I just got off the phone from the Honda service department, and they want $1200 to fit my ORC clutch! Are they for real? Is that normal? What have other people paid for their clutch installs in the past? I'm not too keen on a DIY unless I really have to. I called Honda because I've heard changing the clutch on a DC5R is complicated and want to take it to someone who know what they're doing instead of just a random mechanic.
Any help would be great.

Sound abit expensive but this is also the reason people do flywheel and final drive generally at the same time Nuci
$500 ~ take about 5-6 hrs
Well yeah the ORC kit comes with a light flywheel so I'm doing that too, don't think I'll ever end up changing the final drive. But I paid like $550 to change the clutch in my old b16a crx so why is it twice as much for a DC5R?

Well I've heard it's complicated and figured they would know exactly what they were doing and it wouldn't take as long. I knew they might be a bit more expensive but twice the price is an absolute joke.

There's plenty of good mechs in syd. Dealers man use apprentices I wouldnt let them touch my car
I'm in Brisbane. And I've heard that some mechanics will quote like 350-400 not knowing the work involved and then **** you over once they realise it takes longer than they thought
a good mechanic can do the job between 4-6 hours..
labour costs for mechanic is between 60-100 per hour
at worst you should be paying $600 + fluids
anything above that is way too much.
changing a clutch is pretty standard, its just a long process - as long as you got the right part and they got a clue then it shouldnt be an issueQuote:

Haha jeez so much hatin'. All I did was ask them for a quote. And I was surprised at the difference in price between their quotes and the other quotes I got. That's all. Just chill. And the purpose of the upgrade is to make the car better, which is also obvious. I would assume that an Orc kit is better than the oem kit.

Typical clutch change is $500ish inc parts.
I would expect any shop could do the job in 3-4 hours.
Clutch changes are a fairly straight forward procedure.
I did one with a friend on a pulsar, neither of us had done one before took us about 8 hours to do.
So with two total amatures you could expect tops of $800ish. Ha ha.
Any mechanic can do a clutch change its simple and uninvolved, I wouldn't be picky about who does it.
Holy sht... What a joke... Clutch change for a CRX and a DC5 is just like a normal car. Nothing special. Get off your high horse. Lambo vs Integra is ridiculous... A DC5R is NOT an expensive car, and is an extremely sensible choice, price and maintenance wise when it comes to someone who wants a sensible but sporty car.Quote:

That is a tad expensive, but it is Honda... and they charge stupid money for basic servicing.
Give Centrax a call. I've had them do it for me in the past. They know what they are doing, and should be a fair bit cheaper (They are at Mt Gravatt though). After my weekend of pulling my DC5R apart, I wouldn't bother attempting this unless you are very confident with what you are doing, and have a service manual by your side the entire time... a hoist would also make things a lot easier.
