Hey people, i just blew my gearbox on my DC4 and i was just wondering if anyone on here would know of or have heard of anyone that has strengthened their box to handle the extra power that my engine is pumping thru it. Any help would be appreciated.

Nah don't transplant a box in mate, get yours re-built, depending on the severity of the damage you have done, should cost about $1700-2200 for a nicely built box that should handle 400-470hp quite easily. I got mine done in Adelaide for a little over $1600.
I was in your situation a while ago when i killed my box, at the time i wa considering boosting my car so i had the box beefed up a bit while it was out. A bit of overkill now that i've decided against it, but it is among the smoothest shifts i've felt!!
In your case i would also consider going auto with a gear set, they can take a lot more of a beating!!!!!!!!
the gearbox just went boom when i selected 2nd and now i got no gears. When i try selecting a gear the box just rattles like crazy inside.Quote:

yer but the gear ratios are all wrong for my application.
You should try to get a VtiR Integra or EK VtiR Civic box that would suit you alot better.Quote:

a manualised auto would be tuff but i do have 2 watch my funds a bit. Ive also checked the ratios on a vtir box and they have similar ratios to a type r box. Ive heard that you can strengthen the components inside the box by some sort of tensile strength treatment. Does anyone know of someone goin manualised auto in a b18 box?
and the reasons are? can you explain?Quote:

GSI PSI, didnt you ¨total¨ your DC4 turbo?
So you got another DC4 now?
I say get either a vtir box or itr box.
Im not a tech head mate, a few of my friends run liberty's wrx's and a few old school muscle cars, they all managed to chew threw any manual setup they could get their hands on, without spending in excess of $6000 odd dollars for an entry level pro box.Quote:

As far as Honda specific reasons go, im no expert, but i cant see even an itr box holding on a turbo setup, there is simply too much stress going through a box that was designed for a moderately horsepowered car.
Again, all things being said, i am no expert.
Can't really comapre it to other manufacturers bennyBear.
Online performance were running a stock 5 speed Prelude manual box in their 9 second car.
prelude box sounds good but obviously it doesnt fit my motor so where back 2 square 1. doh
no no what I meant was that stock boxes ARE strong.
yeh. get a nicer clutch. stop driving so hard. honda box's are strong.
depends how far you want to go, if you're a stripper then you could even go a dog box, a bitch to drive daily, but it takes a bit off your times as well.
i didnt turbocharge it to drive like a granny. I understand what ya all sayin but honestly honda integra boxes aint that strong. I blew 1 with my n/a gsi aswell.
Im with the guys that say honda boxes' are strong. I think i read in 'Zoom' that some guys running 10s use stock gearboxes.
i belive its driving style.
i doubled the power in my last car and the box held up fine!!!
i knew another bloke with same car as me he modded his car didnt quite get as much power as me but he went through 3 boxes.
WHat sort of clutch are you using GSI-PSI????
fine - don't believe us, lol!!!Quote:

PM me i might able to reffer you to someone that can halp you gsi psi
i have run faster times than GSI-PSI on a stock B16A gearbox.
maybe it IS his driving style?
my gearbox is puttin up with the 200+% increase in power in my car fine...
however, i do wanna look into changing or strenthening my stock gsi gearbox

I think that answers a lot of questions regarding your driving style then ;)Quote:

As BLKCRX (james) told me today over the fone, The weakest point would be the diff, so i will need 2 upgrade it with a lsd, secondly he has pointed out that i need stronger engine mounts to stop engine flex. This will stop axletramp and therefore take the stress off the gearbox. So thankyou to all you honda professionals, its not just the gearbox thats the problem, its also the parts in the driveline that cause gearboxes to break. And i wanna see the evidence of this so called 9sec car with a stock honda box. Seriously dont believe everything you hear cos some people do keep secrets. Thanx for the guys that are actually trying to help.
BUt we just giving you advice that your gearbox should be pretty strong and maybe that opened up the gate that something else was causing the premature wear.
As for a stock box on a 9 second car:
Let us know how you go!Quote:

Yes i drive the car hard and no i dont drive miss daisy. So yes i am PART of the problem, Not the complete problem like what most of u are saying. All im asking was advice on how to better the setup with my driving style. I would appreciate some help instead of petty insults.
We are here to help :)
Firstly what clutch do you have.....is it unsprung?
My clutch is a Xtreme Sprung centre cushion button. And yess changing gears like i do does not help with this strong clutch.
:D I'll just shoosh.Quote:

im sure we all dont mean to insult you GSI-PSI
and no one can tell you how you should drive your car.
but maybe a softer clutch might help you out.
instead of your box breaking the clutch will go and youll be up for a new clutch not new gears:)
