lmfao ... wat a nerd
Been out for years; have been contemplating it for a while now myself.
Easier to hook up cameras for direct web streaming.
Considering SIM i/o operation of the computer; incase it is stolen.
Dedicated powersource will mean it can start up and stream the cameras at any time.
Fully sick, yo! ;) LOL
yeh been looking at doing one myself but will cost too much like round abouts 1500 all up diy... not cheap...
Obviously depending on components!
You can do it for $500 + an old p3 computer...
LOL; Am using a pII 333 / 8gb HDD with 256 RAM. Pick it up for $100 or so.
Screen perhaps $150
+ Inverter
+ Eletrical Bits and pieces
+ RCA Audio Card if wanna hook it up to an Input on your HEADUNIT!!! :)
Under $300 FTW!!!
Full USB Compatability = Unlimted Possibilities!
started getting parts for mine the other week :)
so far have.
600watt invertor

and just got this case
http://www.scorptec.com.au/images/pr...2930_large.jpg
how much did u pay for the screen and inverter?
why are you getting a dc-ac inverter rather than a dc-dc adaptor? What about automatic SUSD controllers? Or are you going to turn it on and off?
Lilliput from hong kong = $280
or Jaycar touchscreen = $320 same as lilly....
Jaycar dc-dc = $100
SUSD controller $30
miniatx + p4 + ram = $150
everything for $600...
if you got an old comp lying around, its even less...just need to spend money on bondo for fabrication and some wiring...
$100 for full gps system.
$5 to integrate carpc into sound system
too easy.
1st, yeah i no could of gone the DC-DC way, but start out the easy way, with the invertor, and i will no doubt find a use for the invertor for other things as well.Quote:

just found the perfect power supply for this application. click here
miniatx + p4 + ram = $150 ???? where you getting your hardware from at that price? ebay secondhand?
Friend has a jaycar trade or something account so get all jaycar stuff on the cheap.
Yeah i have a friend that owns a computer store...but you can find bargains like that second hand, yeah ebay/computer swap meets.
That jaycar powersup is not out yet...ive been waiting eagerly for it...
wow it's been ages since i looked at this..
getting more hardware..
Abit f-190HD ( micro ATX motherboard)
Intel Pentium Dual Core 2Ghz or 2.2Ghz
2GB DDR2 800Mhz Ram
500GB SATA2 Harddrive
Power Supply still to get
a friend did this to his car a while back.. he loved it.. im sure u would too when its finished.. he used an apple computer tho.. cos u can get a really tiny white mac. it was like 4cm x 4cm and the only problem we had with his car was that we had to rip everything off (back seats, rear side panel, and the dash) so the cord for the screen looked unnoticeable.. his car was a bmw mind u.. so it might be easier to do it in a honda.
Or do it properly...

if you read the above post you will notice i already have a 7inch touch screen, as well as that i have listed in my specs that I have a 500GB hard drive, 2GB RAM etc, l will also have the options of more customizing and upgrading with a custom PC, you may think of the G4 as doing it properly, i see it as doing it the expensive lazy way.. but each to there own.
my lilliput motorized single din is slowly dying...lucky its covered by 1 year warranty...
the hardest thing about carpc's is getting a decent screen.
just ordered power supply, DC-DC will give some details when it shows up.
also ordered slot loading dvd drive
Have also completed custom Case :)
installed inside is:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz
Corsair Micro 2GB DDR2 800mhz
Abit Fatal1ty I90HD
500GB SATA harddrive
i've seen an old shitbox with webcams in every window with a few monitors on the inside and a big "i'm watching you" sticker on the rear windscreen.
another friend was gonna insall one in his trans am, not sure if he ended up doin it or not.
as for the G4 type things, they are common in japan. they have all in one satnav/cd/tv/mp3/avi units with like 80gb hard drives.... very cool
helpful site for any one interested in doing carputer www.mo-co-so.com they also have an ebay store.
Received my DC-DC power supply from US today :) it didn't come with instructions/manual but after a quick search i found this site that has links to download the manual/spec's for a few models. (just in case some one needs them later)
Got my slot loading DVD drive will hook them up tonight and see how it all works.
So far have found MMD3 the best winamp skin for 7"inch touch screen, all the buttons are a good size the skin also looks really neat. Although i modded mine a little bit and added a "Honda" touch.. will post screen shot later.
