Hey all,
Thinking of getting a FN2R, is there anything in particular I should look out for when inspecting one?
Are there any known problems they have?
Besides the LSD and bluetooth is there much difference between an 07 to an 09 model?
Thanks!

Do you even google?
No.
What's the point of a forum if you can't ask questions?
Thanks :)
Never said you couldn't/weren't allowed to ask questions, no point getting defensive or jump to conclusions.
I purely asked a question, which was directly as to whether if you were aware of selected search functions that are available.
The links I provided above, may or may not directly relate to your question, but are going to provide the answers that you desire.
I wish you the best of luck in your future purchase.
Lol not upset bro hence the happy face...
Tried a search on here but came up with nothing.
Once again thanks for the links but still not 100% on which year model got what etc or if the lsd or bluetooth was a standard or option in the 09+ model.
Biggest differences when it was revised was the addition of the colour option of Championship White, they came standard with LSD, reverse sensors, foot well lights and rear view mirror dimming function.
Most of those things can be added as aftermarket options, but you may find minor tweaks of other parts that aren't noticed as easily.
Oh cool that makes it easier for me to be able to tell if it's an 09 model now.
I've seen a couple of 09 model ones on the net but when I typed their number plate into the RTA system they state that it's an 08 model. But I suppose I could just check the build date plate in the bay.
Also I read something on here that only the 09 models made after May or something came with the LSD, is there any truth in that? Is there a way to check if it has the LSD?
Cheers!!
go as later model as your willing to afford, generally the newer the better condition it will be.
although if u find an older one with LSD in decent condition it would be cheaper. or get one and install aftermarket LSD, so you dont have to worry.
EP3R over FN2R
.. top gear, Jeremy says it all :) .
I'm not getting a FN2 for the speed or cornering factor otherwise I would just keep my Evo if that were the case.
I've been in the JDM turbo scene for over 10yrs and can't jump into an Accord euro just yet so the FN2 is kind of my dialling down type of car (if that makes sense lol) and because it's newer.
It will be very hard to let the Evo go, might even shed a tear or two :(
Ahh, yes I went the full route, Jazz > AE111 > S14 > Euro, suprisingly the euro isn't a bad drive if you put it into sports ( wouldn't bother buying a manual euro ). although I have an eg for track duties.
With new cars there generally aren't many problems with it, I'd say do a vehicle history search to make sure it hasn't been written off, check panel gaps/paint, wear and tear, signs of rust and general service history.
Chances are you may be able to find an FN2R with extended warranty ~5 years as I did with my 2008/9 euro and I'm not flustered if anything goes wrong, would just take it straight back to the dealership.
look out for the Type R badge
its everything
Don't fully trust top gear man, the suspension might have been adjusted to suit Australian condition.
I test drove the fn2r, it's very nice to drive and doesn't feel too harsh and hard for the road, opposite to what Jeremy said on top gear. The fn2r just feel so much more updated than ep3r. Feel grow up an the interior is so much nicer over ep3r.
Just my 2c
Is it just me or is aftermarket support for the FN2R really crappy? I'm talking about anything from springs/suspension to exhaust to add on front lips/aero parts? Not talking about general universal parts but vehicle specific.
Type R badge adds 25kw
FN2R is properly one of the faster chassis out there using a k20z despite using a inferior mac strut at front and torsion beam axle at the rear + the weight of it. Im guessing when clarkson tested it back then it was the model without the lsd and the ep3r had lsd which isnt a fair fight. To be honest i think the k20z wise has more potential then the k20a i remember reading something about the k20z using has more restrictions in exhaust area due to it being a newer engine. If you watch one of the best motoring vids the FN2R if modded correct will keep up to fd2r that are tune to similar levels. The spoon fn2r was only few place behind the Spoon EK9 which we all know is the fastest k20 machine :D .
The ep3r is a great car but i wouldnt say the fn2r isnt comparable as you get a much better interior + smooth ride for lil lack in performance.
The fn2r owns my s2k cause it has 4 and i repeat it again "4" cup holders which makes me jelly as :C
If you can afford the 09 models get them as im sure it was then that they came with LSD standard and is much better car to drive
good luck mann
I was actually watching that Top Gear episode earlier and damn he really doesn't like the FN2R.
I also wonder who was driving the EP3R? Maybe Clarkson is not as good of a driver as driver skills counts for a lot... For a fairer comparison on the track they should've swapped cars for a 2nd lap to see how much difference there was again. But at the end of the day throw both stock cars on Australian roads with traffic and traffic lights and I doubt you would notice much difference at all if any.
if you talking about stock how quick stock Ep3 can it be? ep3 isnt like super quick lol,, even my EGh2b (old setup) spanked ep3 more than 2 car length on the road.. not even close to my car lol.. (i hope the owner isnt from ozhonda)
its entirely up to you, dont listen to somebody else opinion because sometime they could be give you wrong idea. IF you like the car, just buy it.. any car can qo quick if you know what you doing to it
i prefer FN2r over EP3r.
Something with more power and worthy of the type r badge IMO
Guys please I'm here to ask about the FN2R not to talk about how slow it is or how the EP3 is faster. "IF" I were worried about that I would keep my Evo as it would own the EP3 all day every day.
Thanks!
Yep. Top Gear then gave the FN2R the Hot Hatch of the Year award (with the Stig saying it was the best drive). If you're up for a read:

^ Shepparton, don't be a dickhead.
I did not start this EP3 is faster conversation. I mentioned the EP3 when I was talking about the Top gear review.
Also I never asked about the performance factor between the two as that is not a concern so I suggest you learn to read ;)
ep3r got bland dash controls.
like seriously.

its one of those things you "gotta get used to it" to "like" it.
^ Lol Tripper
I've noticed that they come with 2 different versions of the front and rear bumpers. Is it simply cosmetic or is there something special going on?
LOL this thread
OP:
Which FN2R? (speed not relevant because if it was would keep the EVO)
Stupid PPL:
EP3R is faster derp.
Short memory PPL:
Lets argue EP3 vs FN2
why dont we go back to the topic?
i am not aware any known issue with FN2r, its still relatively new car.
its a honda after all, takes a few more year to see some issue.
should always go for the revised FN2r for the LSD, dont stuff around installing aftermarket one as it costs a bit to install.
you really need to state what u gonna use the car for. if it is daily, definately FN2r, so nice to drive, i test drove it thru traffic hour and it is so easy to live with. might be because all my cars are harsh and noisy.
It's going to be a weekend car as I have a work car for weekdays.
My reasons for the FN2R is because it's newer (mainly interior concern) than my current car, less attention from the police (constantly looking over my shoulder) and is more driveway/ carpark friendly. I know I could bring my current car back to stock height but once it has been lowered plus additional lip/extensions all round it is too hard to go back, always got to move forward hey. Because of these reasons I tend to not drive my car as to many places so kind of defeats the purpose of a car. Plus I'm asian and have never owned a type R :P
Like I said above... updated interior, less police attention and can drive to more places without getting worried. I'm getting older now and want more creature comforts and less wrong attention. I don't only go cruising on the weekends, I still got to do normal activities so the Evo is less practical in that sense.
Don't see how an Evo attracts more attention unless you got phat wheels and its hell loud
What's going to stop you fron modding the FN2R or your next one?
Then you'll be back to the same problem...
^ I have my reasons but best if I keep it to myself.
should join fn2r.com.au if u want more info about the fn2r plus extras, small nit community.
I have a fn2r and its a great DD, that's if u can with stand the harshness of stock suspension :) if u cant, can always go coilovers and change the harshness.
Also if u are looking into modding the car, parts r expensive compared to dc2/ek, not many out there who are into the modification. I modified my fn2 according to what i thought it needed for my DD needs. I racked up 2.5k in mods already and not even finished yet.
Well.. thats my thoughts on the fn2r
^ Thanks bro. I'll be sure to check that forum out :)
FN2R - What to look for? A DC5R
the ep3 they tested is the ukdm one which m,eans no LSD so it IS fair.
when you guys compare this, you gotta remember which ep3 your talking about.
when referring to TOp Gear episodes, remember they were testing the UKDm version, 147kw k20a2 no LSD, no champ white, no factory HIDs, pretty much just a corolla sportivo with a Honda badge.
most ep3r in aus if not all have the 158kw JDM k20a, with LSD and shorter 4th, 5th and 6th gear ratios
On topic, if your mentality is "im getting old", none of the cars mentioned here apart form the euro is gonna suit your needs.
get an accord euro, make some babies enjoy the rest of your life.
gl with purchase
nah get an NSX, just kidding.
get what you want.
inb4 nsx vs fn2r vs ep3r
Do RVR's get lots of attention?
Get a Euro 'sport' lol?
Fn2r's are just crap
That's as far as the discussion should go
Daily or weekender
Why waste the money
I just bought an FN2R, go with what your budget is willing to buy, the newer the better and if LSD is what you want then get the 09+.
Just so you know alot of the FN2R on car sales that are on the lower prices scale are mostly written off, i know because i went and saw most of the cars and did the PPSR
Some tips:
1. Check if the dash rattles when driving ( bumps, humps etc )
2. Check the DIF when turning to hear if its making a noise
3. Check the wing mirrors and ensure they still fold
EDIT: post i looked at as well > http://www.civinfo.com/forum/type-r/...p-edition.html
Also if you care about mileage, on a full tank of 98, i get about 460-480 a tank before it starts beeping, and thats not highway KM's.
I think the point connor is making is that an LSD isn't worth forking out for for street use only
I spin my wheels on heavy take off with 410mm of tread to the road. Image having half the grip.
Powerful, light and FF needs a LSD.
LSD is a must if u plan to give it a little. And if you planing to drive slow, get a camry!
i was asking if it is worth it to have a LSD for street use car.
true.
just that i didnt have any LSD on my EG b18c before, and it was mainly used on the street, and i didnt have the need to put LSD in.
even after i turbo it, with good tyres and suspension set up, it was still fine without LSD on the street, then when i started tracking my EG, i realise i need LSD.
from my experience with the EG, might be its different to the FN2r, LSD wasnt needed on the street.
of course it would be nice to have LSD on the street, but it wasnt necessary if you know what i mean.
anywau, OP, get the newer model FN2r with LSd.
hes not asking what car to get, his asking what FN2R to get - newer or older.
if you can afford to lash out for a newer one then do so, but if you dont think you need an LSD and the other updates that came with it then save the cash and just get an older one.

