Hi guys got a civic here and won't start.
Cranks fine but not getting spark.
Tested the ignition coil and igniter unit and they are fine.
BTW if the BLK/YEL and WHT/BLU wires on the igniter have 12v when the key is set to IGN ON, that means the igniter unit is working?
What other problems could there be?
Havn't tested the distributor cap or leads yet.
What are some other common problems?

does the dizzy spin?
i snapped my timign belt and had no spark looked into that for ages then worked out it was my belt
what error code does your ecu give out?
Yeah the dizzy does spin.
I tried looking for the LED window on the ECU earlier but couldn't find it anywhere on the ECU. Is there another way of getting the error codes?

To view the ECU codes, you need to short the lone electrical connector hidden under the glove box on the left side, then jot down the flashing of the Engine-check light.
And yeah sounds like a Dizzy. Do a dizzy check using a multimeter.
My cap gave up at ~160,000 then the dizzy coil at ~220,000
Will check it first thing tomorrow
How much did the distributor cap cost you?
And does anyone have the ECU error codes list
a dizzy cap is like $30 or so ...OEM is abit more no doubt.
Im thinking its your Igniter module or igniter coil (inside the dizzy) that might be blown...

I dont belive your doagnostics above in your 1st post proove that the coil is ok
ICM ( igniter ) can fail in open or closed circuit making it hard to diagnose. thats why you should always use a known good ignighter and coil.
also seen coils that measure the correct resistance, still faulty
save your self alot of time and borrow someones dizzy to test.

try your new ICM in another car
make sure your wiring is ok for the ICM
what engine do you have
is it EFI ???
retard the dizzy , see if that might "catch" a cylinder and fire it all into life.
Have u pulled a spark lead + plug and actually looked at the spark plug as you try to turn it over ~ checking for a weak or strong or no spark ?
Engine is a D16Y1 EFI
I dont think I can test the ICM into a D16a8 can I ? They look abit different.
bennjamin I've pulled the leads out and tested for spark but there is nothing.
Will try to retard the dizzy tomorrow.
Do you know how I can test the dizzy cap?
are you holding the bottom of the plug to the metal part of the engine
eg ground to compleate the circuit, they wont spark in the air
Yeah there is no spark.
I tried to look for the 2 pin connector to do the ECU diagnostics but could only find a similar looking connector but has 3 pins and different coloured wires.
Do you know where I can find the right connector?
I just figured it out and found the right 2 pin connecter.
But the wires are different coloured. One is black and one is Brown. Should be brown and green/white.
Anyway I did the diagnostics and the engine light just stayed on, so no problems?
Also can someone tell me if the D16y1 and D16a8 Spark plug leads are interchangable?

bennjamin thanks I'll keep your leads in mind. I tried a known working dizzy cap today but no good, still won't start.
have u tried someone elses working dizzy on ur car yet ? As ECU MAN said above , its a good thing to try.
Also , by now id think the cylinders probably are flooded and cant fire anyway - try takign all spark plugs out , disconnect the fuel pump + dizzy , and just turn the car over a few times to spray abit of fuel mist / gunk out of the spark holes. Put back together and try with fresh spark plugs :)
Checked your main relay yet too ?

I have seen cars that sit around for a while not start coz of the plugs. ( crash shops )
change the plugs and your all good to go
How do I disable the fuel pump?
Is there a fuse or connecter I can pull?
Tried new spark plugs
and re-soldered the Main Relay, still no good.

I still think its the Dizzy. You only tried another dizzy cap right? You should try another Dizzy Coil and/or Dizzy Ignitor. Or simply try another whole Dizzy Module.
Or maybe its simply bad engine earthing. Check the earth wires and ensure they havent rusted or anything.
I've tried the Coil and Igniter already.
how sure are you that you connected your ICM up properly.
I have ****ed this up in the past, its posible.
check your ICM wiring, if your not sure take a pic and post it up.
get your hands on another dizzy as a test.
also with a multi meter you can test the ICM signal from the ECU

I'm trying to locate another dizzy but having trouble
with the multi meter which wires should i test?
I tested blk/yel and wht/blu and came up with 12v
From left to right the colours are:
yel/grn, blk/yel, wht/blu and on the side I think is light blue
that looks like its wired ok.
the blk/yel is ment to have 12v so thats OK, the yel/grn is the ICM signal from the ECU, it should be pulsing as you crank the engine.
also check the yel/grn wire for short to gnd, this will blow the ICM
also make sure you havnt crushed any wires in between the ICM and the body of the dizzy
are you gettin gcode 15 in the ecu at all
i know it sounds stupid, but make sure the spark plug leads are in the correct place from the cap to the head. compare your engine to a pic or mates car.
did you do a compression test before they stopped at all?? coz when i built my engine my brother did a comp test, but didnt take out the 'ign' fuse. The leads earthed out and blew the coil in the dizzy, lucky i had a b18b coil, which i swapped and it worked fine.
check for water/oil around the spark plugs??
check your battery earths are solid... and if you moved the dizzy or changed the timing-centralise the dizzy and turn it over.