Will also trail media engine as a front end tonight, as it is free and seems to have a good community support.
some pics so far..

more pics coming later. might right a DIY later if there are any requests.
Sure thing SHOGUNOVDDRK, the case is made out of aluminum sheet, purchased at mitre 10, but probable get the same stuff at bunnings cheaper. it's about a 1.2 meter by 1.2 meter sheet ~1.2mm thick (would use 2mm if they had it). and is worth around ~$20. Also used some small nuts bolts and washers from super cheap auto ~$3 pack
all up case would of set me back around ~$40
Was about 5 hours work all up, using a dremel isnt that fast.. lol the hardest part is the folding.
The case was done in a steel etching primer then silver on the front then the blue all over (inside and out). ( I like spray cans there fun :p )
the whole in the top will eventually have some acrylic/perspex with ventilation slots or holes.
I Have already started a new case as i'm not 100% happy with this one and think i can do better now i have all the hardware for PC, and can now work out a better size and dimension for the case.. (lower profile mostly, and better mounting for motherboard, hard drive and power supply).
Will try and write a DIY on the weekend if I have time :)
just some notes.. power supply is working well, and seems to be handling the power requirements of the PC hardware well.. Will have to do a few tests and run the CPU and hard drive at 100% just to make sure.
(When building a CAR PC keep in mind that DC-DC power supplies can get a bit expensive so you might have to limit your hardware to match).
slot Loading DVD/CD-RW drive is great will be easy to mount in an easy to reach place, Its a very compact size and it is solely powered By USB so don't need a extra power lead for it.
Blue tooth USB dongle was ~$10 from eBay and works well, transfered photos from phone with it last night. Wireless USB card is very handy using it to download software updates etc from the net. (i have a wireless ADSL modem/Router at home).
Salute to you guys .... Great jobs here and im so tempting of doing one now... LOL
Hey Dray_Templar, sounds like a cool project, i'll be keeping an eye on this thread! I was considering going down your road, but after playing with the G4, I was hooked.
The G4 is expensive when you look at initial outlay, but if you take time into consideration (which I don't have alot of), the G4 is the cheap option for me. The factors I consider most important for a car PC is noise (I hate fan noise), boot/resume-time (resume from standby has to be as good as a factory HU) and screen/look quality. So far i've found the G4 covers all these very well. But anyway, as you rightly say, each to their own.
The screen and factory look of the G4 was what really hooked me. Before buying the G4, I did extensive research into double din screen options for a car PC, and nothing came close to the G4.
He he, those specs look more like a desktop PC :p What do you plan to do with all that grunt? Incidently, the G4 is upgradable (HDD and Memory).
I'm guessing you already know about Centrafuse (http://www.fluxmedia.net/)? I tested both Streetdeck and Centrafuse, and found CF to be much better.
Good luck with the project!
S.
EuroSteve, thanks for the comments, probable part of the reason for me going the custom way is that I'm a Geek lol work in IT as a trade, so it had to be custom for me, would of kinda been like a custom hot rod builder buying a commodore otherwise..
Yeah i no, it's more of a custom pc specs, and overkill but i had to do it, gave my last pc to my bro for uni, so wanted something i can take out of the car and use aswell... and of coarse there is always the bragging rights hehe.
I must admit that the factory finish is a huge turn on for the G4, But I'm not flash with cash atm, and i have been able to build the carputer over time when i had a little spare cash.. and there's always the learning part and research and fabrication to give me something to do on those boring days.
might try and get it looking semi-factory eventually but will take some time.
I'm not sure about the screen i have its a response brand touch screen (not motorized) and not many people seem to have them , so not sure how it will stand up so will be just a case of try it out and see.
Yeah i spend alittle time on www.mp3car.com so seen centrafuse but was trying to find a decent free alternative.
on a side note made a rough and ready mount for my screen today out of some left over aluminum sheet i had, but think i will have to get some fiberglass or body filler to tidy it up abit. will post some more pics when it;'s day light and I'm not at work.
box fits nice and snuggle under front passenger seat.. can't take engineering credit for that just luck about time i had a little.
for cutting lots of sheet aluminum angle grinder > dremel... not that much easer just that you got through way to many dremel cut off discs.
Case mods:
wasn't happy with the motherboard mounting, the aluminium wasn't stong enough to hold the stand off screws in place with out them the becoming wobble = solution hack an old case that had the mounts for the motherboard built in cut the) bottom out of it and pop rivet it to the base of my custom case, giving the whole case a stronger structure, giving me much better mounts and making the plug facia (no idea on technical name fit a lot better.
