if u wan value for money - id dropa 5 speed tranny in and turbo it!
but if ur afta true NA power...drop the jdm motor in ther n change it to a 6 speed!

I agree, sell it and try and find a JDM DC5R - definitely not easy but would be a LOT less troublesome and probably cheaper than trying to convert your current car.
it was pressie from mum and dad.... kinda, like they would have fun wiht the car for a few years then give it to me, hence the auto tranny.
Isnt it hard to find a JDM ITR, ive only heard of one actual jdm ITr here.

I'm not a big fan of engine transplants.... for the amount you spend and difficulty (not to mention insurance and resale) I'd think about buying a different car honestly..... either JDM DC5R and mod that or go for a different turbo car (!!).... my 2 cents

the k20a is what a siz speed and i-vtec ?? thats it right
u want to make most of ur auto right?? then do this
slap in a decent turbo kit and get the person doing your turbo so change your standard toque converter to a high stall converter (which acts similar to a quickshift)
so your gears dont lag wen changing and you wouldnt hav a problem keeping up since you got no lag between gears ...
and if your car has a step tronic (not sure if it does) well if it does then that high stall converter will cause your car to "pop" between gears if you know what that means ...
trust me and keep the auto save the money and hassle and keep your gearbox and engine and build it from there.
Nah dont do that. Thats for drag racing. Go get a JDM DC5R ull ove it its way better than auto and a mad track car all done then u dont need to touch it, all mods done.
this is ridiculous. sell it and get the AUDM Type R. see how you go with that first. it's not just the engine thats different.

some of these suggestions are so funny. i agree with thanh. do some research. try clubrsx. u'll find that there is a world of difference between the audm dc5r and audm dc5 base. then u'll find that there's a short list of differences between the jdm dc5r and audm dc5r. it's not just the engine and gearbox by any means.
u will regret modding your base everytime u go to a meet and see a type r.
getting a jdm dc5r in australia is near impossible unless u want to fork out big dollars. i only know of one as well and i think its the same one. secondly, i think he was considering selling it sometime ago but the price he wanted was beyond the brand new price of a audm dc5r.
my suggestion would be the same as thanh's. sell ur ride, get an audm dc5r. then after that u can do whatever u want. the audm dc5r is a good starting point for modifications. the audm dc5 base auto is not IMO.
on another note, spite from clubrsx was offering to bring home a jdm dc5r for anyone who wanted one from the uk as a personal import. so there's an option.
Bah, if it was me hate to say i would sell it and buy a dc5r before the lil whores come out and say it aint a jdm no shit. But ur gonna stick a jdm dc5r engine in, when it comes down to selling it and the possible problems that could a rise when doing the implant if its not done right could be expensive. Is it worth it really?

what's all the hype with boosting it?
if you really want a turbocharged car, buy one that comes from the factory turbocharged. no further complications with insurance, resale, defects etc. not to mention reliability, running costs, sourcing parts in the event of an accident.. the list goes on.
if you go with an AUDM DC5R, not that many modifications are needed to be on par with the JDM model. if you're going to go all out and replace a lot of the bits and pieces here and there, there wont be much difference at the end of the day between the 2.
sure its different, but is it really worth it? i think even after boosting the base, it will probably just keep up with a type R if you dont go modify it further in order to run higher boost. then you'd just look like a fool that's wasted all this money, to achieve... not much.
ive gotthe base auto as well, and with a few suspension mods, its a very competent car. but then again.. i dont live my life a quater mile at a time.
waste that hard earned cash on something else.

just buy a K20A-2 head and do the head transplant if you wanna cheap on it. as for the Gbox, get a 5 speed, you can always make it a 6spd late without changing the outer case.

I'm unsure what a K20A-2 goes for in AUS but in NZ they are about 6-8k NZ for the front cut of a NZDM DC5 and about another 2k for a JDM. A K24 is a good option being they are cheap as anything, although if you can get one from a CRV as they have alot less hassle doing the K20A head transplants than the Accord motor.
Value for money the K24 with a K20 head is the cheapest option you probably wouldnt break 5k AUS in buying all the bits you need, although the labour side if you didnt know what you where doing would soon mount up. the average K24A2 hybrid makes about 200-220whp with 160-200ftlbs on stock K20A cams.
I heard Crower have released cams for the Base motors but I am unsure if its true or not, I will ask Brian Crower next time I talk to him. The turbo option is a good one aswell but when you way up the cost it will be much the same as a conversion anyway. the power you get will be less reliable and you wont be able to push it as hard as an N/A K20A motor anyway.
As for the N/A support for the K20A motor if you intend to spend money on cams etc buy a K20A-2 since everything is designed for them not the K20A and there are differences that will make engine modification difficult if you don't have a very good mechanic
i've only ever seen 2 jdm DC5R...
first one was advertised on firesport awhile back with the cf hood and mugen kit...
2nd one was on clubrsx.com guy got it off an indo guy who sold it cheap...
best idea yet... sell your car and wait for an indo guy to go back to indonesia and offer him 20k for his DC5R...

umm well u mentioned it was a pressie from your parents.. just to be different i would say dont sell it because it seems tight to sell something your parents gave you. even though the base model DC5 is not really a car u should even attempt modding especially since its auto.. if you really wanna spend money on it just do a rice airfilter and STOP THERE =P.. no seriosly it wouldent be worth trying to do a auto to manual conversion its troublesome time consuming and well DC5 base isent exactly a good place to start.

why dont you turbo your car and put the high stall converter in for $8000 and thats pretty good because thats talkin everything including pistons and exhaust and turbo , front mount shift kit manifold everything

wanting to do all these things on a auto DC5 i've been there and done that!! it's not worth it!!! Unless you plan on spending the rest of your 5 to 10 years working on this project....
MrThanh and I have both gone through the same thinking process...and we have come to the conclusion that we are to keep the car as it and then get something else later...much better, and a manual...
but...do whatever you like, it's your money and your car, your life...whatever you decide to go with, more power to you...but you are the one that has to live with it.
