OK, my tyres are hitting the wear indicators and I notice that the stock Michelins become noisy (that is started to rumble) as it wears out.
Anyone recommend a very quiet touring tyre I should be looking at getting? Im after comfort and silence rather that all out grip. I do heaps of km per year, nearly 30,000km last year.

Thanks I'll see how much they are today. Any other tyres I should be looking at? The original Michelins looks like its going to last about 50,000km but the noise is driving me nuts.
Michilan Primacy 3 ST are supposed to be really quiet too and competes with the Advan dB's (They're a replacement for both the sports orientated HP - (used on the stock luxury wheels) and the comfort based LC)
Yeah, I would go for the Advan DV V551. Yokohama's are known to be quieter than their competitor equiv, and that specific tyre model is designed to be quiet. I can't remember what the UTQG rating was exactly, but the treadwear rating was fairly high, and they are low RR tyres, so they should do 30000 km quite easily, even 50000 shouldn't be a stretch. I've got Conti CSC3 and I think they have either a 260 or 280 rating, and after 20 000 km, they still have over 70%. The Yoko's would be even better.
I have the Michelins HP Primacy and they were ok when you but as the tyres wear out they get louder and louder. Not sure what the difference is between the Primacy models thou.Quote:

My front tyres are wearing out too. Noisy as hell. I'm looking at Bridgestone RE050A from Kmart for $332 (Brisbane). I'm also after quietness and comfort. Does anyone know how this compares against Yoko DB?
Im not sure if the Michilan Primacy 3 ST comes in the 235-45-18 size but the Advan DB V551 does.
The Bridgestones RE050A are on special at the local Bob Jane Tmart for $265.00. This is what they were trying to flog to me when I ask for a price for the Advan DB.

Tirerack is good, but from memory, only if the tyres are worth over $250 each. So for extreme high performance tyres, ones that usually go for around $350-400 mark, they make for great value. For tyres that are usually under $200, shipping really kills it. I think last I checked, it was $170 freight for 4 tyres.
just got reply back from tirerack - it is $295USD to ship... It isn't worth it for the tyres less than $200. It's definitely worth for tyres worth over $300-400.00 . Also they can't export Bridgestone's tyres as they have a contract with tirerack which denies them from exporting to overseas for marketing reasons. That's too bad.
GOODYEAR EAGLE F1 Asymmetric 2 235/45/18 was quoted AU$319 ea by Goodyear and it is only US$165 on tirerack. I am waiting for shipping quote now.

It just happened to poor down rain for a little bit today but was very wet enough for me to test it out. Wet grip is also very good but i did manage to make VSC blink a little while doing some spirited cornering. This is due to not breaking in the tyres yet so i expect it to be a hell lot more grippy after first 1000kms done.
Overall - highly recommended and bang for buck tyres!

Never had P1 in any of my cars before so can't say. But my friend has M3 which has PZeros as oem and the m3 community has widely raved about these same tyres compared to the pzeros.Quote:

Euro has a sort of annoying size for tires as they are quite rare and almost always pay a slight premium. My Michelin HP were still meaty after 50000kms but they have completely dried up and was some stress cracks developing on the edges (although I do basically drive it like a race car). I had a set of Nankang NS2 put on for $160 fitted a corner which was a pretty decent deal, although if you can take advantage of the bridgestone deal 4 for 3, you'll have better quality tires.Quote:

yes that maybe but just saying 225 and 235 have little to none difference in traction, however 225's generally has lower weight rating so if going 225, must find ultra performance ones like ku36 with very hard side wall. Side wall does make a difference in cornering and protection of of the rim. If you can find 225 with 98Y-100 it should be perfectly fine and it is legal means it would not affect insurance imho. I wouldn't bother with Mich SS, overkill for Euro IMHO. And I've found Michilins to not age well.

Will replace 2 front tyres with the Hankook and then put my CU2 on carsales :-).

I haven't actually seen any other company outside of GoodYear (and Dunlop, which as far as I know are owned by the same company), do the buy 3 get one free offer. Especially not with Michelins. I haven't been too impressed by Michelins mind, I know the PSS is a great performance tyre, but bloody expensive. My experience with Michelins are with their Eco XM2 range, but they don't age well. After a few years, the sidewalls start to crack (and look crap), I've had one grow a bubble in the side wall, and the road noise is crap. Don't get me wrong, when they were new, they were fine. Nothing special, but not terrible either, but for a tyre that's advertised for it's extended range they don't handle aging well.Quote:

Of the ones there, outside of the Fed and GoodYear linked above, I would consider Kumho KU31 if you're on a tighter budget (went from Mich XM2 to Kumho KH18 and it's quieter and gripper, albeit the Mich were old, but still has given me a good impression on Kumho; KU36 are very popular for people who go to the track as well). I would AVOID Conti, I have Continental Sport Contact 3 on my car, changed over from the Dunlops that came as OEM on the car, and they are LOUD. Perhaps the CSC5 would be an improvement, but I can't see it being much. RE050A are a decent choice, but they've been on the market for ages, and have a fairly low wear rating.
EDIT: Also note that you may have to get tyres to a higher load rating to comply with insurance. I'm not sure what they are for the CU2 though.
Tyres are tyres just get the cheapest of the common reputed range (bridge/kumho/hankook) and stick with correct load rating and size/aspect ratio etc.
It's not a car with 400nm of torque or with 300kw so most of the time you will never exceed the limits of the tyres designed for road use unless you do stupid things.
You couldn't be more wrong. I went with Continental Sport Contact 3, and I hate them, so damn loud. And will have to live with them for another 20 000km at least. There's a lot more to tyres than just grip, just like there's a lot more to cars than power. A little research doesn't hurt.Quote:

Friend's BMW 5 series has the same continental conticontact (n) and is absolutely quiet. But ofcourse it has higher profile of 50 or 55. (though could be better built car in insulating noise).
I would pick tyres that is more focused on comfort ride rather than performance if you care about noise so much and also common sense in just looking at the aggressiveness of the tyre treads.
I got the hankook v12 - it still has a little bit of noise but i think it's as quiet as it gets with that profile before lowering standards on performance/grip. Hence why i suggested just get the cheapest of any reputable brands, which is usually focused on comfort rather than performance.
It would be dependent on the car, but I'm talking about on the same car, the CSC3 are louder, by a fair margin. And the tread design is far from the most aggressive I've seen, only about half way. And cheaper tyres don't mean more comfortable/quiet. E.g. Yokohama have the BluEarth as their cheapest, then the C.Drive then the V551 dB. They go quieter with each step, but then the price goes up as well. Even with Bridgestone, they differentiate between their budget and premium alongside performance and comfort. I think the trinity for tyres was Performance/Comfort/Price, where you can choose 2 of the 3.

Am using Advan RS 18x8 +45 with 225/40R18 tires on my Euro. Thinking of changing to PS3. Will any of these 3 sizes be an issue of rubbing the fender? I do not want to fender roll. Thanks.