Side note: remind me to use an old case not a brand new atec case for this job hehe, a bit to late this time but next time lol
Also installed some power plugs and installed 20amp wire for power and 15amp fuse and holder (my power supply came with 15amp fuse installed, but decided it can't hurt to have anther on closer to the battery.)
Still need to get some perspex or other window type plastic, but hard to get in small county towns. think i might be able to hack a photo frame from the Warehouse (cheap place) that comes with plastic instead of glass. yeah tis dodge welcome to country living!!
scraped the aluminum mount for the screen, took the screen apart and cut it to pieces, and made it fit the dual DIN just nice, :) looks good will take some pics later sometime, test ran the system in the car, powering it off a car jump starter pack, it's coming along really nicely.

Carputer Screen (Response Brand). Modded to fit double DIN
I had a response screen as my first one. It is the same as the 'SUPER' brand screens you see on ebay AFAIK.
my first one broke, i was running it off the unregulated ciggy ligher using the supplied ciggy lighter adaptor.
It fit the DC2 double din area PERFECTLY.
I returned it to my supplier of jaycar products (friend with an Electus account) and he just gave me a new one which i promptly sold when i sold my car.
Since then ive been running the lilliput Gl701 bought from Brash Imports The mororized mechanism stopped working but the screen worked fine if i manually pulled it out.
Im about to send my Gl 701 back to China to get repaired (probably replaced).
After that im not sure what i want to do.
I am very happy with my Cd player right now, but i sure as hell will miss GPS and movies when im bored + the massive music selection and on the fly playlists.
yep i would definately wire it in to regulated power.
pretty sure that was the reason mine died.
run 90% of power leads for caputer today should have it all done soon..
accord 98-02 v6 power leads from battery
hoping to get 4 channel amp late next week, looking at a response brand as they seem to have a reasonable reputation and seem to be good value for.
money (Other Recommendation Greatly appreciated) . (mono-block and sub later down the track).
power for carputer:
positive from battery to carputer
negitive from batter to carputer
Ignition power to carputer [note this is only for the power supply to know when car is on and not, the power supply has a build in timer that starts the carputer a certain amount of time (adjustable via jumpers on power supply) after ignition to stop damage to carputer during engine cranks etc].
lol your setup is very similar to my old one.
The response 4 x 50w is an awesome amp.
I've personally installed 4 or 5 of them.
No problems, good clean power and definate bang for buck.
What gps mouse and software are you using?
No GPS yet.. still have my TOM TOM XL, so not stressing over it, but will get there.
seen a few of the GPS aerials on the same ebay site that i got my PS and dvd/cd drive from probable be the way i go eventually, but that can wait till after i get sound sorted.. no head unit, and no sound from carputer = :(
will sort out the software after that.. pretty sure it will be a case of something that i can get Australian maps for and is easy to use with touch screen.. (sugestions welcome as i will no doubt look this up when i get upto setting up GPS on it).
any experience with the response mono blocks powering subs? pretty sure i will be going earthquake sub and amp.. (mate won't shut up about them hehe probable for good reason). but still would be nice to know if the response mono blocks are on par with there 4 channel.
do you have a new set up? can ya give some specs or pass on any ideas, or tips?
oh hey i might have some stuf fyou are interested in.
I got a spare bu 303 gps mouse and a JVC dvd/mp3 cd head unit, BUT for some reason it hasnt been playing cd's or dvd's, and only the line in works, which has been perfect for me when running my carpc, but now my carpc is out, i need cd functions so i bought a new deck.
got aussie maps and mapmonkey with destinator 3 if u want too.
from what ive heard ALL of the response stuff is rather good including the splits and 12" kevlar sub.
Current set up is out of the car because of POS screen.
but
Screen - Lilliput Gl701
GPS - Bu353
PSU - Opus 150
Computer - Dell Optiplex, p4 2.4ghz, 2gb ram, 100gb HDD boot mounted in orignal case attached to sub/amp box.
Software - Road Runner with Simplistique skin, map monkey with Destinator 3
Audio - Icemat Siberia USB soundcard plugged into 7 port USB hub behind my dash. Plugged into Head unit via aux.
Cabling - 5m vga-vga extender and single 5m USB cable with signal booster for 7 port USB hub.
