I think i just got ripped off, it cost me $500 including curtosy car.
Apparently 40,000km is a big service where they check the valves or something like that and you get a oil and oil filter change.
And they still havent solved my hard starting problem :(
Has anyone else done the 40k service on a euro?
Yes, at 40000kms a valve clearance check and adjustment is in order..
Your quoted price is about 100 dollars more than what I've been quoted.
This service will cost more as checking the valves is time consuming....
My other advice if you want to save some money, take it to a mechanic you trust...
Gee i better save up for the 40k then now :) - on a related note i had the hard starting problem when i got the euro 4 mths ago - told them at the 1k service and all they did was reset the starting program in the computer (or maybe they reset the whole thing cant remember)...... Problem solved :)

I had my 40k service done in July last year & it cost $412.00 including the use of a loan car. I do also supply my own oil, so I guess that you can add maybe another $50 or $60 for oil, so I guess your'e not that far off. I always ask for a quote before every service. Ring around & check prices from other dealers if you feel it's too expensive.

considering if your read the honda owners manual it says "use of non genuine additives is not required and will only increase the running costs of your vehicle" maybe show that to the manager

Good point, to mention the decent dealerships and throwing around prices. I will usually ring 3 dealerships in the area and get the one I am satisfied with as a price guide. I will also let them know that i dont want brake pads once i have seen them myself and not be told by them that they are required.
I think with the Honda name there is a certain company ethic to uphold and also the perception of the brand name to protect.
isnt there a similar thread dissin honda dealers? and after u sign the document the SA can authorise small cheap shit he thinks is necassary (eg wiper rubbers,ect.) if he cannot contact you via your phone no.
Yeah you are right. I am just a tight ar5e and so all the wiper stuff myself that s where they pick up the incidental service dollars from. Wipers blades from bosch are $12 from supercheap, dealer price $26. I once purchased Honda oil and filters at trade price and left them all in the front seat. You should see the SA's face when I let him know the're there! They then get an inkling not to muck me around.
if that's the case why don't you jus go out and buy all Non-genuine parts dump em in ur front passenger seat and jus ask them to charge for labour?
^^ That's what I do. The SA said it was fine as long as I told them I was bringing my own oil and parts when making the service appointment.
BTW, badmouthing dealers is a no-no. But recommending them is alright. So if you have a dealer that you have had a good experience with, you can post it up. Do note that any negative discussion of a dealer should be done without naming them. If you want names, keep it to PM.
^^ yeh do that but dont bring it back and complain about sumthin u bought and had them install, so mny times did this happen jus pisses me off, most occur on non genuine brake pads and following of complaints braking efficiency isn't as good as it was before !@#!%!%

I cant see anyone bagging dealers here! My comment was actually a good rap for Alan Mance Melton. Whats more the SA didn't bag other dealers either.
As for genuine parts, yes to the oil filters, brake pads and other hardware items but wiper blades and the small stuff non genuine will not affect warranty or compromise the car.
If you like the dealer and have positive feedback, post the name. If it is negative, then go through PM.

how much is the trade price (wholesale) for the oil filter, do they mean air filter when they say air cleaner element? how much is that anyway (would it be more cost effective to get the hks panel filter?), what type of brake fluid do you's reccomend, and manual trasmission fluid, engine oil im gonna get motul. and if i provide them all that should i just be paying for the labour? if so how much do they charge an hour? thanks...one more thing... has anyone else got a euro with 120klicks on it or am i the first?? :)
The oil filter is only $12 when servicing at Honda.
I would use only Honda OEM brake/transmission fluid. The only non-Honda fluid I would use is windscreen washer and engine oil. I am running Motul 8100 5-40w in my Euro without any difficulties, having run in the car on Motul 4100 semi-synth. I am tempted to give Mobil 1 (gold bottle fully synth) a try though... except I do not think $80 every 6 months for oil is justifiable.
If you provide all the parts, yes they deduct it off the cost of your servicing. It is very unorthodox for someone to bring in 'all' the parts rather than just engine oil. Labour is the most expensive part of most services anyhow.

i was just quoted $595 at Eastwood Honda (Sydney) for a 40k service. i might shop around. it seems the further west you go, the cheaper the services get! But getting there and back is the hard part :(

I'm still on the stock pads. Still lots of pad life left in them. If I were to change, I'd go for Hawk HPS or Ceramic for price value, or Project Mu B-Spec or NR for performance.Quote:

^^ they would have charged you more at the 30,000km service if they did it though. Check your itemised receipt. Did they do the valve clearance check and air filter replacement? If it's not there, it wasn't done.
i didnt own the car then so i have no idea. it only shows online that the 40k service was performed with 30k on the clock. i think the previous owner stuck to the time interval and not the km interval as the car wasnt doing many ks at all. i guess i can go into a honda dealership and ask for an itemised report of the service. maybe ill open the rocker cover and check a few tappets anyway. if they are ok (after 10k) then ill just leave it till 80k
Check, because my car just did the 40,000km service at 30,000km as well because I don't drive enough. The valve clearance adjustment was not carried out because my tappets were not loud and I hadn't reached 40,000km. They wrote that in the receipt and also a note to carry out valve clearance check at the next service.

Im amazed a switched on Sydney Honda service division manager doesnt get on the forum to increase trade and offer
people on the forum assurance of quality service at a reasonable price! ............simply amazing!
