First week of driving a new one... ne ideas? some friends reckon u should hold every gear until redline... ohters reckon that screws the gbox... and redlining should only be done in 2nd gear upwards... some even say 3rd gear upwards...
ideas? stories? ....... hahahaha tragedies?
Although I didn't do much launching when I had my EK4, the best method I found for launching was place it in first gear, keep the clutch in and rev it to 3500 - 4000rpm.
when you wish to take off, don't dump the clutch, rather take your foot off it in one slow but swift motion that lasts like 1 second or so.
use your right foot to keep the revs up as you reach the friction point, and when the clutch is fully out, use your right foot to regulate the accelerator so you dont get too much wheel spin, when you get traction, floor it.
Shiftpoints should be at redline in each gear. there is definately no problem with redlining it in any gear

In the Si i launch at about 3500~4000, and do pretty much what Kit said.
If you want to do it the way you were told Ghost ... well ... have fun running like a slug :D revs need to be nice and high to get good speed gains faster out of the next gear, whether its 1st or 4th
or you could even launch the si at around 6.5K eh yonas!

In any Vtec, if you want a good launch you must redline each gear or wherever the peak power is. Because one of the Vtecs advantages is its ability to rev high and still have power down the end of the tacho:) 1st gear in an NA vtec is probably the most important gears out off all of them because it sets you up for 2nd and 3rd.

nah.. u launch in VTEC,, u cop major wheelspin..
i just launch at 3.5k - 4k.. just feather it.. practice makes perfect..
i alwayz shift at redline.. if i dont.. the next gear i hit will be outta VTEC.

This question needs to be answered by Weezer.. He launches in VTEC mode and the car just takes off like a jet off the line.
Yeah you can do that but its hard on the clutch and also it realy depends on what clutch you have, so there is no 1 answer to the question. If a stock clutch, you can into vtec but need to be very gentle when releasing the clutch to prevent wheel spin or most of it anyway. Plus also depends on your Rim+tire setup and the quality of tire :roll:
hell why not just bounce it off rev limiter and then dump the clutch raping you clutch plate / pressure plate and snapping your fly wheel in half :lol: i know i did but i was on grass lol ...

one thing hto... if i'm driving "fast" ( or at least wanting to)...should i be accelerating while i am changing gears? i tried it today...seemed faster... but i didnt want to break nething so i stopped doing it after a while...

Umm yes for definetly. Your speed still goes up but not as fast as when your in gear. I mean you should know, its just common sense and physics 101.

Double clutching is used when you don't have synchros or they have worn.
(Put clutch in = Disengage clutch.)
1. Put clutch in
2. take out of gear
3. Let clutch out
4. Put clutch in
5. put in next gear
6. Let clutch out.
Of course it happens a lot quicker when you do it in real life!
Its all to do with brining the lay shaft up to speed :D
would dumping the clutch at something like 2-2500rpm and then accelerating be faster than slipping the clutch at higher rpms?
Ultimately, slipping your clutch in at high rpm will be the fastest, but the problem is, your clutch won't last very long (read, won't last long at all!), and you will most definately get alot of stinky clutch burning smell after 1 run.Quote:

At how many revs you can launch/dump at will very much depend on the quality of your tyres and the condition of your clutch.
How about redline/vtec dump in 1st then change into 2nd? ;)
i tried slipping it in last nite... yeh bad smell.... but i heard the clutch cools down and reforms yeh?
no it doesnt cool down and reform, it just burns off, and in the end you'll have no clutch and need to get it replaced!

And yes as vtecchie said, you cant launch with VTEC its impossible no matter how much you change your VAFC to do it.. Must be 30km/h or more and have ALL the correct things to make it activate (oil pressure etc)

yeah i think ah7894454 made a mistake. What he meant was that he launches in that 6 grand area. But wat u guys r saying is correct, technically speaking u cant launch in VTEC.
ive seen him launch... he doesnt spin that much, gives away just enough to get a good start
