Will an engineer certify 17's on an EG????? How else do i clear a defect 4 wheels that dont comply??
somehow i doubt that, considering they only came with 14" steelies from the factory. best bet is to whack some stockies back on and clear it.
put stockies on get it cleared and then jus put your rims back on.
already considered that, but they stung me with a $75 fine for "driving a motor vehicle that does not comply to standards" that'll get expensive if it keeps happening!!
it won't happen very often at all if you drive carefully in suburbia...
srsly, if you give cops a reason to look at you..they can be real real meanasses when they wanna be
You can get most things engineer certifyQuote:

but yeh just change ur rims and get it cleared.
u cant just get the wheels engineered
u gotta synchronise ur whole instrument cluster with regards to tacho and speedo and odometer reading
and also even though ur wheels are within 2 inches of stock the rolling diameter still has to be within 1% of original or something along those lines
u can have any size rim u want
HOWEVER
specs must be + or - 40mm from the original tire diameter
i had a defect on 17" on an EG and i called up the RTA about how big i can go.
somebody re confirm this please.
i heard u can have 2 inches up from factory.
ok, the 1st thing chief wiggam did was check the tyre placard....then he started ranting about how 17's were way over the size allowance. did any eg's have 15's standard??? if so wat??? i need proof for the engineer to take me seriously. as 4 layin low, i live in a small country town. u cant avoid the boys in blue easily. they know ppl round here on a first name basis. i was doin 30km/h with my girl ridin shotgun, xmas shoppin!! not really lookin 4 trouble!! wiggam needed to fill his quota 4 the night!!!
r u in sydney? if so i can help u easy..
not in sydney, but how can u help??
VTC-8OY measure your 17” from top to bottom including the rubber and I’ll measure my stock steely’s including the rubber and w’ll see how far off the rolling diameter is??Quote:

afaik, no EG's ever came with 15s.. only 14s
only the EK/EJ/EM's that came with 14s and 15s..
therefore the legal limit, taking into account that the 2inch rule is valid, would be 16s for EGs and 17s for EKs
Well I'm going 17" but there wont be bling is I doubt anyone will notice them :D
different style rims look different sizes..
for example.. if you buy rims with a lip, visually they could look smaller than the same size rim without a lip..
I'm get'n these ones :thumbsup:Quote:

Use this site to check your original wheel/tyre combo Vs the 17's in metric.

I believe that EG's did come with 195/55R15 on the EG shape CRX... If so, that is a 0.3mm increase against 205/40R17's.
If Chief Wiggum hassles you, ask him to explain what the RTA means by this:
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registrati...vsi09_rev4.pdf
Better yet, print it out for him to take home and read.
I know of one 'friend', that went to the extent of having a new tyre placard printed up and fitted with a factory 16" tyre option that allowed his 19's to be legal.
HOT TIP: Carry a tyre phamphlet/brochure(preferably your brand) around which shows the factory wheel/tyre combo rolling diameter and the aftermarket combo diameter. I got one a Hankook brochure which clearly shows my 215/35R18 have a 1mm increase on my factory 205/55R15's, no hassles with cops!!
Thats some nice info  :thumbsup:Quote:

My girlfirend has 17's fitted to her civic, 205/40R17. Factory the ED Civic came with 165/70R13's but I keep a copy of the RTA booklet in her car and most highway patrol tend to get flustered when you keep evidence in the car. It takes the wind outa their sails and they normally just caution you.
My SSS Pulsar has 215/35R18 and they are the same height as factory wheel/tyre combo. Been hassled but always let of once I prove, I am legitimate.
My Nissan X-Trail has 255/35R20(215/70R15 factory) so I am 4.5mm over
yeh they can be engineered.............. my rolla was engineered sitting on 17s
Who did it for you and how much did it cost?Quote:

you must have been hooning around
no hooning, just cops on the north coast of nsw!! ive found out that they will engineer em cause its only a 10mm increase over standard in height!! but..... hav 2 remove my super low springs b4 he'll certify em due to the fact that it scrubs :( btw, ive got 205/40/17's. with 215/45/17's he said no cause it put's the instruments out by 8%. i've answered my own question, but hope it helps someone else. cheers guys!!
