DIY: Clutch Master Cylinder (Replace)

Aim: Replace your worn and probably leaking clutch master cylinder.
Required: Pliers, New cylinder, Socket set, Vice grips, bleed kit, syringe.

Steps:

1. Get under your car and look for your clutch pedal, If you got a clutch fluid in your car (Arrow) your need a new master cylinder. Now that ur going to replace it, take a closer look at your clutch pedal (Square)

2. At the top or ur pedal u will notice a 10mm golt pin [2]. Using your pliers, remove the clip going through it [1] and push the pin out [2] thus releasing your pedal from the master cylinder. Once this is done, loosen the bolts holding the master cylinder to the fire wall [3]

3. Outside the car, using a syringe, suck out any clutch fluid you can. Then unclip the hose that leads from the resivour to the master cylinder. Remove this FROM the MASTER CYLINDER (next steps picture, marked with an arrow) and using vice grips, clamp the hose to prevent leaks.

4. Remove the nut that holds hose on the top of the cylinder, and remove the hose.

5. Undo the bolts from the inside that hold your master cylinder and put in the new one. Dont tighten the bolts up yet

6. Reatach both hoses onto the new master cylinder. U may need to move the cylinder around (why you left it loose) to get that nut in there.

7. Now tighten the bolts that hold the cylinder to your firewall.

8. Put the pin through your pedal and master and dont forget the clip.

I noticed my master cylinder was leaking the other day.

Incase anyone is interested and needs to find a master cylinder for their car I found these links which will give you the part number.

tried to do this, it was hard no room, i end taking to the mechanic......

x2 my problem atm, being a giant doesnt exactly make it easier, may remove seat, lol

also, southside honda up here in Brisbane had great prices on OEM gear. Paid about $170 for master and slave :)

i did this not so long ago. hardest part was removing the old cylinder out and installing the new one in cause the hard brake/clutch lines are the way. you really gotta play with it for a while, slightly bending the lines.

what a f**king mission lol. i would advise people with large-ish hands and bodies to be prepared for some pain when completing this lol. i ended up taking 3 hours for this, slave cylinder and oil change, with most of the time taken up removing the initial pin at the start.


i would also strongly advise for you to have a *decent* socket set, as i had to catch a cab to autobarn halfway thru to pick up a socket extension tool lol

so far, i'm very impressed with the OEM Honda oil and filter too!

guys , a flare nut spanner is NEEDED. 10mm to be exact , to loose the master cylinder line off the master clyinder without rounding it. Also , a 12mm long nose socket , a universal joint and an extension are a muse when taking out the 2 x nuts holding the clutch master. on.

is the clutch master the same for LHD and RHD?
