They weigh less, and most have funky vents to keep the engine bay cooler :)
Not sure about price or where to get em
be careful if you get one that is particularly stiff!
some manufacturers get out making them cheaply by using a lot of resin and not much carbon fibre matting..
meaning they are fragile and break easily!
i don't really see the point of a c/f bonnet. my bro has one on his sky and only thing i can see to it is that it flaps crazily when going at *hint* speeds. u'll need to get bonnet pins
be careful not to crack the CF when istalling pins too!
definitely! LMAO bit too much force and a long crack appears :o hahahah...Quote:

Changing your hood to a CF hood really is for weight reduction, but for the street they're a great look esp on a white or light color car.
whiteQuote:

The best color for a CF hood is White :D
i think they look their best on a white car..

on the topic of....
who are the best suppliers/manufacturers of CF bonnents in Oz?
I get mine from Motorware, they advertise in Hot4s. The quality is pretty good, but their not super strong like the ones advertised in the states with a guy jumping on the bonnet...
Almost all CF hoods are imported from the states, don't know of any place in Aust that actually produces CF hoods for Honda's.
CF hoods go for $800-$1000.
Heya yonnas
Dunt fink u know me.. but ive seen u at the runs acouple of times with kevin. (CRO-00L)
I owned that green civic =)
benefits of a cf bonnet = lightweight
legality? = none
most aftermarket carbon bonnets come out from the u.s
cf looks good on blue to ;)

good quality CF hoods do wonders in terms of extra steering responsiveness, turn-in (sharper) and less load on the front end of the car..hence a MARGINALLY (arguable) acceleration....and the GT factor plays a role too....
cheers
Hmmm... that pic looks a bit out of date A.C.S. Drag
Yeah it does...
That fridge on the front looks familiar...
I don't know how much a CF hood would do in terms of steering responsiveness, turn-in, removing the aircon would do the same thing in terms of weight reduction.
Also at high speed you need to have hood pins just incase the thing flies open.
If you get a CF hood with a vent, temp reduction in the engine would be a good benefit esp with turbo cars.
Ok ok, its an old pic but i dont have any new ones at the moment, and yes that intercooler has found a new home in a nice civic coupe.
In which a gurl drives....
You have to say the CF bonnet looks better on the white CRX :P

hehehe, another fridge!
I love those Buddyclub's...
and a small chiller on the side ;)
Um, who gave you permission to post ACS material? that picture is copyrighted.
yeah, does look good, cause its my bonnet, lol.
For street puroses a CF hood is only good for looks unless u plan on drag and track thre's not much of a point in it
they cost roughly ard 800-1000, and main purpose as outlined b4 is weight reduction. But then again if you had 800-1000 your better off throwing the money into sum mods or suspension.
oh if anybody offers sumone a cheap price CF hood, i wouldn't take it as sed previously its just carbon fibre weave on top of a (i think) fibre glass hood. Plus it can be dangeroud due to the fact that it doen't have the crumple factor. Most likely break off from the hinges and fly into the cabin of the car.
I've heard stories where guys with CF hood's have been in accidents and the hood (due to being so stiff) had cut straight through the A-pillar and killed the passenger and driver.Quote:

They can be dangerous, if you get one, be aware of the risks!
That's why someone should produce aluminium bonnets like my cappa's hood.... even lighter :)
:P
what r pins used for? :)
The bonnet pins are used to hold both sides of the bonnet to the car giving it more strength than just having the bonnet latch holding it down and also making it safer too.
There like the ones you see on bonnets of race cars.
Regards,
James.
there goes my plan for one on my ride!!
didn't even think there were risks involved!!
i have them and they are a pain in the ass to install!Quote:

They are price at around $700-$800 and I know a few places in Melbourne which stock them. However I've got a mate whose been defected by the coppers because apparently you are not allowed to have air vents on your CF hood facing the driver.Quote:

Not exactly safe ;)
defected coz air vents on your cf hood facing the driver? did that cop pull something out of his ass or what?
if u want the look just spray ur bonnet black for $200 ;) i was thinkin of doin that it'll look pretty good :)
My ride is the same color

make sure u dont get one that fades..
and if you are really after quality make sure its a full carbon fibre bonnet.,. non of this fibre galss with a layer of carbon...
you want the frame (structure) to be made of carbon fibre..
something about if ur engine caught on fire and coming out of the vents because its facing the driver u could get hurt :S... so if it was facing the other way it would make everything honkydory.. or something like that someone once told me was the cops excuse..
wtf this thread is like 2 years old
i was lead to believe you dont need bonnet pins for them unless your circuit or going at really high speeds like .
otherwise they are more of a showy thing.
Full CF hood is very expensive, not to mention illegal.Quote:

if you plan to track or high speeds .. recommend pins.
and they arent legal bonnets... some insurance comapny allow you to have it on but dont cover it.
remember people. safety first
most bonnets around here arent full CF.. just a few layers of it.
yeh make sure u put pins on cause right now...ive got one and when i hit high speeds the lights start to go on..
but yes the are illegal :D
I'm all for CF, but how much weight reduction are we looking at here? How much does and oem bonnet weigh compared to the CF? I can't believe this hasn't been previously asked...
it has been discussed....many times, search and you'll find it allQuote:
