Which fuel best for Jazz

2005"i just got the jazz vtis CVT not too long been trying every type of fuel see which one feels better and last longer"

From what i have tested with what they call high performance fuel...

Most Km per tank avr:
Mobil Synergy 8000

Most power and responsive (VTec Kicks in very easy also only did around 430km with a full tank of fuel):
CALTEX Vortex 98

(Most mid range power fuel:
Shell Optimax Extreme

The new Shell Optimax Extreme made the engine a bit louder but not as responsive on take off can starts to feel the difference around 60-70km/h

The old 98ron optimax was not too responsive too and couldn't do too many km)old data

i would say everyday use would be Mobil Synergy 8000 because can feels the power and also good for the pocket with the highest km/tank out of all the fuel types.

Update 2007:
Most people like:
1st BP Ultimate (But is not everywhere)
Mobil Synergy 8000 comes up 2nd
But most say Shell gives more Km for your $.

But i Still like Vortex98 can feel the Rev and power difference

Shell V'power ??
Shell V'Power Racing??
Anyone Used it in a Jazz?
i am useing V'power for the 1st time and i think it Suck... (filled up at Westryde Shell) not so good. no Power feel no rev feel should have just use normal fuel would have same feel.:(

BP Ultimate i only try once with my jazz beacuse there is not much BP around my area with Ultimate but i think is better then optimax...

from my experience.. bp ultimate gives more mileage and more responsive... optimax is really unstable.. sometimes i get really low mileage sometimes a lot... caltex makes my car slow but it "sounds" really clean from research haha.. i love bp ultimate.. but lately all bp stations ran out of ultimate.. does anybody know the reason??

i tried mobile once.. and the car for sure runs better but really low milege

ps: my experiences came from my jazz vtis manual + EP civic automatic + accord euro automatic.. so i really think bp is the best out of all.. though i really wonder y it's not available in these few weeks.

They used to have it in Canberra...at the pump!!!

Don't know if it's still around though...I last saw it about 7 years ago now

Running with bp ultimate 600km daily driving.. other fuel 500 or less.

optimax has additives to put it up to 98RON

optimax is not pure 98RON, just likst redliner said, additives are added to make it to 98ron

i always use Ultimate

Optimax Extreme is stupid, the power gain is hardly noticeable, crap milage and costs more...

so you guys reckon bp ultimate is the best for mileage? i've always use optimax...but occasionally i use bp n can feel that the engine is more stable and less noisy but never really notice bout the mile age.... since my jazz is for daily use does ultimate really improve the mileage?

ultimate is cheaper and cleaner...i don't smell the exhuast fumes as much with BP Ultimate
why even use optimax?

Well in my Type R...
Optimax gives me much more mileage compared to ultimate or Synergy.
Optimax i average 500km (city and highway driving)
Ultimate i average 430km (city and highway driving)
Synergy i average 450km (city and highway driving)

and Optimax is 98RON.

I've tested Shell Optimax, BP Ultimate and Mobil 8000 to as close as ideal conditions as practical (ie. Firstly, I put a full tank of one, reseted the meter, then when the tank was empty, I poured another tank of the same fuel. Then it was tested over two full tanks. I then did this with the next type. Secondly, I drove as consistently as I did, and much the same route for 6 weeks. This includes seeing my gf every second day and only driving at the same times).

From this, I found that BP Ultimate came on top in terms of performance and smoother. Ie. It feels quite quick the throttle response compared to the others, where I felt a bit laggy.

In terms of economy, Optimax came on top but no greater than 0.2L per 100km. However I found that the car tends to be less stable than Ultimate or Mobil 8000.

I'd personally rate BP Ultimate, and Optimax and Mobil 8000 as equal.

However, given the $$$ factor. I pour on normal unleaded most of the time..... with the good stuff once a month.

The Jazz is designed for 91 octane. So going for 98 won't give you any performance gain. All you will get is the cleaning effect of the extra detergents used in premium fuel.

but i normally use Vortex98 and is alot of differece in power and rev for my jazz.

I'm pretty sure that it's just your mentality. From my experience, there was no difference in power by using higher octane fuel in the jazz. In fact, the only time you might really get a hp difference is when the ecu is tuned for it... like for example, s2000, rx7/8, evo series and wrx sti.

However, you will get better fuel efficiency and a cleaner engine as previously stated.

You guys realise you can't test a brand out with just trying out one tank full. You have to use it at least three times in a row to see it's full effect. I personally recommend BP, but Shell is much more convenient, it's more common. BP I have to go out of my way to fill up. So much hassle.

True true. If you are in Sydney or Melb, then Vortex98 is a good alternative to Ultimate, and you get 4 cents off from shopping at safeway/woolies too.

I have noticed the exact same thing with my Type R. I am currently using Mobile 8000 but the exhause fumes are very strong especially in the morning. I didnt notice it much with Ultimate however i am still unsure of which fuels give me best performace vs milage. I am yet to try Vortex 98.

It's because your engine runs richer when it is warming up. And now it is winter, the cold engine means it runs rich for longer than in summer/spring/autumn.

My Jazz is slow, no matter what kind of fuel goes in. So I stick to the cheapest with a little injector cleaner every now and then.

No matter how quick or slow your car is your garenteed to get extra kms out of using 98+ ron. Question is is the extra few cents/litre worth the extra few kms/cleaness of the engine. I personally think it is.

I personally disagree with this. Forgetting the no. of km's vs cost, from everything that I have read on the topic, the relatively small gain that you see in cleanliness vs cost is not worth it.

I use Caltex Vortex 95 octane (as I lease my car and can't take it to any other fuel suppliers). Between the 95 and 98 Octane on Vortex I noticed no difference in performance the fuel economy was no better. So I have stuck to the 95 octane fuel. The 91 octane makes my engine more noisey. I get on average 500++ KM with city driving with the 95 octane. I own a VTI-S CVT as my daily driver.
