Lose weight, or as ive said before, dont waste time and money trying to make a performance car out of a reliable daily driver.... thats not what it was built for, enjoy it for what it is
its hard too when u wanna thrash it every so often. probably a cold air intake, chrome intake manifold is a good starting point. then move onto stuff like rebuild head
or sell the civic n get a car that's better suited to be modded...seriously, if u want performance, the new civic is not really a good choice to start...plus u can't really use much of all those power gains on the streets (as for daily driving), unless u go to track;)
- k&n pod filter
- some sort of piping that will deliver cold air to the filter
- fullway exhaust
- extractors
- removing spare tyre & jack for lighter weight =p
goodluck ... simple stuff n its cheap :]
turbo it.
dont touch it man, **** me... its not a car geared for performance
i am kinda in the same boat. do you think its not worth spending like maybe what, $1k on extractors, CAI, maybe a rebuild and some other misc shit compared too putting it towards a better car??
i mean mines prob 60kw atw (EK1 GLi), pushing it too something like 80 or 90 wouldn't be feasible?
lol... shouldve waited and got the new type R or just got an ITR.
suspension mods and some good tyres! then go mt. !!
The following should do the trick:
1. extractors - ceramic coated for better heat insulation
2. cat back exhaust (+ sports cat) - bigger piping means better flow
3. aftermarket muffler
4. panel filter or pod filter with heatshield + box
5. or maybe SRI (with heatshield) or CAI
You should feel a difference
its a civic....u car wont' turn into an gtr overnight.
i dont think hes trying too turn it into a racecar, but ya know u want too do your cheap and easy mods without rebuilding the block
get an aftermarket intake
get an aftermarket set of headers/extractors.
get an aftermarket muffler (or full catback if you want to)
it should sound nice and have a bit more pep then it used to.
Either that or spend your money on a rear sway bar, lowering springs and some descent tyres and you'll enjoy the stock power alot more.
if he had money to burn he shouldve bought a car with performance intentions
my 2c
u dont buy a civic if u want to go fast :p
lol but seriously minor mods will net u only a very small gain and will not be extremely cheap coz its a new car. dont want to jeopardise warranty either...
ide either leave it or go all out :)
Mods won't work well because:
1. His headers are 1 piece with the head! You can't replace them without cutting them off the head.
2. He has 2 cats, the 1st is integrated with the header. So if he uses a highflow cat for the 2nd cat, the 1st one is still restricting flow.
3. Only for sound. No performance increase.
4 & 5. He can't use CAI or SRI because he'll get a CEL from the MAF sensor. Best is a panel filter (which doesn't give any appreciable gain anyway).
nos bratha
lol

i didnt realise/read he had a new civic! my bad
reverse sensors are good, they add teh kilowattz wen u reverze lol
weight reduction, simple and cheap.
plugs
turbo
head work
how cheap is cheap? u wanted about 20-30 extra kw atw?
ur not gonna get an extra 20kw atw with bolt-ons thats for sure... and if u do, maybe IHE bolt-ons plus ECU tune will get u that, but be prepared to pay maybe $3k or more for decent stuff...
for that money, the easiest solution to go fast is a bolt-on turbo or supercharger kit.
1. Since the first cat is restricting flow, adding a free-flowing muffler (or a catback) won't give gains since it is already restricted by the first cat. Also, the first cat is not a regular cat, but used to tie down unburnt hydrocarbon when the engine is first started cold.
2. Gains will be small because there isn't a full ecu capable of adding in more fuel. He'll have to rely on something like the VAFCII (if it works with the R18a).
for dollar per KW, guess it's turbo.
if you're planing to order from overseas please get 2 sets and i'll buy 1 off ya
I have had a cat back exhaust put on my FD1 and its nothing but a head ache and attracts cop attention, just makes noise no power difference.
Removed it after i hit 127db @ 5500 rpm and got defected.
I have a drop in K&N panel filter in, but thats made ZERO differnce, you cant hear it or feel it... i didnt expect it to make more power but i thought it would make a bit of noise..
IMHO dont bother with the power hunt on the VTi or VTi-L coz the VTEC works to save petrol unlike the traditional manner.
Just make it look pretty and handle tight
