Hi ppls,
Just curious to know what ppl tend to lean towards when looking at the Jazz as a potential track car.
To start off, I know nothing about Jazz's, so I'm just starting out, and extending my knowledge from the DC tree :)
What kind of suspension mods would you perform on your Jazz to get it running about 1.19 around wakefield with a stock motor? (mayb jst ur cheapo DIY CAI but thats about it :p)

Pretty easy to strip weight for starters. Remove heavy space saving spare, back seats, etc.
Next nice set of strut bars. Upper front, lower H, C pillar, upper rear, lower rear, tie bars and behind rear bumper bar. A whole set costs less than 1 front strut bar for most other cars.
Coilover suspension set hard and good rubber.
a stock one with decent tryes r able to do 1.20.. its been done
isnt it illegal to remove rear sets

so you drive your car to the track and then remove seats or remove them at home and then drive to the track?
The spoon jazz weights about 800kg and is stripped down pretty well and goes good from what ive seen in videos but it doesnt have that much power over the standard jazz

Get coilovers, a few braces, semi-slicks and a bit of weight saving and you'll do it (if you can drive).
Petrovski was doing 1:22 with all interior, street tyres and sussy mods....and that was his first time out
wat kind of coils would u recommend on a jazz? how stiff etc...

Did you watch the Spoon Fit that was on the VTEC club DVD? Hehehe.
Petrovski did 1:20.xxx with aftermarket suspension and fender braces.. it was only his first time at Wakefield, so I'd say doing 1:19 is definitely feasible.
And there's no problem removing the rear seats it takes about 30 seconds to remove.. actually I drove around like that for ages, I don't think you'll run into any trouble unless you try to sit passengers in the back ;)
The spacesaver tyre and tools is ~20kg, and the rear seats are 30kg.

Yeah in GT4 when you do stage 3 weight reduction and get the full roll cage with heavily modified super lowered suspension then alot of cars are too rigid. Can't put a full roll cage on a still street legal Jazz in NSW but even if you could the suspension and tyres would be the factor wether it still handled will a really stiff chassis.Quote:

I have been on Wakefield in my totally stock Jazz (CVT) and my fastest time was 1m20.916seconds.
It was my first time there but will go back sometime in 2006.
I left all the seats incl. the front passenger seat, and the spare tyre and its jack at home (to reduce the weight ideally).
The day I was there, Pete and Andy were there and they're times are identical to what I got. With a bit more lap practice, a Jazz ideally could do sub 1m20's!
pete's 1:20.xx definately could have been improved on.
1. first time out
2. he had full interior (not like the other jazz drivers there :P)
3. had a tow bar!!
4. had me sitting in the passengers seat! :rolleyes:
personally i belive that if he went back again with a stripped out car he'd be able to do 1:19's or even a high 18
1.18!!
wow that would be an outstanding time for a stock jazz..
so he's car is completely stock? no sways or anything of the kind?
must be a crazy driver :D

yes absolute nutcase of a driver! very fun to be in with though! for the next 4days had a sore arm from holding on so much (or i'd be flying all around the car!)
funny (or bad) thing was i think there was a Fast Fours journalist down there, cause in teh next FF they had something about a wakefield track day put on by these guys. They had an interview with a sklyline driver and a driver of a 250kw cordia.
Both which we happened to have lapped MUCH quicker than! i would have thought a jazz pulling the times we did would attract much more attention :)
I'd agree to that, Pete's car would have easily broken the 1m20 if he did some weight reduction. And 1m18's is not out of the question either!Quote:

The exhaust and intake are very restrictive, exhaust with extractors will give closer to 10kw and intake seems to be around the 4-5kw. the spoon was only like 120ps and stock jazz is 110ps.
i aint really asking about how to get the most KW/HP gains in a jazz...jst wat sorta mods u can do to the thing to get it to handle better.

First start with some decent tyres.
Then maybe strut tower bars, some J's racing fender braces :

Or whole suspension upgrade. But before doing this I recommend upgrading the oil system, and there didn't seem to be any off-the-shelf options for this (eg. baffled sump pan) for the Jazz, which is why I stopped after just tyres.
