Name the Exhaust part?

I have a Integra Gsi '94 and recently had it serviced cause the stock exhaust seemed much louder than it should be. I was told i had a hole in the top of the "middle muffler" and not the rear muffler, and decided that this was a good excuse to step up to something more sportier.

On looking around for the net for something new i have had no luck with the search "middle muffler". Is there a different name for the "middle muffler"? Honda told me it would cost around $770 for a genuine part and $335 for an aftermarket part. is their a big difference between the honda part and the after market part? And how would it cost to put in a decent sport exhaust system (cat-back?).

it is called a "resonator" or "hotdog".

You can get a "cat-back" system for about $200-600+ depending on locally made or a JDM part..

it just depends how much you want to spend.
cheap = aftermarket
money = original, brand

Does the cat-back system replace the middle AND rear muffler?

yep sure does
Catalytic converter or cat converter is near the front
the resonator or hotdog quitens down the exhaust
but cat back will give you one of theses

When u say quitens down the exhaust, does this make it sound stock or more sporty? i am after something cheap that gives off some noise :D . Is this what i want? or will i have to go for a full sport exhaust for some noise?

then what you're looking for is a cat-back with a sports muffler the resonator will quieten it down but you'll still hear the vroom :)

otherwise it will sound like a fart !!!

i suggest get a custom exhaust system that a bit thicker than the stock for better flow they are cheap aswell. around 300-400. thats what i have

resonator, 250 is cheapest ever seen, most are around 300 to 500 bucks, good brand like hks ,greddy....around 900 bucks

Thicker = Better flow.... :confused:

I use a Toda Header + JDM Cat + Vision Cat back.

The Vision Cat-back is much Thinner sidewalls, So it's less weight than stock.
Flow has to do with Pipe diameter & Bends...etc. Not thickness.

The resonator just lowers the exhust note, which makes it less offensive. So , YES. Just changing the resonator is the cheaper option. If it's just sound your after...
a. OEM Resonator - Stock tone again.
b. For aftermarket part = Could be much lower ( If it's bigger or thinner walled than stock)

Does anyone know what the inlet/outlet size is for the stock resonator (DC4)?

To just gain a lower exhaust note is it worth it to buy a cat back or just replace the resonator (for a budget)?

youre better off getting the cat back, not just for the noise but a bit of power too.

...Just Sound. Only have to do the Axle-Back. That's where all the sound difference come from.
I know, because I bolted on the Alxe-back part on the OEM system, while waiting for the Headers to show-up. Nice sound difference, that didn't change the sound much after the rest was updated. (Except on Vtec...WOW).

AXLE BACK - Changes sound....not much else.
CAT BACK - Possible power freed-up.
Full System - Definate power & responce upgrade. If done with the right parts (of course). :cool:

definately go with the aftermarket one... its heaps cheaper and it'll do the same job as the oem one.... plus no one will see it unless they do a full inspection