OLD SETUP
Screen - Response touch screen (died on me, got a new one, never installed it cos changed cars and this car needed a motorized)
GPS - bu303 (got the 353 from a friend, it is slightly faster)
PSU - DSATX - i accidently grounded it on my car chassis and now it gives me the 5 blinking lights of death and im dont know how to fix it, but im sure i can...one day.
Computer - p4 2.0 ghz, mini atx mobo, 2gb ram, 60gb hdd, un enclosed, (had it bolted onto a piece of wood) HDD died when i hit the bumpy roads.
Software - Same
Audio - Same but with different head unit
Cabling - Same.
thanks for the info bungsai, where would be the best place to get he aussie maps for the software.. if it's illegal don't post here though.
have you run a 3.5 HDD or only 2.5? I no that 2.5 will stand up to the bashing of incar.. but just wondering if the 3.5 might cope? thinking i might have to add some more shock proofing to it as it's a 3.5 SATA.
it all depends how you mount it.
I havnt had a problem with my HDD in my optiplex casing.
At all with relatively stiff suspension.
man reading these posts makes me want to get one!
just wondering what operating system is best to use? i mean ur looking off a 7" screen ?? and the problem of shutting down / turning on? do u have to click shutdown all the time?
finally is it possible to get it installed under the drivers seat? (dont wanna put any drills in my baby new car lol)
you run windows XP, but make automatically load what is called a "front end"
ive linked up some pics of what a front end looks like...basically..its customiseable head unit software.

Uh oh...

not exactly the best (id still go for the proper carputer) but if you lazy/stupid then go for this :p
awesome!
what's the name of these software? and are they customisable i.e. can add ur own buttons and custom programs into it?
gotta try this one day! say goodbye to cd's n dvds :)
Alot of people seem to be running XP, a few use linux and a few Macs around the place. the start up and shutdown on mine is handled by the power supply, it has a wire that connect to the ignition, when it gets current PC starts, and when no current shuts down after time period all pretty much automatic.
it's possible to install them pretty much anywhere, but depends on make and model. my car has power driver seat, so not so much room under my driver seat, and my Carputer is slightly bigger than other people use Micro-ATX not ITX. but still fits under front passenger seat.
you could possible use Velcro to hold it in place, thats the plane for mine as i want to me able to take it out easily.
got amp wiring kit yesterday (Rampage 4 gauge, With Display), and started wiring it up, my mate ET_Turbo_dude, has lent me a few of his amps and distribution blocks to get started, wasn't the most expensive wire kit, but should do the job. mounted the Display in the Engine Bay today, and have also wired up rear speakers, will take some pics tonight to share with ya all.

wow impressive man!
i can build the computer easily.. only problem i have is i don't know how to go about installing it into the car
im probably guna buy the double din dash thats available for the civic FD and somehow integrate a screen into it..
im just worried about all the wiring and such :| and power as well.. argh
need to find some tutorials to learn more on this topic as i think this is awesome and fun project i can do in my spare time :D
for power look up M2-ATX... or as first post says www.mp3car.com has great help & hardware. if you have any Q's i'll help out as much as i can.http://i16.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/a9/89/b555_1.JPG
looks like this is all coming together quite nicely for you. top job mate! just curious did you consider removing your glove box and installing the carputer there? coz if you're anything like me you dont really need the glove box. i do use mine, but i cleaned it out the other days and found that basically everything in there i didnt need lol. plus you've got the added option of tapping off the hvac system in your car to cool the carputer too. only problem i see with that is during winter when you use the heater. but i'm sure there's an easy way to overcome this.
Hi thanks for the support, yeah i did consider it for alittle bit, room would of been really tight if it had of fitted at all, would be a really nice place to put it, but kinda like being able to use the glove box, and doing this way will be easer to return the car to factory. if i upgrade some time, also under the seat makes it really easy to take in and out when required.. eg had 100Gig of files to transfer, and didn't want to to it via wireless 2 days just to long. if i had of got the ITX motherboard would of been perfect though, but like all things you have alittle give an take, ITX have mounted CPU's and only have a few options as far as speed go and they can never be changed, nothing compared to the 2.2Ghz core 2 Dou. for a 100% Dedicated Carputer ITX is probable the way togo.. but i love my overkill.
