hey guys,
my cars due for a service and im gonna change the spark plugs also and im just wondering whats the best spark plugs to use on my b16a2 delsol??
will the better spark plugs make a difference at all in any way??
also whats the best spark plugs available? and are racing spark plugs any different to standard spark plugs?

For your b16a2 engine untill it gets tuned.. .get NGK BKR6E-11, if you ever tune your car.... swap to NGK BKR7E-11 plugs... these are copper plugs they are the best plugs i have ever used. period. They make the most consistant power when "new" compaired to any other plug out there... just replace them more offen and you will be sweet.

I read that 'Champion Gold' were pretty good and they're cheap too. Difference, it's not like u put ur foot on the gas and, 'Whoa'.
champion are the shitest plugs in the world. might aswell but home brand sparkies if u gonna use champions
Try NGK iridum Spark Plug + NGK power cable.......works well on Honda Engine:D
go copper if u want maximum conductivity...go non copper if u dont mind loosing some conductivity but prefer long life plugs/ ngk makes both types.
for performance and increase in response i'd say go for ngk iridiums they say it would last 50k but i would change it every 20-25. cost around 17 bucks each
for a good all round plug go for the ngk platinums, most manufactureurs use this on their cars now and they last a hec of a long time they say about 100k, tho again i would change it more often than that. about 19 bucks each
i currently have ngk iridiums on my b18b.
so can anyone explain the difference these expensive spark plugs will make as asked in the original post? or are we going by hearsay and brand names? Does the cost justify the performance?

raff, read the books i gave u (esp the sport and compact performance one)... im pretty sure it mentions something about spark plugs and spark plug wires etc.. i remember it saying something about changing to better wires will improve the flow through them, therefor improving performance, it also will make your engine bay look good :)
So i reckon you should upgrade that as well as spark plugs, dont think it would be too expensive and its an easy DIY job :)
i dont think it says much about what brand plugs are better etc.. but it mentions differences between types of plugs
compare what it says in the books to peoples responses on here n u should have no prob's dude :)

In My OPINION, the Champion's suck ass !!
when I bought my VTi it had the ORIGINAL circa 1994 NGK plugs in there.. had done almost 140,000kms.
I replaced them with Champion Gold and they were OK for about 1/2 a day (!!). I ended up swapping back the ORIGINAL plugs, I just simply cleaned and re-gapped them, then ran a 15.61" 1/4 mile.
With your B16, I say forget iridium and platinum crap unless you have too much $$ in your hands (in which case send some to me) as they are no better than OEM plugs.
as for lasting 'longer' with the platinum ones etc, that's a joke cause IMO a plug only 'lasts' as long as it is clean and maintains it's integrity in terms of spark. the platinum plugs might get fouled from a bung sensor or something in 1 daqy.. then for the rest of the 100,000kms you can keep driving with a subdued spark.
I say get the correct heat-range for your motor.. just call your honda dealer.. and get the recommended NGK's. as someone else said, they are just as good if not better, but you may need to replace them every 10,000kms.. which you would anyway if you a performance nut.
but Like I said, I've ran OEM NGK's that are like 10 years old, simple cleaned and re-gapped.
with regards to NGK BKR6E-11 plugs, when buying them do u just pop them straight in or is it better to re-gap them?
if re-gapped, what gapping size?
copper plugs are better imo
ok, kinda on the subject... what ignition leads would you's recommend? my mate prefers magnacoils (i think thats them)... what about NGK's? Eagle's?... etc

if you get the NGK, TRY and find the BKR6EN-11 the N means it uses a slightly larger electrode. They used to make them in the BKR7EN-11 but now only in the 6 (the first number is the temp rating) 6 being hotter running plug.
Standard copper plugs are good, but if your budget can go to the more expensive stuff you should give them a try.
Plantium Plugs are more expensive then Iridium so just forget the plantium ones.
get NGK Iridium BKR6EIX-11, they do improve the car performance a little.
There are also the option of Denso Iridium, Toyota uses them lol
and OWS Twin Iridium Plugs, never try them but u can get them I think at Repco.
Some new Honda, like Jazz on my friends car already had iridium plugs, I was surprise.

ngk normal plugs like $3.5 each from repco. Honda are easy to change just change plug every 40000km. feel a little more responsive.

I agree about the Champion Plugs they are "SNOT" i paid 17 clams for a set of 4 for my 1.6ltr and tossed them after about two weeks cause the plugs had fouled something shocking(electrodes broke down NEVER LOOK AT THEM GAIN! CHAMPION = LOSSER).
Went to local parts dude and got NGK-BCPR6EY-11 ( paid 2.50 a plug)car ran sweet once i reset the ECU.
The main part is the -11 number refers to the electrode point which has a V in it, that produces a wider spark in the combustion chamber which inturn ignites the fuel better.
Also the Iridium plugs were around 22 clams when i purchased my new NGK's and friends who do a lot of driving swear by them, in respect to the 100K, slight extra performance and fuel economy, not that any of the rev-heads on here would be concerned about fuel economy :-).
About leads which I thought of changing aswell, but first rang the Honda dealer for a price for OEM's, which he gave me then said why do you want to change them, as for all of my model engine's they had never, and he did stress never, replaced the original leads for my model car yet( they have been on for over 15 years)
The only honda leads that do need replacing was mainly on Legends around every 10 years give or take.
Also if you still are concerned about the leads get them tested

yeah champion arent that grat.. pls try and stay away from them u'll end up with little annoying problems..

also denso stuff is quality
to change the spark plug gap.. u gotta get a wire feeler gauge for it.. it's got little loops of wire each with different sizes.. 0.86mm 0.89mm etc etc..
and u pass these thru the spark plug tip it should be able to slide in with minimal obstruction..
it's got a little tab u can use to open the gap up a bit wider as well..
BKR6EN-11 - Highly recommended, affordable and performs well for everyday driving
BKR7EN-11 - Next on the heat range (colder) use for high speed driving i.e possibly racing...
The Iridiums perform well too, just much more dearer... I like the idea of having fresh new plugs each service plus the coppers are so much more cheaper...
As for the gap they are pre-gapped 1.1mm (hence 11)

I used NGK Id before. I am using OWS spark plug now. I feel OWS a bit better than NGK Id.

Finding the right heat range for the right application...
One of the primary purposes of the spark plug is to remove heat from the combustion chamber, it does so by transferring that heat to the engine head.
You dont want the plug too cold otherwise the the carbon deposits will remain and wont burn off over time and will foul the plug....
You dont want a plug too hot otherwise pre-ignition of fuel causing detonation
So the aim is to find the balance

i would prefer NGK Iridium plugs and replace them on every 40,000 Kms. for me thats 2 years. not bad to spend $80 on spark plugs after every 2 years.
I've used BERU spark plugs before, goes for like 11 dollars each and have no issues with them..
from where did you buy them?
are they UltraX?
THere is a reason why Honda use NGK from the get go.
I havent tried the copper ones, but ive had 3 different types of NGK's in my car, a 5, 6 and a 6-11, and i didnt really notice to much difference with them, i thought there may be a difference in starting the car, but the 5's work just as good as the 6's.

So on a 94 civic with D16y1, which NGK Iridium spark plugs should i get?
last night upgraded my spark plugs from NGK copper to Irridium, did i find any difference so far, huummmm
nothing much, dont know whether its worth paying for NGK Irridium. i paid $64 for 4 but in Autobarn they are selling same set of 4 for $88.
