Removable hardtop, option from Honda;)
$3000 option too ;)
And an overpriced option at that:)
Wow $3000 just for hardtop ..
Overpriced, but well worth it in my opinion. Larger rear window, rear demister, looks good:) And in Canberra, it's a must in winter;)
I got quoted over $4000 by honda, maybe the new 05 hardtops are different. But in my opinion, if I was willing to spend that much on a hardtop, id rather just get a Mugen carbon fibre one for around the same price if not cheaper.
I was under the impression Mugen is 5Gs....but then again...my memory's pretty scratchy atm :p
But I agree with ya Max. Pay a lil more to get sumfin more worthwhile. :)
where do u store the hardtop when u remove it ?
you fold it up and put it in the boot...
u know i'm kidding rite? :p it's a hardtop, not meant to be removed that often... if u had it on, ur only planning to take it off in ur garage...
what if it full starts pouring down when u drove it out topless?
i really don't see a point of these removable hardtop convertables..
waste of time and money...
It only takes like 6 seconds to put the top up or down, plus the cabin is water resistant, so you cant really sustain any damage to the interior from rain.
so you dont need to take off the soft top to fit the hardtop?
$3000 for a OEM hardtop? Where from? PM dealer number please.
I got quoted $6900 at a honda dealer
me too:( plus a 3 month wait....Quote:

Honda's RRP is $9000 for the hardtop option, is a special order and comes with the standard 3 year warranty. However, you can secure it for approximately $6500 - $6900 with some negotiation work. The hardtop weighs approximately 10KG added onwards.
Mugen has 2 options, the full-fibreglass or the full-carbon. Prices start from AUD$6000 or so for the fibreglass variant and close to AUD$9000 for the carbon variant. This does not include shipping/freight/customs clearance charges. All up, either will run you no where far from AUD$7500 ~ AUD$11000 not including finding someone to fit it for you. Unless Honda fits it for you, you're gonna expect to find problems lining it up properly.
So, the Honda OEM hardtop option is still much cheaper compared to either of the Mugen variant. Honda Australia does not sell you a hardtop stand like US/UK/Japan, so when the hardtop is removed, you'd simply need to find storage space. A rare sight to begin with, Honda sold less than 10 hardtops over the years from 99. All Honda hardtops are compatible and is the same throughout the years as well.
Official Weight-In Specifications
OEM Aluminium Hardtop / Glass Demister - 10 KG
Mugen 100% Fibreglass / Plexus No Demister - 10 KG
Mugen 100% Carbonfibre / Plexus No Demister - 7.5 KG
the softop basically is open then u put the hard top on
but the hardtop is too big for the boot
so if u got the hard top on and the sun comes out and its an awesome day then u're screwed
have to go home and take the thing off
i wouldn't get 1. theres a 2nd hand 1 for sale on www.quicksales.com.au for $1200 or something for those who are interested
its yellow in colour
Warranty? who cares about warranty, what can seriously happen to something that has no mechanical value at all? And as for regidity.....even without the hardtop it still just as rigid as with the hardtop. This is for the street, and what driver and what road can you go in order to feel that 5% extra rigidity of the "entire chassis"? Maybe on track you can.Quote:

As for prices from Mugen (shipping not included), are as follows:
Fiberglass = $3033AUS
Carbonfibre =$6530AUS
These prices are directly from Mugen website.
So I dont know where your numbers came from.
We simply hang our hardtop on the garage wall during the warmers months, and during winter it stays on the car. We don't drive our s2k that much there are other cars in the garage to drive on a daily basis. And we didn't pay anywhere near 6900 for ours new from Honda a couple of years ago;)
cant justifty a hardtop for that much money to be honest..
id rather pay a few less grand and get new roof with glass window :P
you still retain the softtop anyway do you not so you can always use that in the event of bad weather.Quote:

not a fan of the mooncraft HT :(
though there are Hardtops for sale on the honda car club (NSW) forums for those who are keen
yeah i guess its hardly practicle with little rear viewing space, but the profile of this top is second to none i reckon!! and it would definately look very interesting on the roads!
I think it would be really nice if it was clean, just one colour and no decals on it:) Would look very nice, how much is it? Id still preffer the Mugen Fiberglass one (just coz its affortable).
yeah the mugen one is nice....haha im sure mooncraft make one w/o the decals! haha although i dont know if its commercially avaliable anywhere, i dont think those guys in the US have gotten any yet...i think it was at hardtopguy.com ... they have a dry carbon wide body kit for the S2000, looks like something out of a video game! i think the retail on that was around 50,000 USD!...haha yeah...
True,Use mazda as a example, they optioned out hard tops for their MX5's...Quote:

Pretty sure they didn't, at least not in Australia. all soft tops for the S2K I'm pretty sure.

I know someone with a Mugen that wants an OEM ^^^?
I'll get him to shoot you a PM. I think he's coming round here this weekend to pick up my SSR's.
hey here are prices from jdm concept if it interests you..
OEM: http://jdmconcept.com.au/index.php?o...vid=42&cid=548
Mugen: http://jdmconcept.com.au/index.php?o...vid=42&cid=271
Spoon: http://jdmconcept.com.au/index.php?o...vid=42&cid=144
No selling for newcomers.
So I called into Peel Honda this morning to get a price and was quoted $5500 plus $800 for paint. Wow!
not a bad price total, however, i dont know what they are painting, as hardtops (OEM) come painted from factory...
get a second quote from another dealer to confirm this.
dam they are all very cheap prices. When I called honda they quoted me $7700.
Hey guys, anyone know a good place to get the hard top conversion kit from?
http://www.hardtopguy.com/store/home.php?cat=92
They have it for $600
I got my hands on a hard top, no kit no glass.
Sorry for the slow reply, havent had a computer for a few days.
Check this kit out. $250 or so for a full kit from an s2ki site sponsor:
http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/8318...-and-full-kits
thanks lude, i actually saw that post and thought it was to good to be true.
His got some good feedback with that kit. I know its not OEM but for $250 thats gotta be worth the try.
i read this review which praises it http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/8381...vis-vs-spyder/
might be bias but looks good.
^ Beats paying $900 for the kit I did from II2QU or whatever his name was.
Come to think of it, I have the latches from that kit if you want as I've swapped to the OEM hardware now.
Yours for $300 posted.
OEM Catches x 2
OEM Latches x 2
IIG2QU Rear latches x 2
IIG2QU Rear Catches x 2
Just need the seals then.
^^^^ oo sounds tempting. i havent actually bought the hard top yet. as im really still deciding if i want one and if its in my budget.
my roof does need replacing as the rear window is hard to see through when in rains!
