And it cost me $250 inc installation on my civic for a fighter(??) big differences same guy
hey i was gonna get rhino, but decided not to i heard there shiet so id say go mongoose, but theres this guy selling rhino car alarms on ebay for pretty cheap and installing he charges 150 bucks in parra sydney
mongoose fo sure
i had a mongoose alarm in my last car.. about 200 bucks from lifestyle. Very good alarm, had a sensor for everything
Mongoose M series and Rhino RA? series alarms are both top quality. :)
Just check out the features and pricing and see what appeals the most.
Btw HRVBOY, your car looks a hell of a lot like Mark's (YSPOOL)! :)
I've never had expereince with both the mentioned alarms, but have used Repeller alarms, and I was very happy with them. it had motion thingy, auto window, panic etc. A bit expensive though.
hehe yeh man coz u kno why ?Quote:

Pretty good alarm, Id recommend it
fanx man,

i got Top Rhino alarm, plenty of function and programable.
Abit hard to understand at 1st, but you get it sooner or later, guess that the down side of it. beside that, top alarm.. long warrenty too

im not too sure if the rhinos can do this. there is a mongoose wholesaler at hornsby the no. is 9482 4444 speak to paul and he will help you out
flashpoint is pretty good as well, Ive had that in the teg for a little while, and i like it. The rhino(GTS model) i used to have in my crx i used to get the occasional false alarm when i was sleeping at 4 in the morning. But yea, other than that, they are both good alarms. I got my flashpoint one from lifestyle at parra as well, theyre pretty good, and dont butcher your car, I was watching them install
where from?Quote:

got my mongoose m80, with tilt, microwave install for 450 to 500. 3 point immoboliser, back up batt, black wiring, shock sensor....price is installed :D excellent alarm no problems so farQuote:

yep i got mongoose installed...is doin its job for me !
but jus dun go mongoose window lifters with their alarms aparently their touble...
Mongoose M60 series here. Paid $260 and watched (er.. helped) a mate put it in.
I am finding the shock sensor very sensitive, and possibly dependant on temperatue? During the day it seems to be adjusted perfectly, but often loud cars / bikes / sound systems set it off at night.
Apart from that, it has all the features, and is reputed to be a nice alarm. Insurance approved (or so I was told), which is apparently useful.
I've got a Black Widow in my civic and I would definitely recomend them.
Its got 2 stage shock sensor, doors/bonnet/hatch, 3 point imobiliser, ultrasonic sensors for the interior (senses glass breakage/anyone trying to force one of the doors/windows), all black wiring. Its very sensitive, shits itself everytime a stiff breeze blows past or I lock a fly inside.. :)
Was a bit pricey when it was installed (bout 2 1/2 yrs ago), bout $350 I think but well worth it.
it depends which model you're getting, 2pt imm are like $200-350 or so and the 3pt immobilisers are like $450+. My opinion is the rhino, there is one where when your alarm goes off it msgs you and you can immobilise your car with a message.
any one got that type of Rhino alarm which it will sms u and callin u when it goes off..
yeh pas, ive got a mongoose alarm system in mine as well, function wise awesome!
got it from the lifestyle store as well.
unfortunately, their install was less than impressive, had a few issues with the way they did my wiring etc, and the SRS light of all things!!!
regardless which brand you go with, thats not the first question you should be asking yourself or lets say the stores or members alike on forums.Quote:

the old story that the store only needs a masters is total bullsh!t !!! each and every installer fitting anything to do with security MUST be licensed to install alarms whether being car or home. if they're not, walk away...
now is mongoose or rhino still your question?
Throw em all off, get a Cilfford alarm from DEI! They'll go crazy with that wire harness! But damn I love installing them!
hey mate, i used to install car alarms, to be honest, i wouldnt go for an alarm someone or everyone has, jus the fact that once u learn how to install one alarm few times then ull memorise the rest all the same thing, even if you have black wireing.
cause all u gotta do is crack open the case and see which wires soilderd where, and u got the wires ur looking for.
my best advice i can give you is get an alarm that no one else has.
cheap good alarms are way to go, mines proven that its pretty reliable, no false alarms so far:P
but hey up to you at the end of the day.
I don't know about there, but here it has been proven that 90% of car thieves pass a car if they see the little flashing light. We did installs of a unit that started to flash a light the moment the ignition was turned off, cost: $29.99USD, install $20USD… Savings: A lot!
apprantly they are well known for problem by NRMA, everythimg you ring them up on alarm problem, the first question they ask is, " is it a Rhino?". I myself had cal up NRMA on 3 occations which my remote will not disarm the car, nuthin wrong with the battery but most often the alram confused it self.Quote:

