Hi guys,
I am not too familar with sports cars but im considering buying a second hand 2003 DC5R or a 2003 WRX...wat are the benefits of each that u noe of?
I noe personally that the HOndas are very reliable as i am driving atm a 1998 model accord. the type r, from reviews appear to be uncomfortable for driving? can this be fixed by suspension or sth? the WRX is good because its all wheel drive and 4 doors.
Also, can adults fit into the back seats...im 6ft tall BTW...

you will have a hard time fitting anybody in the back seat
i m 5ft7 and barely anyone can fit behind the drivers seat.
stay away from parramatta rd if you're in sydney, its one bumpy mofo. i've sat in a echo, jazz, accord, MR2, S15, DC5 S, Accord Euro.
i still reckon the DC5R has the best seats, great back support. hugs you so tight... i can just fall asleep on them when i m waiting for my gf.
the back seats are fine in a dc2 compared to say... an s15 (u may as well chop ur legs off)...
you buying the car for yourself or for other people?

I find the suspension is not as harsh in the wrx

WRX also has 4 doors. WRX definitely more comfortable for rear passengers, its similar to say a nissan pulsar.
get the WRX
more roomy and comfortable (suspension wise) and there more fun to drive with a blow off valve, but thats just me...

im 6"1' or 6"2' depending on the day and my head hits the roof and its driving me nuts. Im thinking i might try get the seat lowered a bit.
wrx vs teg are apples and oranges.
things to consider:
Can you fit comfortably?
If you want to mod it wrx will be easier and cheaper to get power from.
Teg will use alot less fuel
Teg will be alot easier/cheaper to insure
In my opinion the teg is built better so you will have less problems with it.
Long drives the teg blows as susp is too hard and doesnt have alot of torque.
everybody drives wrxes ;) makes em cheaper though.
comfort in wrx > comfort in dc5r

Well there are about as many gtsts as there are wrxes these days but id go the gtst or the 34gtt over the wrx purely cause its got 2 more cyl more room for mods and is really an all round better car.
Gotta love teh phrase "race inspired" what the frell does that mean? hondas race cars are nothing like the teg. They are FWD for starters and the definition of a sports car starts with RWD so that kills that. Its not got alot of power so that kills that. It does however handle very well and have a good weight distribution so iguess that helps.
Last time i got inspired by racing i went and got a beer ;)

The "definition" of sports car varies and due to alot of improvements in transmissions and drivelines it doesnt really HAVE to be FWD. dont fool youreself mate. While the teg is great car its still a run about or psuedo sports car. You cant buy sports cars for under 70k in aus. The s2000 is a sports car the teg is a very well built commuter.

If I had a choice, I'd certainly pick WRX over Integra. Integra tend to be more expensive to purchase, doesn't have that 'oomph' compared to WRX and it's a front wheel drive. If you can, try and find a club spec evo7. It comes with leather seats and sunroof as extra.

the integra being a FWD is not a liability when compared to the WRX... my mate has a MY04 and the thing body rolls like crazy... but it has the AWD grip. if that didn't make sense, then drive a stock wrx and throw it around consecutive corners, hop in a type r and do the same thing and you'll see the difference. not baggin the rex, as i've stated before, im quite fond of em, and as i said b4, i'd get one... and another thing... whats with all this wrx talk? i only mentioned it as an example :confused:
as for power... i'd say its all about balance, brakes, weight, gearbox, chasis etc. compared to any other stock car (under 50k), i think the whole package works well with a type r, and as for the weight distribution, again for comparison sake... dc2 is double wishbone, dc5 is mcpherson (and wrx)... double wishbone > mcpherson strut
and maybe "race inspired" was too much of a statement, but again, that was only directed to "ricer" lol. but for the sake of a friendly debate, can anyone suggest a car under 50k that approaches the type r philosophy (stock of course! and thats showroom pricing at time of release)
I will choose Type R.
It's funny how everything is compared against a WRX, Why not compare it to a mazda MPS :) or some other car hehehe

WRX is definately a more comfortable ride than a type-r but have you considered the new LS integra's? Are you after the performance? I've been in the newer LS's and they aren't really short of power when compared to other four cylinders, plus they are really comfortable, still the only negative thing in your case is you want to beable to take passengers, the integra's aren't really the greatest car for "fitting" back passenger's especially when compared to a four door.. But if it's only when going out with mate's every now and then (weekends perhaps) then you should really be concentrating on which car you like more, take them both out for test drives and decide which one takes your interest more.. your mates will fit in both cars no worries (i'm 6ft something and have sat in the back of DC5 and only thing that got me for my head touched the roof) and i'm sure if they are drinking they really won't care about being a little cramped..
Another thing i read somewhere in this topic was some one saying the type-r isn't really a sports car or something along those lines? Isn't the R supposed to stand for "racing"? I am 99% sure honda has used that in advertisements before.

Just another point i'd like to make is when racing around a track i have read dozens of articles that show Type-r's comfortably out performing wrx's and 200's. (though i think the new type-r vs s15 in Aus where pretty even now, but wrx is definately left behind).
One last thing i'd like to say is that it's all about the Gen 2's, yeah that's right, typeR has nothin on old school LS power when it comes to the track! :D
Lol, if u want to know how a type R performs on the track, go race one..... a huge rear wheel drive kW monster isnt everything.... :)

Yer i gotta agree with teh go kart thing here. The connection with the road is pretty damn good, you feel everything and thats in an S!!! i had heard the R made long drives a little bit irritating due to the stiffness and response so thats why i never got an R before but the S makes a good compromise. The WRX however, in that respect, is not even in the same ball park.
Alot of people praise the WRX because its AWD and therefore should handle better? i disagree with this as the belief that its is and understeering so and so is well founded. I tried to understeer the teg and had serious trouble even in the wet. I always found that when a FWD car starts to under steer you are essentailly screwed but this is not the case with the teg.
I agree totally with this and i drive a 90 LS lol, it understeers easily if you don't know the car's limitations but if it does start you just simply back it off the accelerator a bit and it comes back fine..Quote:

The DC5R rarely understeers, very stiff suspension though (like Banana said, get 2 way LSD my friend or coilovers). Friends with S15's and WRX's all say the interior of the R is beautiful (pst! get red sway theme). About the controversy of the rear seats... ummm its a coupe, you musn't expect it to have glorious amount of room (although the only roomy coupe i've found to be is the RX8 nice! unlike FTO's and S15's). Finally piece of advice with the Recaros, on the driver seat the entry/exit wears out the padding, get use to getting out of the car awkwardly.
