Has anyone driven the new Civic sport 2L?

Was shopping around today and didn't realise that it's available now. Though they didn't have one to test drive in the 2L sport.

Comes with leathers, sunroof and 16" wheels. The dash and steering wheel is abit weird but overall it's got a nice interior.

Does anyone know if the 2L is a SOHC or DOHC?

it's a shame it only pumps out 114KW.....I assume it's a SOHC.

why yes i have driven the new 2.0ltr sports with the paddle shift and was about to get an manuel but wasnt lucky enough. went well with 3 people in the car tho. i think its sohc as it doent have such a high redline. its got 177nm tho so doesnt matter that is only 114kw also develops peak power down low. it drives every similar to the euro so its something to compare it to. iv also driven the vti with the 1.8ltr engine. price is 33,155$ manuel drive away. if you considering buying it come to me il hook you up because i work for honda:)

I bet the $33K driveaway price is for the Sport manual.
Pity the new Civic range only comes with 4 speakers and no gas struts for the rod holding the bonnet. Cloth trim on the 1.8L looks crap. Bring back the velour.
I'm not sure whether the buttons on the steering wheel have back lighting.

Also......I believe the variable cam timing is on the intake only however variable lift is on both cams (assuming they followed the same path as the K20A). What's the engine code for this new engine?

Yep, i test drove an automatic sport today. Was very impressed actually. Im quite certain I'll be trading the prelude in on one very shortly.

Tho there is a huge demand so it may take a few months to get the one you want specifically....

the 2.0 is a DOHC.. dunno where the Honda mag was from, but i believe there is a typoerror.. mags here reprints what ever honda marketing dept says. eg, article which mentions about the 8th gen suspension, says a 'return of the double wishbone'. fact is, the the 7th gen has a double-wishbone suspension at the rear too.. the current 8th gen is an improvement of the 7th gen design

also, can anyone confirm the hybrid is a 1.3 idsi or the 1.3 idsi+3 stage ivtec? 'cos i remember that the new civic hybrid will have the 3-stage-ivtec+IMA...

frankly, $33155 is pretty steep for a civic sport manual, considering other dealers are doing the euro manual for about $33000 driveaway. u get an extra 40bhp 'free'

The K20Z in the 2.0L civic has i-VTEC with DOHC. The VTC is on the intake cam only, and VTEC is also only on the intake cam. Think of it like the Thai Accord 2.4's engine but with only 2.0L.

The engine is actually not bad. Think of it, 114kW from a 2.0L, that's 57kW/L. The Euro's K24A3 with i-VTEC on both intake and exhaust cams makes 140kW from 2.4L to give 58.3kW/L. Not sure about the compression ratio of the K20Z, but since it is a low revver, then it should be lower than the K24A3's 10.5:1. So to me, Honda's matched a performance 2.4L's kW/L output using just an economy engine setup!

I disagree. You get leather interior in the civic for that price, plus the civic, dimensions wise, is almost as big as the accord. Power isn't everything either.....

After the test drive however, I believe it makes very good use of its 114kw :)

The 6th gen 1.6L Civic VTi (with CVT) that I bought in Aug 1996 already had double wishbone suspensions on both front and rear.
The 2.0L is a DOHC. See the car at the motor show or look at the photos in the forums.
Typo errors are common. For example, in the www.hondacivic.com.au website, the 1.8L VTi-L doesn't have any audio controls on the steering wheel. But I saw the car at the motor show, checked the detailed brochure spec and found that it had the controls.

Anyone know the fuel consumption diff between the euro and civic?

Euro was pretty shocking if you fang it around. I'm used to small motors.

Euro does 11-12 L/100km in the city and 6-7 L/100km on the highway. Averages to about 9-10 for the usual mix.

If both had the same price, I'd go for the Euro, seriously. $33000 for a manual base is reasonable. I got $34000 for my manual base back in 2004.

I must say pictures dont do the car any justice you have to see it in real life inside and out it is a great piece of car, although i believe the sport could do with a spoiler matching to mugen civic dominator and a set of 17" or 18" wheels. Yes they are in 5 speed manual and auto i was priced drive away in newcastle $31000 M and $33500 A. I am serously considering purchacing one within in the next year. The black leather is the better looker

wont beat a Vtir off the shelf, But i do believe not much work is needed for it too be a big hitter (mmmmm mugen supercharger). Also Great drive very comfy.... That being from the auto.

I don't get wtf it only has 114KW for a 2L DOHC. Talk about getting de-tuned a ripped off.

I mean 125KW would have been nice with 188Nm of torque.