obviously you dont have anything useful/relevant to add to this thread then.
Gee so much hate for the FN2R. Come on guys, each iterating of Type R has been controversial, with the same types of people telling potential EP3R buyers to get a DC2R instead as it's the more hardcore car.
Maybe the OP, and a lot of the population, aren't looking for the more hardcore car? Sorry guys but a lot of you are driving much cheaper cars and spending a bit of money on them. WORSE, you have never driven an FN2R however have made your mind up watching a entertainment show and a fat old dude bagging out the car (a company who then submitted their official review and gave it Hot Hatch of the year). Sure, the OP could buy an EP3R or DC2R, but he chooses not to because he wants a more modern, grown up car which still has a bit of go, but is still efficient, reliable and fun to drive.
The comments on this forum about the FN2R are indifferent to Falcadore drivers bagging our Japanese 4 banger sh!t. Grow up guys.
By the way I would like to note before I get flamed that I am not saying a cheaper car is necessarily a worse car. I am a huge fan of pretty much every Honda and have spent thousands on all my old Honda's. The FN2R would be my first 'modern' Honda and while I too was skeptical, I shut my mouth and test drove one before I put my deposit on an EP3R (yes, I was that close). I'm glad I did, because, in MY opinion, the FN2R is a much nicer car to be in with better steering feel, an awesome interior and an overall a much more grown up car. Yes, I will admit the EP3R did feel a bit perkier, but it was ultimately my decision (as is the OPs) to drive the FN2R over the other 'more hardcore' type Rs. It's a matter of choice as to what you want to drive. I can easily spend the same money (and more) and build an EG that will destroy pretty much every FN2R on the street but that's not what I'm looking for in a car. Good on you if you decide to do this.
A last note to all the kids - I am yet to meet a girl that loves the look of the EP3R, however heaps would agree the FN2R looks great. Immature note, however so is 95% of the comments on this thread.
By the way guys, the OP is coming from a car much faster than most of your cars. I think it's obvious he is not looking for a 'more hardcore' car.
*NOTE: I'm a huge Top Gear fan. I just don't take them too seriously and note to myself that most of what they do is for entertainment value.
^ well said, now i remember why i stopped posting here
i salute to this post

My gf thinks my ep3 is cute
Ive driven all the Type Rs platforms. Other than the FD2R. I found the dc2R to be the rawest. The Dc5R and EP3R to be best between sport and comfit. And the FN2R to be more luxury and comfit affiliated then sport. Yes it still has some go. But the feeling the others give you is no longer there. If i were to go for a newer car. personally id look at a golf R32 or Gold R! At least they continued in the right direction!
dunno
