hey guys, i DIY'd a full sound system (HU,subs,amp,speakers) and everything worked fine, BUT, i recently changed the HU to a crappier one and now when i change from tuner to cdplayer (vice versa) it makes a loud *pop pop! from the subs irrespective of the volume setting..
i think maybe the RCAs make be in the wrong slots, but i want to be sure thats the problem (its a bloody hassle to get to the HU) or could it be the HU itself?!?
happend to me but my rca cables to my headunit was loose. so try tighten it up, worked for me :thumbsup:
hey dude does it sound like theres a screw loose and its "jumping" off the sub each time the bass hits?
if thats what it sounds like id say your sub is gone, im in the process of getting a new sub put in because it dropped a voice coil and it was making a pop pop noise
it doesnt make that sound with a diff HU, so i think the subs are ok.Quote:

Hey mate,
its your amp. Cheaper amps have that, if you try swapping it one day to a high end brand it wont make that sound, unfortunately you cant do anything about it. I lived with my jaycar one for 1 yr before i ripped it out - no more pops!

it was the rca.. not fixed, but it's quieter now.
it's either the amp or deck... but since its a rockford, they have proper powering delays to prevent the pop therefore its your "new crappy deck". i'm guessing your amp is remotely turned on via wiring to the decks antenna wire? their not surge protected on cheap decks as they really are meant for just the power antennas
hi guys... got the similar problem here... but it pop pop when i was on the road after quite a long time and a bumpy road as well... it gets better now since i swap the HU to a much better one... but it still happens sometimes...
any other suggestion?
check the ground cable. im guessing its either that or a split wire coming from the amp to the sub
is it just the sub or the speakers too?+
the subs popping and the speakers also got static noise... as well but still not that bad..

that happens in my home stez sometimes, you either have speakers that are shit or to much power going to them, well thats what i was told, i fixed mi9ne by turning the amp down... no more sssssssssssssssssssssssshhhhhhh...
popping noise when turning on and off usually is because bad grounding. check your ground to see whether its on bare metal
What headunits are being used in both cases?
My money would be on it being you both have Pioneer headunits and have blown the rca tracks in the headunit, hence the popping sound when you turn the headunit on/off and switch between radio and Cd.
What you need to do now is run the RCAs from your amp to your mates CD player in his car....if the noise stays, its the amp, if the noise disappears, its the headunit OR if you are lucky just the RCA cable.
I'd still try the RCAs from your amp to another car.
Noise stays = amp issue (turn on/off circuit)
Noise goes = headunit issue.
Just because you paid someone to do it, doesn't mean its a pro job.
check all the grounding including the HU grounding as well...
