I've bought a K&N filter for my 06 Civic and basically, just trying to figure out how to install it and what things I need to think about when installing it. My cousins said it would make my car smoother so I'm quite eager to try it out.

never installed one on a 06 civic before, but it ain't hard, prboably 10 mins to change it

im not familiar with the 06's, but its a simple matter of opening the airbox where the filter is housed, and simply swapping it over... should be pretty easy mate...
Implications... it might be a little louder, as such you will want to get into the motor more, which will mean youll go through more petrol... thats all i can think of...

The reason I asked is because I remember reading on one of the int'l forums (not sure which one) that the Civic06 had a difficult to change air filter because of the box or design or something... and thought I'd ask on OH just to see if there's anything I need to watch out for.
Also wondering how changing the air filter will impact on my Honda warranty/servicing...
If it's just a panel filter it'll be easy. If you bought a pod then you need brackets and heatshields.
Only implication I can think of is the mass air flow sensor being fouled by the filter oil, since your Civic is a VTi-L (same with VTi). The Sport is fine.
It's just the filter.
As for the filter oil.. not quite sure what you're talking about with relation to the sport. I know this filter was designed for my Civic FD 1.8 (according to the packaging) and it comes factory oiled according to the plastic bag.
Yup, I know it is made for your 1.8L, but while previous honda engines used a manifold pressure sensor, your R18a engine uses both the manifold pressure sensor and an mass airflow meter. If you find that you are losing power or throttle response down the road, then you might have to check if the oil from the filter has coated the air flow sensor.
Finally installed it. It feels like.. it's going well. The delay when you put foot down seems to be less, and the car feels more willing to rev/speed up than it did before.. but it could all be in the mind? >< Overall quite pleased.
Btw if any of you guys installed one of these before.. did it make a weird noise when you first installed it? Like for me, I started car and thought.. is my amp screwing up 'coz sounded like speakers crackling.. then I thought sounds a bit like when you have a new air conditioner unit and left the plastic over the air vent... but then.. after I drove around a bit, the noise went and the car felt smoother. Is that normal?
Also... on the sticker it says to reoil every 50000/100000 miles.. that's like.. a pretty huge range (as in.. the first number is HALF the second number?!).. any ideas?..Also Is it difficult to reoil or can I just go to like autojoy to get that done (since I know they sell/install them).

You're meant to wash it using the cleaning kit. Let it dry and then spray the oil on to the filter. Do it when it is dirty, say every 40,000 or 50,000km.
Wow.. 40000? Some dude today at motoquipe said I need to do it every 5000km or so!
So the final words from the experts. Will there be any problems installing a K&N air filter on an Australian Civic Sport?

In my opinion, if you want a K&N filter, go for it. The only implications are a slightly oily intake arm and maybe after 5-8 years, a gummy throttle body (which you clean anyway after around 100,000km with a $5 can of throttle body cleaner spray). But I'd rather stick to the OEM honda panel as the K&N doesn't give much improvement for your money.
If it doesnt do anything, then i wont get it. I read somewhere that it improves your fuel consumption and gives you an extra 20-40km on a full tank. Is this true? If so, then maybe its a positive and worth getting. Other than that, id probably save my money and contribute to a sound system or 18".
Called up about 5 autobarn stores in Melbourne and none stock the K&N panel filter for the Civic Sport. They have to order it in and its around $130. Anyone know where else I can pick one up from in Melb?

Sorry mate, can't help you with the Sport. I bought mine in Malaysia for around $90aud. There are some crappy shops in Sydney which will import it for $180! What a jip.

I noticed no difference with a panel filter, but a major difference with a Cold Air Induction pipe to the front quarter panel, and a larger filter stuck on the end. Much better midrange torque, especially on a B series engine (not so much different on a D series I noticed)
Is he going up near Sepang? That's where all the car tuners go to test their cars out (refer to my photos!) and there are plenty of car tuning shops nearby. Is your friend a local? If not, you might be better off going to Singapore as they tend to be easier to understand. Make sure you provide him with the correct part number to buy so he can check it against the item they try to sell him. If u want exact area to go to (warning: this area is not well suited to non-locals) then PM me and I'll get it for u asap from my cousins.

I dont know if theres any power gain, but the sound is much smoother.
im only demonstrating the difference. Im not sure if it will do the same with our models, but i hope it does, fingers crossed. But then again, im looking to get CAI for my sport
