TODA Australia made VS Japan

Hi,

I have just received the TODA CAI that I purchased off Pete. Let me just say, Australian made wins. For everyone that wants real performance gains with a bolt on then I suggest you contact TODA Australia the developers and manufacturers of this brilliant product.

I am in somewhat dismayed that this product did not get far greater support from the JAZZ community. With all the topics on modifying you car, we had a company here in Australia, accessible who took the iniative to develop and produce a true bolt on product with provable performance increases through the use of a dyno and no one supported it except JUST10 and Petrovski.

I am an industrial designer and I take it off to TODA for the development of this product. To bend a piece of tube through the tight engine bay of the JAZZ and into the side panel, where the OEM CAI is situated is quite an achievement.

It took about 30min to fit including removal of OEM filter box.

I have a Jazz VTI-s 2003 model, the only mods are front lower and upper bars and rear bars. Lowering in a week or two and require ground leads to fit.

What made it such a worthy purchase, first gear is no longer short revving to 6,500 easily, this is then followed all throught the gear ranges. The car no longer gasps at high revs where the VTEC engine performs at its best. 5% more power is easily achieved and more than likely double that.

Sound wise, it just makes a sweet noise over the OEM box. Not loud just sweet.

Will consider larger diameter extractors if anyone has some? This may complete the engine mods for this car.

This JAZZ is the family car.

I just hope that this product will be available in the future, for the development of modding a great simple car.

The CAI is a Toda Racing Cai for the Jazz. Toda Australia is authorised to be the Distributors for many reasons, this being one of them.

And yes, the CAI is a worthy mod to do for the Jazz, having experienced the difference and noting back to back dyno tests, its proven and well worth the money.

i got custom made on mine as well, apexi isnt as good it locates the pod in the middle of the engine bay but to my knowledge fits auto.
Only thing about mine is the fact that it whistles and is loud but the gain is great, i gained almost 5kw's well depending how you look at it, between 4-5kw depending on whether a fan was used or not to blow air at the front.

Miss Channel, I think by far the TODA Aust. CAI is better than the Apexi as it is tuned for the Jazz engine. I believe but may be incorrect in saying the Apexi is a universal pod filter. The idea of changing a component on a combustable engine without testing and development for a specific engine seems fruitful, always trie and buy mods that have some specific evidence that they are better than the OEM product.

The TODA is also housed within the side guard, away from the engine and fully enclosed. I would recommend this mod to you if you can find one to buy.

But most importantly, there are people on this forum that have developed it and have provided car specific evidence that it works.

Whether a write up has been done before, further evidence of its validity as a performance mod on such forum's as Ozhonda should always be welcomed.

The sound is not loud at all, it is a soft suction noise as the rev's increase making the driving experience all the more enjoyable.

I base more statements of many years and dollars modifying Morris Minor Mini Cooper S and Leyland Mini GT's for race and road. If back then, 10 yrs I could have bought a bolt on mod that gave me this performance increase I would have paid an arm and a leg for it.

These small mods are making the Honda Jazz more enjoyable to drive around the City and the country.

Cheers to all those who believe that had work does mean something and this is testified by the development of the TODA CAI for Honda Jazz.

do they have cai for other hondas?

How come some ppl say this CAI's indution noise is really loud and some ppl say its really quite?.. does it vary car to car?

Thanks. I got a quote and was going to order a custom one made for autos but thought id give the Apexi a try first.. if its not that good, il get a TODA.

0098, we can custom make an intake for special jobs if there is nothing we havent already designed.

You can shoot Adrian or myself a pm (thought Adrian will be much slower in responding) if you have any special or one of makes your interested in. Note here that the costs incurred through the design and development stages will be much cheaper once spread over multiple units.

Miss_Chanel, being in Sydney, where adrian has an inhouse 4wd dyno, its best to speak to him and even get a test fitment :)

will it fit the facelifted version?

I am so glad that you are happy with it Satanoperca. It makes all that time I was without a car worthwhile (over a month) just for someone to finally understand and appreciate the effort and time that went in to it. I have been banging my head against a wall here trying to convince people how good it is.

The only reason I think petrovski was ever convinced on it was because we are good mates outside of the forum and he got to see it first hand and he knew I wasn't bullsh*tting.

Anyways I think these will become somewhat of a rare modification. I'm just glad that someone who appreciates it has one.

Also I don't get why everyone keeps comparing TODA intake to Apex'i (Ms Chanel I know we have dicussed this before)....How many times do I have to write that I have used both and have tested both and the TODA intake wins hands down. JUST-10, once again thank-you for taking the initiative to develop this intake.

Have been driving around Melbourne today, I love this mod. The power difference is incredible and the smoothness of the rev range is why I wanted a Honda in the first place.

