DC2R 1999 (less k's) vs 2000 (more k's) - Which would you go for?

G'day all,

Looking at getting a DC2R (yellow) and just doing the research rounds atm.

Looking through carsales et al. to see what's available + checking Redbook for model info etc. and had a couple of questions regarding a couple of examples I've found, and get your thoughts on which one you'd get.

Currently I'm looking at:

- 1999 DC2R w/93,000km @ $21,990
vs.
- 2000 DC2R w/127,000km @ $18,990(seems low).

I'm keen to gather as much intelligence about this as I can to make the 'best' choice.

IMO, Car A with low Ks need not necessarily be better off than Car B with high Ks. Car A may have been abused day in and day out whereas Car B may have clocked the Ks mostly thru granny-style driving.

At the end of the day, the safest way is to look over both cars carefully and better yet, send them for a compression test, etc.

check em out. Hard to judge before you look and drive.

Also, although its unlikely, it is very easy to change the cluster in a type r, or any car for that matter. Make sure you check out the logbook. If it doesn't have one, might be bit dodgy.

Most ppl who have type r's look after em and are pretty fussy about servicing. But if the seller knows alot about his wheels, might just mean his servicing himself. Ask as many questions as possible and try to suss out the situation.

gd luck with the purchase. Buy a gd one and you won't regret it.

Although the yellow DC2R w/yellow Recaros is the dream, I must admit I have always admired the white DC5R's out of the corner of my eye. Something else to throw into the mix. :)

Hey man, just a thought for you.

The 00 model has done it's 100k service (big $$$), whereas you buy the 99 and you will be up for it in the next few months, if not weeks.

120k on an 00 model r is not bad anyway, if it was the diff b/w one with 40k and one with 200k, but it's only a year's driving between them.

Although, as the oither guys said, I would be going for the one which feels better! good luck

14 k is cheap, with your choices on the car i recommend u cheak both as g_vtec stated car a could've been fanged around but low km's and have issues but thats just an assumption should cheak both out and see witch one is a better drive no stuffed up bushes and not heavy in damages once its in a crash very easy to tell good luck

god i wish DC2R's were this cheap when i was looking for a car!

hahhah man make sure u dont mix DC2 and DC5 into the consideration of which one to get if u are the kind of guy which will easily regret abt decisons and making one.

:) cos they both diff and great cars and so u gotta ask ur heart, not ur head. (after all, who can blame u for liking a CW type R? I think its a magical combination)

Mate, if I listened to my head, I wouldn't even be considering either of them. :) I already have a perfectly good car (mint condition, good fuel eco., reliable as a rock) just that it has no get up and go. Also, getting a loan for the thing will set me back a bit financially. Despite all this, the heart is winning the fight bigtime and I'm just waiting for the knockout punch.

At the moment the daydreaming has set in, imagining myself driving both, and he said it was GOOD.

As for DC2R vs DC5R, my main concern with the DC2R (apart from the added age) is the additional road noise. I realise you don't drive these machines to be enveloped in a cocoon of luxury, but I just want to know that if I'm taking a long drive somewhere (which I like doing) that my ears aren't going to bleed as a result. I know the DC5R is not 'quiet' by any means but from what I can tell, they are a tad quieter/refined.

I suppose one way to avoid buyer's remorse is to not get either of them. :)

I agree that the DC2R is quite noisy in the cabin, but its not that bad, and after a few long drives your completely used to it. Well at least thats how i found it.....the DC2R is a roar car and the trade off for that is a bit of cabin noise, but hey when its revving off its **** in v-tec around a track its worth it.

Not an easy decision, i reckon you test drive as many as possible and then decide after a very well thought out process. Ultimately you have to be happy with the car, its your decision.......

make sure u check REVS and shit too :/

if the 2000 model with 127,000 k's is in sydney and there is no pic on the net for it, then don't waste ur time.it has been in the floods, still has water in the bak seats and 6 different colour yellow panels.if it's not then disreguard

haha sorry but i bought that DC2R the yellow one...i work within the car group so i got it over everyone else and i paid 19,600 for it....for the record it is the most immaculate car ive eva seen, one owner full service history....such a beautiful car

Not wanting to nick you in the head, but I think they're both high. I just got my 2003 DC5R with 59kms for $25k. The DC2s, while quick are starting to show their age in my opinion. I've always been wary of cars with over 100,000kms anyway. Especially something such as an ITR.

Check out RedBook on the cars. It's generally pretty spot on.

on the surface, i'd rather get the one with higher km's. its 3 grand cheaper, and plus your gonna be set back another 1k for 100k service.

other than that, just look at the actual condition of each one, and how they are mechanically. if the same, i'd so hit the higher km's one.

i wouldn't which one at the momemnt with the given information as there is not enough information to make a judgement. But from the information provided i would go with the higher km one.

You would also need to check on the condition of the car inside out and compare which one is better. Moreover you should check the clutch as the reason for sale may be a worn out clutch and the condition of the recaro seats.

Also you should compare the rego due date with the two cars.

Personally with the kms that are showing on some dc2r's at the moment, i wouldnt pay more then 20k.

They are an awesome car, one of the best i have ever driven and owned. But they are not that fast. Very agile but not fast. Do a search on my name and check out the mods i had in my old one. If its a stretch financhially to buy one then i would say forget about modifying it. You could easily spend half the price of the car and it only gain around 20-30kw.

Budget around a grand and spend that on getting the car you decide upon fully checked out. Engine, suspension, bushes, gearbox, the whole nine yards. They are tough little cars but not unbreakable. Especially now that most of them are approaching 100k in milage.
