hey all,
i just came back from strathfield car radios and i was quoted the following:
an 800W pioneer amp
1 amp kit 8 GA streatwires
2 12" pioneer subbies
empty sub box to fit 2 subs
all up its gonna cost $866 including installation.
on the other hand another car radio place quoted me the alpine equivelent to all that stuff for $900. which one shud i go for??

Have you listened to either setup or something similar? They should sound quite different.
Any setup that puts 2x 12's in a generic (and usually undersized) sub box will sound pretty much the same in my opinion.. pretty crap.
Just out of curiosity 2002 TeGgY, what else does your system consist of and what are you hoping to get out of it (ie: SQ, SPL, numberplate rattler/doof system..etc). If possible get us some model numbers so we can give you a better idea...

i think the amp u r talkin about is the Pioneer (Premier) GM-7150M or the australian equivalent. i am currently runnin 1 of those with a pair of 12" boss subs (yes they r crap), but i seem 2 b gettin sum good sound from them.
i think the subs would b either the 305C or 306C, which both produce sum very good results when powered by the amp i mentioned.
i would however, recomend using 4g wiring over the 8, just 2 b safe.
the only problem i would have is captiva_blue mentioned is the box size. from wat i have read, the box that the 305C come with rnt optimum for them, although they do seem to work well with 1cuft enclosures

instead of getting 2 12" subs get 1 12" type R subs, its always better to have one higher end sub than 2 lower end subs

Thanx a lot dudes, last night i asked around and everyone who had their systems installed by WCR are very happy with their install. so im definately gonna go for the Alpine system. its gettin done on tues. ill tell yous how it went..

It depends what music your into and how loud/clear you like your music. If your after really hard techas/trance, pair of 8-10"s would prob be best, but if your gonna be pumping bassy songs on twin 8/10s id definatly go the single 12"er.

SO, to make these woofers sound tight, the secret is to make your MIDS and HIGHS mave lots of output just like your woofers do. Then the system makes the woofers SOUND TIGHT!....
Seriously take the TIGHTEST BASS SYSTEM you know and turn off all the amps but the bass amps and I thinkyou will agree with me the bass drivers alone SOUND MUDDY and NOT
TIGHT at alll.....
so basically what your sayin is that to have a nice system you should also have upgraded speakers and an amp for the speakers? if so, then is my system gonna turn out crap?? i only got the factory speakersQuote:

if ur gonna upgrade to subbies, ur more than likely goin to drown out any trebble or midbase produced from the stock speakers. ull just hear base. even the simplest of upgrades to splits or even coax upfront will provide a better difference

then i ask why are you bothering with adding a sub or 2 if your not changing your speakers first? do them first and then upgrade to a sub later, not point having bass if the other speakers are the weak link in your system, and im not being a smart ass im trying to get you to think for yourself rather than making a mistake the first time round. :)Quote:

hey all, i got the system installed yesterday. i went for the alpine set up, and it goes offf. yous were right about the subs drowning out the music, but wen i put the base down a bit, its not that bad. there is one funny problem though, when ever i turn my head lights on the amp and subs stop working. i already rebooked it again for them to fix, but they were pritty shoked and confused when i told them about the problem. can anyone please explain to me WTF is goin on????
yeah thats weird
usually the headlights 'bounce' when the system is up, coz of the amount of power being used by the amps... could just b sum faulty wiring

is it connected off the factory head unit? if so get them to connect the amp trigger to accessories, but hey THEY should already know that and dont need other PROFESSIONALS telling them how to do their job :D
also get them to check the ground on the amp, if thats crapola then it can also cause the amp to shut off. also pay them a little extra and get your ground wire from your battery upgraded too :)

strathfeild car radio's and lifestyle are not that good......delt with them before and yet i have to fix it up myself whn i get home no good......but than again i guess its all comes down to who you trust..........
as for the problem with the headlights.......i think there is a lose wire that is touching somehwere cause it shouldn't of happen