Ben get a Mongoose M80G, get it installed by a professional, or do it yourself.
I'm sure you are capable of getting it in.
Go with Viper much better alarm
What makes viper so much better ?
Is it the lack of all black wiring ?
The non standard compliance to aussie standards, which insurance often requires ?
The unsafe remote start feature ?
The warning system which only works if your with ear shot of the car ?
The remote batteries that need to be replaced frequently ?
The single point of immobilisation ?
The non-battery back up siren ?
Or is it the huge price tag ?
yeah viper is all a big name.. way over priced compaired to the rest
i wont say what i have
but i am sure that if you get a good brand with good features you shouldnt go wrong
i just got a rhino rav2 insurance complied, plus piezo in cabin siren, dual microwave sensor, tilt sensor, and it has all the built in features like glass break, dual stage shock, 3pt immo..... all this fro 310 delivered from caraudiowarehouse.com.... (he made a bo bo on the price!) anyway its australian made in sydney and aparently its the same quality as the mongoose but like 30-50bux cheaper (without sensors) see how it goes once i install it.
Is it worth getting a 2 way tranceiver such as Viper 5000 alarm?
Apart from the downside that..
it doesn't have black wiring..:thumbdwn:
Batteries run out easily...:thumbdwn:
No Window Sensor...:thumbdwn:
Is there any other pros to choose a Mongoose over a Viper?
since we're talking about alarms and animals, i say stuff the above and go for DOBERMAN. They dont eat much and can bully people around if provoked, bonus is they're fast and have very large fangs :pQuote:

