What type of feel are you going for? NA or Turbo, expect more fuel consumption from both vs your dc2r but the dc5r if kept out of vtec wont empty your wallet excessive amount compared to the dc2r obviously, but boost vs na, fuel consumption will be a bit more as well as insurance etc etc, In the end its what ever car makes you happy imo. Gl hope that gave some kinda insight :P Imo keep the dc2r :)
why do you want to change from the dc2r?
what do you want out of a car?
seems like he is after more power, I would go fd rx7 if I had a choice cos you rarely see them compared to DC5-R/S
for a tad over 30k you can find an s2k, which i rekon would be a lot more fun than the cars that you've listed. just an option thrown in there for you.
ive seen a few go for around ~32k which isnt that bad. good luck
From a DC2R, don't bother with the DC5R as it is pretty similar.
Evo FTW
wouldnt bother with dc5r since ur driving a dc2r
rx7 are great lookin, but don't expect cheap maintenace, and good fuel mileage
lol
.
id keep the dc2 r, unless you decide to get the fd rx7........they are a hot car, but maybe not for a daily..........they are a c%nt to maintaine, my bro has fc rx7, always got dramas with it, (he does drift it) i have dc2r, and i blow him off the road all the time, and if he does go faster once, it aint for long as something breaks........hahahaah
but you cant go past a boosted 13b.............
although my dc2r does sound quite tuff..........hehehe
are FD's more reliable than FC's? if you're after turbo rear wheel drive and want more reliability than a rx7, then try a S15, should be able to get one in good condition for under $30k too.
but if the choice is only between rx7 and dc5 i'd probably go with an fd rx7 but only if it was in good condition as i'd hate an unreliable car, and like others have said, dc5r similar to dc2r.
Apparently FDs have their fair share of reliability problems. Not as bad as the old FC, but they still aren't as solid as something like a Skyline GTR or Supra.
MR2 (SW20T - gen3 onwards)
what were the reasons you decided on the dc5r and rx7?
i smell a hint for taking it to the track...
FD > DC5R
actually, pretty much anything > DC5R imho
thats why i suggested gen3 onwards, the bonus is that it has 168kw engine.
they are pretty cars to get around if you know how to drive a mid-engined rearwheel drive turbo cars.....
i had a gen2 version and had heaps of fun, at the time, i couldnt find a decent gen3 for an engine transplant.:thumbdwn:
13B-REW is pretty good stock as long as you don't increase the boost, it'll live a long and happy life. As soon as you start to increase boost say more than 4psi than stock which is from memory 7psi... Then you can kiss the turbos goodbye (Ceramic build and Turbine housing crack :p) and probably engine failure. If you wanted more power, I'd ditch the sequential and revert to a single or a parallel turbo setup and look towards some engine work like better Apex seals, lighter rotors, Eccentric Shafts, Mild porting, etc etc
SW20 is good stuff especially if you get the late model GT-S, you pretty much get the GT4 3S-GTE :D
you want rear wheel drive or front wheel?
keep your dc2 or FD. there shouldnt be a reason to go from a dc2-dc5 unless your car is turning to shit and want somethign newer. If you want something faster and just better in every way except for fuel efficiency and probably reliability FD. I would definately buy the FD they are an awesome car..oh way better than an s2k aswell.
FD ftw!!
