yeah a good tuner will net u the gains, ive done it on many stock b18c and many turbo'ed ones too, no issues.
its the tuner that gets the gains
the emanage is like a bit more capable vafc
for a b18c, I'd spend the same money on a chipped ecu like uber/crome, etc and have a set up vastly superior in every aspect and actually be able to make good gains(not that you can't make any gains with the emanage, but a programmable ecu will allow for MUCH MUCH more adjustment)
for that car, given the mods get an Apexi PowerFC. its a stand alone ECU which is capable of a far better tune than a VAFC or Emanage.
SINISTR has a good point. if you can afford a PFC, get one, if not for a few hundred bucks you will get a limited piggyback.
now take my advice, i bought an emanage for my S15 as a temporary fix for injectors till i could afford a PFC. just buy the PFC and dont want the money on anything else lol
I have an Emanage waiting to be installed and tuned for my CRX already - and its a good ECU but for 'limited' mods - headers, intake etc. Once you go into advanced mods you are wasting money on getting a piggy back not only in the short term but also in the long term - incase more mods are planned - you're limiting the potential of the motor. its like getting a dog to run but on a short leash :P
on something that'll run an obd0 or obd1 ecu, and something like uberdata/crome/turboedit/other similar stuff is an option for the same price or less of an emanage, there really isn't any time for it that makes sense
i got a b18c jdm so some internal mods.
leavin it NA. whats a good ecu i shoulb b lookin at?
hondata s300j ? mugen ecu? whats the diff with hondata s100 n s200 n s300 ? just more adjustments ? worth the extra few hundred?
You can get a Hondata if you have a local tuner but its still a piggy back isn't it?
Apexi Power FC will cost your around $1200 + install/tuning and its a FULL SYSTEM. AEM is more but has launch control etc.
I know the car - plenty of MODS!
ek4R get a power fc, u car is obd2, plug right in, and cheap.
lol 1200...oh damn. ill think bout it later on.
cheers all with the replies. ill see if i can find a 2nd hand
hondata = fully programmable ecu... just happens to use the stock ecu hardware.
It's not a piggyback by any means though
ahhh so its a chip that you reprogram? its just like a fully programmable ECU, well, it kinda is.
it is a fully programmable ecu... it's just saving you the need to purchase more hardware.
Granted the exact same thing can be done with uberdata/crome for a fraction of the cost, with all the options you could need... but that's another argument, and I might upset someone if I try to suggest that hondata is extremeley overpriced.
i believe everyone is entitled to their own opinions :)
i have a emanage for sale
very good gain on n/a vtec cars or turbo cars
had it on my turbo teg for 1 month and i have all the harnesses for wether you want to n/a tune or turbop tune ///...
retails price is 600 for the unit alone with no harnesses and to get all the harnesses costs as much as the unit
my price is below and its firm
how much is just the power fc? coz i can get an e-manage for at least in malaysia sent over for rm1500....so tats arnd 500 bux or so...but how much wud an power fc cost? sinistr...wat motor u running?
power fc is a stand alone
but they only make it for vtec models like type r and vtir
power fc is good but for the price i would rather the piggy back to tune.
greddy emanage unit is worth roughly 550 - 600 bux alone
take a closer look and you will know you need harnesses, like ignition, pressure sensor, map sensor etc...
if you interested like i said i got one with all harnesses for sale
im running a D16A8 (ZC).Quote:

Best ECU is Motec,
second AEM EMS
third Apexi Power Fc
4th Hondata S200
5th - 10th Microtech, GReddy Emanage, Mugen N1 etc
They're the ecu's ive been looking at until I sold it to you :)
Before this thread becomes overly contentious, you have all been warned not to go there. Friendly discussions are welcomed, but please dont 'fight'.
lol i havnt checkd this thread for weeks and its still alive...
thanks adam. atm need to upgrade other bits and pieces, ECU comes last and not even sure if will get one. but if i do. prob go for the power FC. doubt i have that much money..Quote:

it comes with everything i need right? just plug and play? then get a tunner to tune it for me?
and when i dont it, i could take it off and use the stock ECU yes?
yes yes and yes :)
customisable?
someone shoot me a site or something
Have a good look at the s300j before u go any further.
ATM u could get one installed & tuned for the purchase price of a power fc alone.
s300j more capable unit as well.
na na its cos i have a friend with a power fc. so just interested in the power fc atm . what are some of the features cos i know the s300 has alot
i had a power FC in the civic..now unless u want to pay a bit extra for the functions like throttle launch n etc from the hondata s200 n up then i wouldnt bother..
i bought my power FC for 900 2nd hand..and got it tuned for 600 by dyno dave..best money i spent on the car..u cant go cheap on tuning cause as they say..itll make or break the car :)
personally in my opinion for ur car..just go power FC..bang for buck
but then again how much are the s300's these days?
George.
Go Power FC.
You WILL need launch control.
explain launch control im noob at this.
is it like the m3 launch contrls?? :P
oh and btw adam, when i buy a Power fc has to be compatible for the b16a OBDII ecu right?
u can rev the car as hard as u want..and itll max out and wat u set it to..like lets say u take off on 5k rpm..if u put the accelerator all the way down..itll just sit on 5k..so u do a perfect launch everytime if u get the clutch right of course lol
oh shit..thats insane. now i really want one
LOL yehh u can get that with the hondata s200 and up i remember..back wen i was doin my research for it i ws gonna get it..but it was to much and power fc was a better option at the time..ask the experts like dyno dave and toda au if u reeeeli want to as well..theyll give ya the best answer!
i know dyno dave doesnt beat around the bush..just gets straight into it..which is wat u want! i havent had any exp with toda so i couldnt say anything about them..
thx ahmie.
hmm well we will see if i end up getting up. and if i do need to find a reputable tuner.
does power fc come with its own computer software so u can monitor it urself?
and i heard its in japanese only?
power FC comes with a hand controller..so u get to see what it displays n shiet..i think its got 8 stats all up to look at
u might find some ppl sellin it without a handcontroller..u dont reeli need it..but if u do want to check out wats goin on with the car then get it..i wouldnt buy one with out it..it shows off ur comp :) ppl like wooahh power fc yO!
and mine was in english..i think u can choose language on it ahaha!
haha or i just wont tell them and hide it. and ppl are like WOAH how u keep ur rpm at 5k steady with full throttle? lol magic touch
This is the first I have heard of the PFC having launch control
AFAIK it does not.
LOL spaz!
ok with the power FC it doesnt come stock with throttle control..u might be able to get somethin to enable this cause its like a switch on the back of the clutch or somethin like that..cant remember anymore..but i dont think ive heard of any1 doin this
so i guess send Dyno Dave a pm regarding that if no1 else can answer it..cause i wouldnt know for sure :(
another good thing with the hondata s200 and up was the ability to change full throttle shiftin
u can change gear with ur foot all the way down on the throttle causes it to turn off as soon as the switch on the clutch is enabled..(puttin the clutch in)