I may have underestimated the sweet noise coming from the front guard. It is a lot louder than the stock filter box, but that swish of noise from air being sucked into the CAI just makes you want to kick it harder. How long the engine will last, don't care it is the driving experience that counts and the luck of not getting caught buy the police hitting 90km in second gear. Love VTEC.

In some selfish way, JUST 10, I want no one else to have one.

I called Adrian today at TODA Australia to commend him on this design and let him know that it was not a waste of time doing the development, some people out there in the universe do appreciate good design.

I also be interested in the difference a good set of headers will do to a already well tuned exhaust.

After fitting the CAI I cannot see how good headers other than the OEM would make that much a difference if air was being restricted at the intake in the first place.

how much does it cost for parts and installation of this CAI?

Firstly what is the model of your K&N pod filter and the internal diameter that
connects to the CAI pipe ?

Regarding the induction roar with the CAI, I wonder if it makes much difference
to the decibel level if you install carpet/felt/suitable material to the internal
walls of the container space(like in an audio sound chamber?) where the pod filter is located. Also consider coating the external surface of the container space with sound deadening paint. Insulating the long induction pipe (eg. black insulating rubber used on hot water pipes, 3" dia) to dampen resonance with the positive benefit of reducing temperature soak from the engine compartment. Please try it out and let us know the effect.

I'm sure most car enthusiasts are aware of this.
It's the fine art of tuning the diameter and length of piping to increase the speed
of moving air over a broad (hopefully) engine speed range. It's the air that rushes
down the pipe that sets up the resonance which generates the induction noise level. I guess it's these parameter that Toda experimented with to achieve the 4kw gain at the wheel - simply amazing! Having a dyno is a fun tool which most of us cannot afford. We just rely on our seat-of-the-pants feelings and our auditory senses to tune and adjust that extra little bit of performance out of the engine.

Interesting to note the different solutions engineers use to manage noise resonance. I've seen the road version of the hot 1.6 DOHC Lotus Ford Escorts(1971) with an exhaust muffler connected to the air intake. I've read of Rolls Royce having 6 mufflers with different diameters to tune out exhaust resonance. How about generating some amplified 'white noise' to neutralise the CAI induction roar at high rpm? This could take quite a bit of effort invested by a skilled person to incorporate a device to the CAI. I wonder if grafting a component from the OEM Jazz intake device (or some other suitable part) would help. Can I hear the cash register playing the Abba tune 'Money, Money, Money' ?

Thanks for the ideas. I will definitely try wrapping the CAI pipe with insulating rubber, this will hopefully reduce some sound.

I had intended of removing all the carpets and underlay and spraying body deadner on the inside and around the firewall and underbody of the car to reduce some engine and road noise.

I like the sound the intake makes at high revs.

satanoperca, which other air filter set up for jazz u ever seen urself? its better to have comparison... i remember another bloke installed a custom made piping and bmc filter. He mentioned he dynoed his car as well, with a gain of 4 kw too. I m not trying to say that urs is not good, but i believe other set up may b able to achieve the same result as well. I m using simota kit and some of us are using it. All are happy with it as well. Maybe one day we could meet up and change opinions first hand.

If it has been designed for the Jazz 1.5lt engine then I would expect to see similar performance increases. If it is a universal system, able to go on other cars then I find it highly unlikely or extremely lucky if it is able to achieve the same performance increase as the one I have put on.

I am more than willing to catch up and compare notes as to speak.

try putting on the Apexi power intake filter into the CAI pipe, c does it get better power gain from the original CAI filer ... :)

The original CAI filter is a K&N which from all tests (independant) I have seen provides better flow than pretty much anything else on the market.

One thing which I'm not sure if you were told Satanoperca, is that you should reset the computer. Remove positive terminal from the battery for 10mins. This will then let the car "learn" the new setup much quicker.

From memory it took about 4-5 runs on the dyno for the computer to "learn" the settings just to give you a bit of an indication....

i have a jazz 1.4 es and i want make some modifications. my car dont have vtec...have only.filter air,oil tank....and i want istale a turbo or compressor...and hear in portugal i dont find nathing....

Thanks JUS-10 about resetting the ECU. Are having the car serviced, putting the stock air box back on for service. Will reset the ECU next week. Will keep you posted about any changes.

I did notice yesterday that the CAI pipe was quite hot, so I will be wrapping it in rubber to reduce heat and some noise.

Well, maybe i could help you a little. Down here in Singapore theres many aftermarket turbos for Jazz, whether for 1.3L or 1.5LVtec usage. But across our border in Malaysia theres many tunning shops specially for Hondas, and for Jazzs too, but slightly cheaper and workmanship quite class i`ve heard( according to TOVA ).