agree air con cooling would of been amazing, overclocked carputer anyone :p
the cpu temp hasn't been a problem yet (crosses fingers) lucky all the new CPU/Mobo have auto shutdown at set temps and it hasn't come close to that yet, movies and mp3's don't use alot of CPU and means CPU don't create so much heat. also an upside to the core 2 duo's run cooler and use less power then the predecessors P4, (not including mobile versions) enough of a rant.. lol
sweet... good to see that you've thought this through properly and not just thrown some money around. top work mate.
hey dray_templar
did you create your own dash to integrate the LCD screen? or purchased double din part?
also a bit curious as it's under the seat - how well are the wires concealed? did u have to rip apart your car (seats and all) or just slide it under the seat and have a few wires hanging around?
sorry for soundin noob lol this project has just recently got me curious :P
Hey ryanc, there good questions of first of my accord came with the double din think it's factory standard, one of the goals of the project was to be able to return it to factory as easily as possible so thats still the original Dash, the integration was abit of fun, i started out making a aluminum frame/ mount for it, but the screen stuck out to far, would of hit my hand on it every time i shifted to PARK so that was scratched, the next attempt was taking 2 screw out of the back of the screen and making up some small brackets to i could screw them in and just have the bottom hanging out the front (as you can see i currently have no buttons at the bottom of the screen), but wasn't happy with it, still nearly hitting my hand when shifting to Park, and it just didn't have the factory feel, next was take the screen apart, and use the angle grinder to cut it to size! the screen that is, i no it sounds abit harsh but its well documented on www.mp3car.com, and the really the only part you cut is the plastic casing it comes in not the actual screen. Then it was just a case of making up a few mounts/brackets out aluminum to hold it in place.
(modes made to car for screen) Unfortunately on the screen i have the cables connect at the bottom of the screen no easy way around that, a small whole was cut to fit cable connector through, the connector also happen to line up with where one of the screws go to hold the fascia to the car, so in the car i had to bend up (should be able to be bend back down latter) the place that the screw goes into to fit the cables. if you need more info or some pics let me know. also used the the dremel to grind a little plastic out so screen fitted better, done at the bottom of the Din facia, at the back, other wise bottom of screen wouldn't quite fit snug.
the wiring isn't to bad under the seat, you have center console to hide wires under, and also under the door/trim kick covers (not sure about the technical name), no modification's to the seat were needed, i didn't even take it out, basically slide it under from back seat, then connect all cables. so it' isn't to bad under there, most of the cable's you can cut to length the other ones you can hide pretty easy, eg if screen cable is to long, hide the extra under center console or behind screen in Din area.
will take a few pics tonight if the rain stops, to try and give you a bit more idea about the cabling.
feel free to ask more Q's
Update: installed Kenwood speakers in the front doors, and wired them up to the second amp (borrowed off et_turbo_dude), so now can either have front or rear sound lmao, need to get more RCA cables and 3.5mm to RCA convector plugs, it's getting close the point were i need to decided if i'm just going to run stereo or 5.1 sound hmmm not sure yet.. guess good thing about running it off pc i should be able to switch between stereo and surround on the fly..
quick one for you audio guru's does it matter if i run 3.5mm to the boot then convert to RCA, or should i convert it to RCA asap eg as close to sound card as possible?
was kinda funny thought my stock speakers wern't to bad, no i'm wondering how the hell i didn't blow them, there some no-name Mexico 15watt speakers.. hmmm anyone know much about them?
Just about all set up to install 4 channel Response amp, and mono block, hopefull get the Response amp and new distribution blocks, end of this week.
get he RCA's happening asap.
Shielded cables will prevent unwanted noise entering your system and 3.5mm cables wont be shielded very well compared to good quality RCA's.
More than likely you will have to run a ground loop isolator due to poor grounding of your computers motherboard.
BTW, i also recommend running your sound through a head unit.
I've done it both ways, and just preferred using the head unit as the audio controller (analog-ally) rather than using the computer.
Thanks again for your advice bungsai, was thinking the the Same thing about the RCA having alot better shielding.
Running sound straight from onboard sound atm, it's not to bad, not going to win any comps with it, but still not to bad for my needs. might try running it though a head unit abit later, have to get my own amp etc first.
again thanks bungsai
no worries mate, its good to see a another person battling through carpc's too you seem to be doing a pretty damn good job!
that skin is called Crystal Blue and is for road runner.
I used road runner cos its free and has plenty of aftermarket support and skin developers on the mp3car.com community.