I think its more to do with marketing. Because if it had much more it would be on par / better than the base Integra.

i'd choose the sport over a euro for sure.

and MKI4EVA your dealers should let u change rims on it, i know at ours we have a selection of the honda rims on a stand (i'm not in sales but i presume as an option to choose rims)

MKI4EVA, panda has pretty much said it all, your dealership should let you change rims, as the dealership i asked say that i would be allowed without voiding the warranty depending on rim size. But you best to ask the dealership you (may be) purchacing the car from. IMO as long as you dont go over the stock rolling diameter you should be fine. And yes they are great cars. And i still stand by my belief that they need the mugen dominators spoiler on them

well, it boils down to individual preference.. for my $33k, i will go for Euro. to me, leather is nice to have.
putting it in prespective, $33k means a RRP + on road cost of $3k for the civic sport. almost double the typical honda average of $1.5k.

NO coupe here at all, i love drivin the Civic Sport i have a auto one and ive driven the manual one a few times too! I love this car and the way it is priced for around 35k on the road drive away for auto is very very reasonable...

I sold one to a lady today comparing it to the new golf, that was 37k without leather or sunroof!

If u compare apples to apples with the civic it shapes up very well!

I know most of this from workin at the motorshow and listening to what people have to say about it after comparing to all the other makes in the same price range!
After most people get in it and drive it and get used to the big dash they love it!

We sold 4 civics this morn already and half the public still dont know its for sale yet!

This will be a great car for honda, i love it and im very proud to drive one and even more sell them!

Hi Pazzman R, i live in Perth and today was the official launch! My bro just got back from the honda dealers :D brand spanking new Black Civic VTI-L manual for 28k not sure if its a great deal but who cares i didnt pay for it lol! It drives nice, dont like the cloth interior and im not used to the new clutch and gear shift though.

Yeh he got floormats and tinting with it, owell just $100 no biggie, but it feels good to have one of the first new Civics around town!

is the new civic's 1.8 i-vtec engine uses variable valve timing and lift? or is it just variable valve timing only? or is it the 12/16 valve switching as used on the jazz? :confused:

just went to see the new civic at the showroom (in perth), got a quote of $26500 driveaway for the VTi auto, with carpet mats only. didnt realise the on road cost would be that much.

if you can get a civic auto sports 31,990 drive away take it and laugh because that means you not paying for ctp, rego and stamp duty!!!

how come the on-roads for the civic are a whopping $3k?? are there much more pre-delivery stuff to do than any other hondas?

or is the civic intentionally priced low, and let the higher-than-norm on-roads cover the difference?

That's usually my target when I shop for a car. I ask for $1000 below RRP drive away. And in the end I get it at RRP drive away. I paid $34000 for my euro drive away when RRP was still 34,250. :D Shopping and bargaining is 1/2 the fun. :)

Anyway, it seems that the Civic Sport is more expensive than the Accord Euro Std.

Parra in NSW...........I hate fark'n paper work.

Wasn't impressed with the car at all. Dash felt like your in a blardy odessey. Car way to heavy for the power output.

At the end of the day it's just another civic. I don't get why ppl are getting excited. Maybe you'll feel diff after you drive the car and think with your feet on the ground.

the civic is a great car and a massive step forward from the old civic...and if u compare it to all the other cars in the range it is bloody good!

No Sat Nav on the Civic yet. Which is disappointing but I'd imagine that it will eventually come out. After all, they have it on the Honda Euro Luxury as an option and it looks quite similar to that one you have in the picture.

For those comparing the Civic Sport to the Euro:
1. The Euro standard manual is a better car. It drives better, has a better engine and arguably the Japanese build quality is better than the Thai with better detail (e.g. better carpets, door seals, spare alloy compared to the spare steel in the Civic Sport). If you're getting a manual car, get the Euro.
2. The reasons for getting the Civic Sport automatic over the Euro standard auto are mainly cosmetic frills - better fuel economy, paddle shift, leather seats and sunroof. The Euro automatic performance is smooth but not fast... and is a fair comparison to the Civic Sport.

If you're wanting the frills, compare the Civic Sport to the Euro Luxury. The former is $36k driveaway with tinting, metallic paint, mats, rear sensors. THe latter is $43k driveaway with very few extra accessories (but oh so gorgeous heated leather seats, 17" rims and HID).

Mind you, the Civic Sport paddle shift isn't anywhere as responsive as the VW golf GTI DSG.

If your budget is around 35k, then go for the Civic Sport if you MUST have leather. Go for the Euro if you don't need leather. If you are comparing leather-equipped Euro, then it is already out of the 30-40k price range.

BTW, the paddle shift is nothing special. The response time should be similar to the Euro's auto tiptronic.