Another thing to think about when choosing an alarm system is if parts are readily available to you, the alarm companies themselves and do they comply with Australian standards.
Make sure you choose an alarm that is popular in your area and parts are easily accessible.
For example it's no good to you if you buy top-of-the range car alarm from china or USA because if you need an extra remote or extra part like faulty shock sensor or whatever you can get those things but how long will it take and how much??? Not cheap coming from across the globe. And if you need support it's going to be pretty hard to get.
Anothing thing is if you are looking for a professional install make sure you know who will be installing the alarm. Just because the person who spoke to you about getting an alarm installed will be the person installing the alarm. For example is going to a car alarm store and you speak to a person who you think knows what his talking about and then you choose to have it installed by him but then find out that an apprentice has been working on your car. Sometimes big franchise or companies do this.
Choose a car alarm that is most popular in your area (check your car alarm shops) for example Sydney would be mongoose and rhino. As these company has been in the game for years and years they will always be around, support is just a phone call away and parts will be easy to get as most car alarm stores in Sydney will know about these alarm meaning easy to get parts tech support wouldn't be hard.
Recommend mongoose as they comply to Australian standards, offer 3year min. warranty to 5 year warranty for top of line which company will offer these warranty as standard. This shows how confident and quality there alarms are did i mention reliability.
There alarms are also turbo timer compatible which means turbo cars with mongoose alarms can hook-up t/t and with engine running can arm the car without waiting for engine to turn off and no modifying crap to the alarm.
Hope this help in choosing your alarm.
Remember choose alarm if there easy accessible to you (parts, support), company background of alarm and reliability don't just choose alarms because it has fancy functions.
All mongoose and most car alarms can add on most optional extras such as central locking for keyless entry, window closures, ultrasonic and microwave sensors etc, etc.
yo! thought i'd revive this, looking to change my alarm to a mongoose one. what are peoples thoughts on theirs now that theyve used it for a while? any problems?
which models of the mongoose alarms do people recommend? how much are they roughly going for? cheers all
http://www.caraudiowarehouse.com.au/....php?cPath=133
Seem to have a great range and also do install at reasonable prices in Parramatta Sydney..
thanks mate, anyone have anything on the mongoose alarms or know of installers in melbourne?
Cyclops by Dynamco Australia make very reliable and good quality alarms. THey are also based in Perth and offer technical support to customers. 2 Years warranty standard when installed by there supplier.
All there alarms are Australian standard and they have alarms to suit any Insurance company standards aswell.
www.dynamco.com.au
i know cyclops are a very reliable alarm, with battery back up siren, a number of choices of additional sensors, (standard glass break), you can add microwave sensors, tilt sensors, shock (try and stay away from shock sensors as they are prone to going off at random times for no reasen eg loud exhaust, traffic, cats jumping on your bonnet at night!) Try not to add too many sensors tho keep it pretty simple, just do the microwave for movement and the standard glass break and of course all your bonnet boot and doors, and you should be safe. I'm an ex autobarn employee and have vast experiance with these alarms.... good choice.
P.S, the viper system is very expencive for what it is, the key fob is around $250 to replace if you break it and the stupid thing only has a range of around 250 meters, looks pretty shwanky tho
wat brand is m24 or m25??
they know who I am :)
I'm also looking at upgrading my alarm system.
Anyone has any more installer places in Melbourne to recommend?
Meanwhile, has anyone tried out any new alarm system?
Thanx!
see above :)
Anyone know of any Rhino dealers in Melbourne??
can anyone recommend somethin real basic? ie looking to spend $200 or less installed...
all i want is an alarm with central locking and goes off when the door/boot/bonnet opens... somethin real basic... the civic has an immobiliser already in the key i believe
nothing in that price is going to be worth the effort ... really..
It is cos at least you having something open the doors and the car has some sort of immoboliser.
PM STOCK, and he might be able to work something out for you
yeh i'll try LifeStyle audio - heard some good things about them here...
i'm in Sydney btw.
Bad thing just happened, for some unknown reason, the key barrel in my passenger door just sinked into the door and dissapeared.. hence i cannot open the passenger door to fix it...
SIMILAR thing happened to my friend's CxI... looks like another niggling issue with the civic
mongoose for sure, iv had the m80g before and atm i have am m20, and m80g although has a heap more of features theres not much diff.
i prefer the m20 easy to use alarm. plus the m80g has 30sec re-arm, which gets really annoying.
i got the m80g done from fairfield car radio, good work but pricey.
i got the m20 done else where alot cheaper with good work.
also the m20 is a much louder alarm.
That's nice for features, but in terms of ACTUAL security and system integrity? :)
---
Re: Rhino Dealers from earlier post, = Contact Rhino Head office.
yeh looks like the m20 is the go...
i'd like to also put in some other small deterrants such as a bonnet lock and kill switch...
^^ integrity ,, all based on the installer..
u can install a $2 china alarm with black wiring and it could be better than a mongoose..
i got a question about all these alarms... so once we installed them, is that mean we have to carry 2 remote around? i.e. civic has remote on their key already.... is it possible to program the alarm so that it will activate using original remote on the key?
i dont think you'll need the original remote anymore.
I've got a codealarm, and its really good, you can get them fully installed from JB for $400
Couldn't of said it better myself. I would go with Vision/Rhino/Mongoose expessially the new rhino alarm with built in GSM SMS communication. Much more reliable and useful than a traditional RF 2-Way system.
Viper have alot of wank factor features though, good if you don't care if your car is stolen but want auto-everything.
Although alot of it comes down to the installation. Positioning, Custom Kill Switches, How the steering covers etc are secured. You can have a very average alarm and still have a very secure car if you want to spend a few days on the installation. Also if you get it installed...don't expect it to protect anything. The majority of Auto Elec's don't care about your car's security, they rush the installation and don't worry about positioning. However, they need to make money for a living so you can't expect them too.
For eg. Why would anyone put the Alarms ECU under the dash, steering column or kick panel....that's where the theif is going to be tampering to begin with. Although I can understand its a simple position...it's a risky one. Also having the siren in direct sight in the bonnet at which point it can be tampered with in a matter of under 10 seconds...
Keep it Simple, Install it Hard. You've got time....They Don't ;)
mongoose arent too bad... pretty good actually, but Try the pythons though... from jb hifi... Top quality with a shit load of options.... done a few myself. Not bad.
FEI: Viper/Clifford/Python etc. etc. are all from the same base company...Directed Electronics Inc.? Similar with many other brands. They are groups rather than individual companies and product quality/design remains fairly consistant throughout...excluding the cheap made "independant" chinese ones off eBay.
I have found so many posts throughout the internet of Python vs. Viper (in terms of quality/design etc.)....its the same company...lol
Just thought i would mention it.
Edit: FEI = For Everyones Information
btw....for the people in sydney..just wondering where lifestyle is? sorry if i had miss any replies in here that had already answered my silly question
Its in their website, just quickly google lifestyle audio
All the brands named on here are pretty shit imo.
apart from Brant.
I'm not saying what I have.
please explain.
