good price?

I guess it all depends on how hard they were used. New you are looking the $800 and springs add on top, so personally sounds a bit steep for me. If your car is lowered then you might not need his springs and if you don't want your car that low the shocks are adjustable in height and you can use your stock springs.Quote:

the service manuals say to test shocks by sticking them on a bit of wood or something and leaning down on them to compress them. See if it has even, smooth travel all the way. Check for fluid leaking from the shocks. Check the bump stop which is a piece of foamy stuff that stops the shock hitting metal on metal. See if there are signs of this being compressed. You'll need to take the springs off to test all this though. Which is the biggest pain in the ass of the whole thing. So it's up to you. They should still be in fine condition after 9 months of proper use I should think.
Not too sure what to check for in springs. Just see if they have any chips or anything maybe.
Not cheap for shock and spring. 2nd coilover is looking around $800. y don 't buy 2nd coilover??

Think about coilover. You can adjust the height what you want. This is my opinion!!
if i m to fork out $700 for sth ... i wouldnt mind to pay a bit more for much more quality stuff.. just htat i wont regret later on ... ie. coils...
i rather save up a bit more to get a set of new coils...

new for , the koni yellows + eibach prokit springs ( the items u have pictured) is around the $1400 all up.
So , second hand , i think $700 is resonable . Remember , koni shocks can be rebuilt/revalved unlike most other shocks.
As long as you know the history of the shocks , you can tell how they will be.
Recently, i purchased 2nd hand koni yellows + new eibach springs for a similar price.
Personally , i would not purchse coilovers - espeically 2nd hand coilovers. They are often imported from japan / HK / taiwan / malay etc , and often in pretty bad condition and have very little life left, AND often are not rebuildable. IF they can be fixed - you are looking at $$$$$.

I used Koni shock before. After i change coilover, i know what's the difference between koni shock and coilover from japan. If you don't try coilover from Japan, you never know what's benefit you get.
Do you think there is a big differnt between australia's road and Japan's road?? No point to me. You are driving Japan's car. Why don't you use Japan's suspenion?? most of people use Japan's tyres. Why??

The bad thing about coilovers , apart from price is that they are not practical at all.
I was in the same boat. I decided to buy coilovers for a big sum... Just because you can adjust the height to your fancy. Problem is they still haven't arrived yet :S
im not saying japans brands are bad, im saying the setup with the coilovers (that are imported from japan) are not suited for australian roads.
btw i have koni adjustables for my car if it makes you happy :)
Hmmm ok . Well im gonna go have a look on thursday. Ill look for any signs of damage and will maybe buy them. If all else fails ill brake his neck and take his suspention if it fails. :D
Are Eibach springs THAT expensive?
I thought koni yellow's were only about $220 each.. $900. so that means $500 for a set of springs?
Koni's are great though if most of your driving will be on the road..
*concurs with benjammin and joyride* $700 for an as new 9 mth old Koni/Eibach package is pretty decent. $650 mates rates perhaps? :)
Yeah Dave, Eibach's retail for approx $400-500. They're German quality, and I'm pretty happy with them. :)
The pricing for Koni Yellows differ from place to place I suppose.
$650 is a reasonable price for the 2nd shock and springs. In my opinion, you can ask your friends who has already installed coilover. Ask him about the handling of coilover. Nowaday, coilover is a very common mods. Nothing special. Why i love honda?? I love the handling. Good luck!!
Got qouted $575 for Eibach and $1040 for Konis. These are average retail prices.
Like what ben, joyride and jon has already said.. $700 is decent price. 9 months use is not bad. Checking them? well thats kind of hard if you cant compress the shocks to check for leakages. Just check the overall exterior of the shock housing. Check for any chips, cracks, scratches on the actual piston... if there are then it can leak over time. But the good thing about koni which has already been said.. its rebuildable. Koni and eibach setup are quite popular, just ask the fellow OH members. coilovers are cool cause u can adjust the height etc. but you need to make sure they are adjusted evenly all round otherwise you will screw up the handling and what not. Also the springs used on coilovers are stiff. Getting coilovers and changing over to a softer spring is possible however the shocks were design with the springs it came with so whats the point of doing that... Id stick to a custom setup.. research and ask questions on diff. types of setup.. there are people out there with diff. setup so just ask around and see what they have to say about handling and ride comfort etc.

I got a set of 2nd hand Tein HR coilover from HK:D .......so far runs perfectly....."coilover from HK and Taiwan is shit and short life" i think is bull shit....if u prepare to spend $ on coilover i guess u would have at least some knowledge about it b4 u to choose one......if not....better to stay with lowering spring.....and Japan is an interesting country....good stuff never ship overseas.....Tein coilover get a really good balance of performance and comfort....once u try u will know.:D