If you have some basic programming skills and graphic design skills, it is very very easy to make skins for road runner. Ie, a fully customizeable head unit. You even get to choose the, buttons, visualizations, fonts, everything.
Takes a lot of patience thats all.
:) It's a fun project and well worth battling through for the results, even though it's not finished pretty happy with where it's heading. There's been a little more to it than i first thought, but nothing to hard to overcome.
Thanks again for the info, i will download it tonight and have a look at it, downloaded centrafuse the other day it's nice but way 2 $$ for what it is, also had a look at media engine seems pretty sweet, limit skins for it so far but not to hard to mod. Will defiantly have a look at road runner.
Got 2 RCA splitters at lunch time and some cables have both front and rear running, nice to have full sound back. next job is take out stoke rears speaker and install some jaycar ones i have lying around.
http://a204.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...e52447b8b3.jpg
Got the Response AMP tonight, will be tomorrows install project
best choice. evar. for this project on a budget.
Keep at it mate.
Downloaded roadrunner, very impressed with it so far, very well layed out, and easy to use.. will try it with that crystal blue skin tonight after amp install :)
Ordered my 12" sub today, should have it on Tuesday :) will finally have some decent base
http://www.earthquakesound.com/IMAGE...emorx_view.jpg
Grr just found out there out of stock and won't be in untill next month not happy, arh well ordered a second one so least i will be able to put them both in when i get them..
received my 3x (gold plated plugs 3 meter 3.5mm to RCA leads Today) From Ebay.http://i16.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/be/e3/4515_1.JPG
so will be able to have a play with surround sound tonight, and see if i will use it or just go with the stereo..
Took stock 6x9's out of rear and install Jaycar 6x9's there 45WRMS 3 way i think.. not that impressed with them but will do until after i get subs sorted.
Update: Set up surround sound, it's pretty cool seems to be working well. not sure what to use for front center speaker.. any suggestions?
Installed Roadrunner, works great so far, but modded it a little will post pics later .
dray, can you tell me how to overcome the power supply of yr setup? have a computer really but not sure using cig power or direct fm front. also thinking the pike start voltage issue. yr help would be greatful
He is using a device called an M2 ATX. It wires into the car like an amp (power, remote and ground) and then provides output in the form of a normal computer power supply which you then plug into the motherboard/hdd.
Others to look at are the
DSATX
M2ATX
Opus 150
Opus 200
I'm running power straight from battery, with a 15amp fuse close to the battery, as far as i no, the cig light will be fused allready but don't think it will handle the current the pc will draw, and i wouldnt want to try it, as it will most likey blow the fuse, and if you put a larger fuse in might start melting wires nope not good.
Run some 20amp or higher wire from your battery to the Carpc, with a fuse as close the battery as possible.
Have you allready got the power supply for the carpc? if it's bigger than the m2-ATX you might want to use even larger wire..
The pic has to red wires in it the large 4gage is for the amps and sound system.. the smaller one is for the carpc, it has a fuse in a black holder (from dicksmith electronics), this runs from the battery to the carputer.
if you need anymore help please ask, :D

Going to be centre speaker for surround sound
http://a427.ac-images.myspacecdn.com...e0685e6ab2.jpg
Your set up is looking great man!
You mentioned you are going to use a center speaker for your surround sound. Where would you put this, I don't think I've ever heard of having a center speaker in a car! Such a cool idea. I'm guessing it will be mounted under your PC screen?
I'm in the process of installing a car PC as well and I'm also using Jaycar amps. I will post pics once it is done.
Good work and gratz on the car PC, I'm very impressed.
btw I don't think I've ever seen anybody change their avatar as many times as you have heh.
will go pretty close to where it is in the pic, there is enough room to make up a mount and fit it in the cavity beind where it is in the pic, it only a 4" but most front centers are small even in home theater, normally just voices etc in movies. watched a movie tonight in car (while parked), and had some voices missing putting it down to not having front center connected, will check tommorow but if it was then def need front center.
Edit: I'm running full 5.1 sound.. but waiting on sub to arrive (paid for) and gotta get energetic to make mount for center front.

Good luck with carputer good to see more people doing it, get a few weird looks when people see it, and few others go fark build me one.. but loving it so far..
normally don't change my avatar that often, but when I do i can't decide and change it a few times lol.. didn't think anyone noticed hehe nice work..
looking forward to seeing your pics :).. any progress shots?
