hey..
i have a b16a and use to get about 380-400kms out of a tank with a lil vtec. After adjusting my tappets, servicing, and all changing all belts except timing belt i seem to only be able to squeeze about 300kms out of a tank,thats no vtecing aswell.
if i adjusted the tappets wrong will this cause the car to consume more petrol? can someone guide me in the right direction pls cause the fuel consumption is really killing me.

Have you noticed a dramatic change in performace (good or bad)?
yea diy
not much performance difference
but engine is a little quieter

possible you adjusted the tappets wrongly? Did you follow the exact factory specs? leave something loose/unattached whilst reinstalling the rocker cover? need more info
What clearance did you set it to?
are you sure its not a fuel gauge problem lol...how low are you running your tank down to ? i get 550km out of my b16a (thats driving it till it starts to cut out lol) and my engine has about 250,000kms and ticks like crazy :P
lol freek, dude i run my tank till im on like flat E and only get 350 if im lucky, i use to be able to get 400kms out of a tank. ive looked at everythin but car just seems to drink fuel like a bitch
my engine is quite old and ticks like a mofo aswell..
thats why i adjusted my tappets in hope of ticking going away..but now my fuel is terrible..
i adjusted the tappets to 0.006inch on inlet and 0.007 inch on exhaust.
so will adjusting the tappets wrong create an increase in fuel consumption?

yeh very bad problem you have there..
you should be getting average 280-300 when the needle is exactly on halfway..
checked your 02 sensors?
i think the problem is on something else - not the tappets too :)
But did you adjust the tappets when the engine was COLD ?
Have you ever adjusted the tappets before ? Made sure the rocker arm was secure ?
Tried a ECU test to see if a sensor somewhere is faulty ?
ALSO - are your TYRES low on air pressure ? This can be a common thing for more consumption...
did u reset your ecu after adjusting the tapets?

mine does the same thing im currently sitting on half a tank and clocked 210 kms? its being weird im using and have always been using bp ultimate 98 octane. it used to do about 250kms when i was sitting on half a tank im going to try reset my ecu tomorro. i know theres a DIY on how to reset the ECU but should i do it when my engine is cold or when its warmed up?
no i havent reset my ecu, i get about 180-200 on half and after that it just dissapears..ive done the tappets several times..how do i check my o2 sensors?cause i was thinking that might be the problem and my revs seem to jump alot, sometimes it seems like its gonna stall

did you do the conversion ?? are all your vacuum lines correct ?
Did you do any other work apart from the tappets?
Maybe they're not closing fully. Might have done them up too far. I'd go back and double check man. :thumbsup:
tight tappets could cause performance problems, never really left them out of spec enough to find out it if affect fuel economy as it will burn out a valve or something.
was your engine stone cold when you adjusted the tappets, aslo did you rotate the crank shft to TDC for each cylinder before you adjusted the tappets.
yes engine was stone cold,
and yes the crank was at tdc,
engine was in the car when i got it,
all vacuum lines seem to be intact,
but i will check for leaks cause a b16 should get atleast 450kms
im not getting anything near that
Yeah got the same prob. It seems to be taking more fuel. Car is running smoother, but idle is funny. I got mine done at the mechanics.
Anyone with any other thoughts?

BTW i've just reset my ECU also to see if it fixes up the problem.
I also get a werid idle now after adjustments.
I got mine done at Hannys so i am assuming they know what they are doing.
P.S no other mods have been done in the short time
my B16A can only get 350-400 kms out if a full tank, sometime even less ...... ( most are freeway driving too )
