hey guys, i got a 95 civic running a b18c2 bottom end and the 1.6 twin cam head. im not sure weather to bolt on a 2.0L type R head to it and run the works or weather to keep the 1.6 head and work that? i have been told the 1.6 has more comp and better flow. is it a straight bolt on conversion? and will there be much increase in power? thanks.
U didnt happen to buy a red eg did u? anyways what u got is poors men type R setup which is very good already, and there is not a such thing as 2.0 typeR head for a b series anywaysQuote:

Compression is KNOWN to be higher when using a 1.6L head.
There have also been a few articles that have proved this incorrect.
there is a 2.0L type R head but it doesnt fit your motor.
isnt there a b20. yeh i heard the 1.6L head has better compression then the b18c, but wouldnt a b16a head be better off then the head from an eg si? im alittle confused about this to.
b20 would be the block.

a motor has 2 main components. a Head(top half) , and Block(bottom half). You can take one block and put head from another motor as long as its from the same motor family. ie: Kfamily, B family, or D family
ie: you can have a B18c block and head. (standard)
or you can have a B18 block with B16 head.
B20 blocks usually go with B16a head.. The head is swapped because the B16/B18 has Vtec. (B20 head doesnt have Vtec)
same with K series motors. K20A, or K24A
you can have a K24A with a K20A head..
theres tonnes more technical information and all you gotta do is READ and SEARCH. hope that helps,

OK, so as you can see, the amount of airflow difference is minimal (and thats a p72 B18C2 head vs a pr3 B16 head) But you gotta wonder if the heads are tested on a flowbench.
check this site out to give you real specifics..
if you just throw a B16 head on a B18C you'll lose compression.

wow nice comparison. So what do you have now? b16a head on b18c2 bottom end? I've heard compression is the same, not any higher. The type R head and b16a head physically look the same, its only the internals that different.

Ｔｈｅ b18c2 vtir heads have a better downdraft and it more ideal for higher comp. I doubt u feeel anything at stock or semi stock levels.
use the b20 head and you would have a crv haha
hey also would anyone know the difference in the b16a and the ba18c2 head. by looking at them both what is difference?. i have herd that they both look the same only difference is that the b16a head is closed chamber? is there anything else to keep an eye out for? thanks:thumbsup:

For maxium power out of your car i suggest you put on a v6 head out of the new commodores. It has alloytech and will give you heaps of torque from the compacity increase.
The combustion chamber designs are probably the most noticable difference between the two heads. The P72 (B18c) head has much larger quench pads so the chamber isnt a full circle compared to the PR3 (B16a)Quote:

The larger quench area on the P72 chamber prevents detonation and increases combustion efficiency, the smaller chamber also gives a higher compression ratioQuote:
