Which exhaust for me?

Hi,

I've searched and read all exhaust threads on here, but most talk is about gains (which, for the 2kw @ flywheel I'm not interesting in)

I'm looking for a cat back exhaust (it'll be matched with an X-Force 4-1 header and modified cat, which at 2-3k RPM, isn't loud at all. At 4k I want it to sound nice (NOT a farty cannon noise though) - then anything above 5k I want it to go ****en mental.

As you've guessed she's my daily driver, so I want to make sure when I'm cruising to surfers on the M1 at 120KM @ 3500rpm, I can still have a nice conversion and listen to some tunes.

So far the Fujisubo Power Getter seems to be close from what I've read. Although I love the thought of the BC Spec 3 which apparently is the loudest? (but I'm scared at 3-4k it'll be too loud for me)

If you want a quiet exhaust then the Mugen twin loop is the way to go. Or why not complete your X-force set-up with the X-force twin-loop exhaust. It is a replica of the Mugen one but at a quater of the price.

You wouldn't want a BC spec3 it is fuken loud!!! I have the Apexi N1 and it is loud as hell, i believe the BC spec3 is even louder. But it is a real head turner, rev it to abt 4k and see ppl instantly stare your way :D and the sound of vtec is fuken crazy!! :D

No I dont want it quiet. I just don't want it too loud at low revs! I'd be more than happy to have it bearable at 3000, then anything above that I don't mind it if goes absolutely crazy.

I dont think I want twin loop as it'll be too quiet.

My mate a custom exhaust on his celica, but even at idle it's too loud, and any revs at all it's too much, impossible to have a conversation. If your in the back seat, forget about it!

In VTEC I want it to go absolutely mental, and I know my Injen CAI RD1450 I have coming will help, now I just need an exhaust to match :)

BC spec 2 is the loudest bolt on cat back system.

If you dont mind the nosie after 3k then almost any cannon exhaust will suit your needs. I have an Apexi N1 and it isn't that loud below 3k and at idle it has a lil rumble. But at a bout 4k+ it starts to get really loud..
I would assume most other cannon style cat-back exhaust is similar to this.

fujitsubo rm01a is quite quiet, but then so is the tanabe hyper medallion... if your after a canon look get the fujitsubo, cause the tanabe is just a huge chrome cannister that looks semi-stock (but hell shiny :D )

Is the Apexi N1 just a bolt on, branded cannon?

I'm still deciding if I'll get this guy in Brisbane who does custom mandrel bent exhausts to do it, or get a off the shelt product. Getting it custom gives me more options, and is half the price, but the exact note I will get after it is one unknown, which is why I'm curious.

not everyones taste, but then i dont like typical canon mufflers with the exception of the power getter (has a ridiculously long tip) and the spoon muffler (looks tiny)

FGK RM01A if you have the cash... even quieter than the Powergetter so I hear. Tanabe's larger size muffler setup should also prove quite well tamed noisewise.

Might wanna check out the Skunk2 reviews on Honda-Tech as well... Gingang is selling for a fantastic price.

As always the ugly Twin Loop muffler is also an option. :)

Go the fujisubo power getter...
From your description on the sound you want I would say power getter is what you need.
I got it on my car now and it's real nice..
When just cruising at speed the sound drops off, not completely, but doesn't attract attention... When you rev it you get all the sound you need..
On normal driving when you hit 3500rpm thats when the sound starts to get loud.. For some reason when I drive once I hit vtec I can only hear the engine and the exhaust sound is sort of a low rumble... Not too sure what it sound like from the outside though...

But yea, I think power getter would be the one your after..

Hey I'm looking for an exhaust system for my gsi and I have the same sort of requirments as Shebangs, I just wanted to ask is the x-force exaust with the twin-loop muffler a good choice for this? And how quiet is it? Would it be louder than stock because I don't want it that quiet.

i would recommend any fujitsubo or tanabe exhaust system, have heard a few and all seem to be what your looking for.

ur a f*cking numrod. put it simply and truthfully, ur not going to know which exhuast system / muffler is going to suit you best until u try everyone out there. on every different car, the sound is going to come out at different volumes and pitches. and then, even then, additions of silencers + resonators, + mods etc will change the note.

so REALLY, u dont know what ur asking, and overzealous mods deciding on what is read online are only narrowing down ur choices.

this is the very reason why 99% of online information is false. because mods swinging around their ban sticks decide what shold be read, and wat shouldnt. so there is only a certain amount of informaiton lying around. one mod chooses. another dumf*ck n00b reads it, and regurgitates out the next time someone asks the same question. and the cycle goes.

you won't know exactly what the exhuast will sound like unless you have it on your car

the thing is, most people won't know what exhuast you have anyway just be listening to it, os just get what you want

get a stock itr exhaust, ur comfort wont suffer and u can listen to ur tunes too...

MUGEN CAT BACK ? TWIN LOOP MUFFLER

or just get the muffler if you want it louder or quieter
just either run diffrent size resonator or no resonator at all

or you could just jump in every ones cars until you hear " THE ONE YOU WANT" and copy that exact setup...... then youll change your mind once its installed in your car

i recently got the HKS silent hp cat back installed which i love.
before that i had custom 2.5inch piping from cat back with no resonators which was just rediculously loud lol (was more of a joke than anything)... but the hks silent hp follows exactly the description acquired from the name... silent but gain in horsepower... feels so much more responsive than with the custom :)
when i say silent, its probably only 'slightly' louder than stock, which is exactly what i was after, cause i also do highway driving and didnt want anything that drones.
i was deciding between that and the fujitsubo power getter aswell :)

meh... this is quite a long thread when it comes to putting an exhaust on??

i think u should decide like this... decide on which one makes the more power, then the sound then the looks...

if ur just gettin an exhaust for the sound then ur quite silly... with power noise will always come.. they go hand in hand..

if ur willing to sacrifice a few measely stinking kilowatts for a bit of comefort i think ur a smart man... the FJK's are quite nice and stock looking and dun create too much noise with power increases...

i love free plugs

get the Fujisubo one.......i have it on my one........sound awesome not too loud but yet you can hear it!!!!very nice noise

Your kidding right? People get cat backs for power? lol. Yeh..that 1kw at flywheel was worth the $1000. Power gains from exhaust stops at the cat. Show me a car dynos on mugen headers and cat, with stock cat back, and with *any* brand name cat back, and I bet ya they'll be SFA difference.

If u are only gettin 1kw gain at the fly with headers and catback then uuummm.... sumthin is definately wrong with ur dyno and/or car...

When we dyno DC2 type-R's with our TODA 4-2-1 Headers and any standard Jap made catback we get 8-10kw's at the "wheels"... depending on wat intake's the cars have...

but anywayz wat do i know.... and uumm... we dun sell Fujitsubo.. i just thought they were quite good from experience..

No. Thats not what I said. Learn to read. I said cat back makes SFA. OBVIOUSLY headers make a massive difference.

Take your statement of TODO 4-2-1 on stock cat back, now put a $2000 mugen cat back, or $1000 fujistubo cat back .. and how much does that 8-10kw change? I'll let you say 'flywheel' so the number actually changes.

Ok my suggestion for you would be....

if you want it reasonably quiet down low and open up higher up on full throttle is probably this exhaust....

The ATS was developed as a high performance evolution to the standard tail pipe silencers available in the market today. While many people enjoy the power gains of a racing exhaust on the track, often times these systems require a silencer to be installed in the tip for use on the street. While sound output can be dramatically lowered using a non-adjustable silencer, unfortunately response and power tend to suffer due to increased exhaust gas restriction. Umm.....i guess if the tip is the same all you would have to do is make a hole if there isnt one already there to screw in the silencer......i have an apexi gt-spec exhaust myself and had to connect it up after i got defected and it lowered noise by about 8dbs......

anywayz... just trying to help from a workshops point of view.. why do ppl take these forums soo seriously... if ur asking questions here, its obvious u need help for sumthin... geez...

anywayz.. hope u find the exhaust that is right for u... good luck..

but a normal cat-back will definately give u more top end power as the standard exhaust is restictive due to the resonators.. much more free flowing around 6-8000 rpm... can feel the vtec more, especially in a vtir integra as it suffers from a bit of performance up top due to the intake manifold design...

I just put a powergetter on my DC5R and it sounds really nice, nice deepish burble from idle to around 4-5k and then gets louder after that. The best thing is that cruising on the highway at 110-120kph it isn't much louder than stock. And the sound of it is a really nice sound not a tin can one.... I would recommend it to anyone.

BC3's are rediculously loud even with a silencer and cruising on the highway will annoy the shit outta you if you dont like loud exhausts.

no canon ...
set u back about $350 with labour and sounds real good

jdmshit.com has reasonably looking cannons with gold welds and a burnt titanium tip for 75 us dollars

True you can put a silencer on the Apexi N1 but the sound the exhaust makes with the silencer on is just crap. It is a lot quieter but the exhaust note sounds like a pee wee, I know bcoz i have one. If you want a quiet exhaust just stay away from canon style mufflers.
