J's Racing CF intake

I've just ordered a J's Racing Carbon Fibre intake off a Trader on these forums.

I noticed when I was under the bonnet of my EM1 yesterday that there is an air temperature sensor before the intake, it's actually located on the air intake pipe itself and looks like it's drilled into the pipe. I contacted the seller to make sure that the J's one had this functionality...apparently it doesn't!!

Has anyone got one of these intakes for an EK4/EM1 and has had to DRILL it out to put the sensor in!? I just paid top dollar for this intake....I *DON'T* want to drill it!!

Any help is appreciated.:confused:

i have this j's intake too for almost 2 years now and no probs with it

You don't have to put in the sensor? Wouldn't that offset some O2 readings though?

Little help? I KNOW this needs to be plugged in.

I've new been told that you *could* put it in the rubber between that joins the manifold and the intake pipe.

yeh i would go with that idea. try it without it and see

yup mate, basically i think the intake was designed for b16b for EK9. on that model, the sensor is where the intake manifold is or something, but for our cars, the sensor is where the intake is. On my old simota one, i actualyl Drilled a hole!! hehehe, but either way, i really do think the sensor should be placed to measure the temp, it is actually the "Intake Air Temp" sensor..

can't u just drill a hole and put the sensor in??

that's what i did with my pipe

prob just put it in the rubber join where the intake joins the manifold at least that would b the most accurate reading since it is the actual temp b4 going into the manifold.

oh yeah DONT DRILL A HOLE IN CARBON FIBRE its too good :p

Yeah, I am **DEFINATELY NOT** drilling a hole in 450 bucks worth of carbon fibre!!

I have been advised to put it in the rubber join by another forum as well. My question to that is, how exactly do you "keep it in" the rubber? How do you seal it off?

silicon?or if u wanna do it properly make the hole just a bit smaller then ur sensor then stuff it in there and seal it up.well thats wat i would do neways

Their is an EXACT copy of this intake for $150 U.S. at www.passwordjdm.com. It comes with the holes already and looks perfect. The carbon is a bit thicker so you cant see light through it, but I think this is the best, and will be selling my aem type-r cai for this very soon. I was told by the friend who just got it that he did lose top end power from this intake over the aem one we had. (it was a 3 inch.)

I've already ordered the J's, but thanks Illegal. I just wish I could find some pictures of people that have installed the sensor on an EK with this intake. It would make things a whole lot easier.

I'm super paranoid about this.

put a hole in the rubber join where you join the intake to the manifold. THat way it will be in a decent spot and you can always replace the rubber later. Maybe put some silicone on the spot to make sure the sensor doesn't fall out.

btw anyone know where i can get a copy one or a secondhand one cheap? i'd like to have a go at one also.

Personally I would drill the CF and install an appropriately sized grommet.

I drilled my plastic intake and put in a rubber grommet also. secured it with super glue as well. otherwise, maybe splice the sensor wires and extend it n place it where the rubber bit is i guess..

I wonder if it is possible to remove the silver pipe attachment from the current grommet on the intake and use that as the sensor hole?

I could always just put a breather filter on the valve cover....
