with recent fuel prices being the way they are, I was thinking of trying 95ron in my DC2R for a while and seeing how it goes as the recommended fuel is 'premium unleaded' which afaik is 95 and above.
does anyone here run their Type R on 95 on a regular basis?
if so how do u find it? ie. response, fuel economy ect.

It's prolly fine..... but I'll be sticking to 98 octane.
ive only had mine for a week and so far running it on 95, ive done about half a tank and done nearly 300k's, still goes pretty hard. doesnt seem to effect performance that much, but as i said ive never run it on 98!
98 all the way!!!! used to put in a bit of unleaded fuel and what i notice is top end power around 7000 rpm it pings, but i always use 98, i say if you can afford a R what's $1.25p/l??? hehaehahe
You'll probably notice slightly better economy out of 98 fuels anyway (btw, BP Ultimate ownz all other 98 ron petrol). Also, BP Ultimate (and the others) contain stuff to keep your engine clean aswell.
P.S. I have a DC2 VTi-R and I would only put 98 ron into it.
Think about it like this if your too tight on spending the extra cash.
The next time you go and have coffee with your friends just don't have anything, that'll make up the difference.
may i ask how did u manage close to 300km and still not 1/2 way through ur tank? or did u mean ur odo is close to 300km?Quote:

Anyway, I've noticed not all 98 rons are created equal. Before I got my thermostat fixed, I was doing about 100km/10ltrs on BP Ultimate. I tried Shell Optimax, and got about 70km/10ltrs.
I allways found my old crappy Lancer ran better on BP Ultimate than on Shell Optimax too (when you have a rough car like that, you figure out fast what is good and what isn't).
Now that my thermostat is fixed, I'm gonna try Shell Optimax again to compare the economy. Personaly I wouldn't put it in my engine, 'cept I'm curious. As far as I'm concerned Ferrari can keep their smelly petrol.
i thought that 400km per full tank (40 litres) was normal for an integra... if not, then what is?
i get 550 easy from baby driving and 450 - 500 from fanging it
BP ultimate. My car has 125k on the clock
i NEVER got 550 on a full tank in my R... 420 MAX... this was using optimax.
I was a leadfoot and the car had I/H/E and non-progammable ecu. 550 is massive.
Not babying my car at all, it's done 369kms on just under 3/4 a tank of petrol so far.
I'll have a better idea of it's economy once I've owned it for longer than a month. lol.

done 3 weeks of bp ultimate getting aruond 8.5L/100Km thats city driving
going to try mobil 8000 for the next 3 weeks, shell optimax next after that caltex
then (another other i missed?)
then ill try the 95 octane ones of each company... ill post the results when im done...

only reason id use 98oct in a car with stok ecu is to keep it clean, octane would make jack all difference to performance unless u had your ecu tuned to run 98 then ud have to use it all the time
On return from Melbourne after purchasing my car I was averaging about 4000rpm most of the way following my Dad in GT Liberty included a number of tandem 4-5 car at a time overtaking manouevers (read: not really babying it) with A/C on most of the way managed about 620ish, 650 definitely possible with lower rpm. Only run BP Ultimate 98ron. Subaru however did 850 easy with 60L tank and lower gearing helping too.

locote, your car should run slightly better with the higher ron petrol. It should also give you better economy.
stormridah, I'm also comparing BP Ultimate, Shell Optimax and Mobil Synergy. So we'll have 2 different stock VTi-Rs results to compare. That'll be good.
And guys, comparing how far you get on "a tank" isn't so great. Try figuring out how many ltrs it takes to go 100kms. It's much better to compare that, as some people call there tank empty when the light comes on, others say it's empty when the lights been on for a bit, others still say it's 'empty' at about 1/4 full (which is when I usualy fill her up).

Yea it does, not sure how many k's you still have left to travel tho but I've never ran the car till it clonks out. Sorry I didn't make it clear, I wouldn't literally run it that low, just for illustrative purposes. I imagine all the crap floating at the bottom of your tank would go through the pump, but pump should handle it I think, just ensure fuel filter is in good condition.:thumbsup:Quote:

Yeah it may help, clean airfilter will improve, make sure timing is right, fuel filter etc....
I'm guessing you guys will be lacking performance too. If your cars are running rich (and I don't see how else your economy would be that bad) then you're not gonna be getting the most out of your B18C.
Another full tank of BP Ultimate last night. ;) got 426kms from 33ltrs. 7.7ltrs/100kms anyone? And like I said, I don't baby it ('cept when it's cold). I did do a little country driving though up to my mothers place and back (about 160kms round trip, but not all of it was country).

after working at a Caltex service station for over a year now...many people coment on the advantages of vortex over BP Ultimate and the other premium 98 octane fuels. I do believe that vortex gives better milage and looks after the engine well.

I've noticed shell optimax is usually a bit cheaper and is still 98 octane, they only have the 2 levels 91 and 98. Does anyone know if there's a difference between the two?

Shells now have 3 levels: 91, 95, 98.
I reckon they all almost the same as to performance and mileage.
Just personal perference. I perfer Shells Optimax.
