I am looking at doin an engine conversion in my EK1. And i'm tossing up between the 2. The thing is, my plan in the end is pretty much change everything in the engine anyway ie. cams, pistons etc... So when prices stand around 3.5k vs 6.5 give or take. Is it worth getting the Type R? Benifits i can see are... gearbox, final drive and lsd. Is there anything else to add to the list? Any difference in the block or head worth mentioning?

but if u want to do the swap.. dun forget abt brake and sussy upgrades.......well.. u gotta be able to stop
well if ur plannin to upgrade the internals, then u can get a b18c wit b16a head which will give u a lost in compression but u will gain it back if ur changing the internals and balancing everything . this will give u a poor mans type r engine.
why make a poor mans type r, when he can get a original stock type r..
stock is gonna be better (more reliable) than something u make up in a workshop..
Go with the Type r.
if your going to be changing everything anyway(upgraded rods sleeves pistons). Go the b18c and add a b16 head.
If you want something out of the box that stock and does the job go the type R
I would personally go the type R (I like stock). But if you’re going big budget go the b18c.
Just make sure you get the type R gearbox or aftermarket lower gears and LSD.
The B18CR engine is "hand-made" while the VTi-R B18C is not (from what I know)... So that would make the B18CR engine better, even if you change cams and stuff...

if u plannin to get B18c/b16a head u might as well get a b16a head/b20b block cost around the same, and plus if u plannin to do internals its around the same money spending.
or just get a b18c7, or b18cR and play wif it for a while
I kinda agree with you and if you can find a good mechanic in Bris, then get the vti-r engine and start building up everything, if not, stick to the type-r engine so less engine work needed to be doneQuote:

any wayz i was thinking about this the other day how fast would r civic eg etc .. go if it had r 13B rotor in it . how cools that u would b muching every thing i think
the cost to get a vtir engine up to par with a type r is going to outweigh the extra cost of just doing a type r swap in the first place.
then there is reliability to think about as well.
really, just look at the differences (cams, valve train, lightweight pistons, polished head, drivetrain etc.. and then tuning) and calculate the cost to do all this to a vtir engine

Also remember that the B18C5 Type R engine has been port polished from the factory. The internals are lightened, hardened, balanced and matched (rod to piston, and assemble to position on the crankshaft). Piston skirts are Moly coated too! Basically it is internal work done from the factory!
Plus, there are other stuff that is difficult to put in on a VTiR engine, such as oil cooler jets to the top of the piston.
