okay... im new to this formun and was wondering is it ONLY the civ type r that has red cam covers?
cause i got whats claimed to be a 'b16a' by the lady who sold it to me and her exact words were "this off a 1994 eg9, will fit your civic, got vtech double overhead cam" (sorry the lady did say it like that she was a bit of a fob) then this is where i got to the thinking....
since when did a b16a come red cam covers?
is this really a b16a? no they arent sprayed from what i see
Check the engine number on the front of the engine mate. Sometimes rocker covers are just sprayed red/yellow/green because they look cool..
If it says B16A then its genuine :D
Otherwise, take the car for a drive and rev it to 5600 rpm :D

Only the Type r varients have red engine covers for the B series engines.
i.e. B16B (jdm only) and B18c7 B18c Spec R (jdm only)
however, the red rocker cover is exactly the same as any other rocker cover only its red. $250 will get you a new one from the marketplace ;)

to answer the question - Integra type R's AND civic Type R's have the same red valve cover from the factory, however the H22A Type S also comes with a Red Valve cover in some versions (sometimes it's Blue !).. out of the old Euro Type R.
as been said, the rocker cover can easily be replaced with a b18cR or b16bR cover...
check the engine code :).
if it turns out she's selling a b16b at b16a price... take it!! :)

does it matter if its a 1b6a or b16b? ur paying for a b16a, id be stoked if u got a b16b instead...

like it has been said before, the engine cover can be very easily replaced or even sprayed to red... most of the time the sprays have a glossy finish so if its like then, then its most probably just a spray
alot people change it so a mugen or custom engine covers, its simply for looks..
Like madgrk, check the engine number for b16a's its found just under the valves on the engine block to the left and very easy to spot (unless theres an oil leak like mine had >_<)
If it is a b16b .. bagain mate! they're top engines very rare in aus and kill at top end =)..

ok guy i went to have a closer look and there is a plate on the radiator support saying EK9!!!!!!
is this definately a type r civ? if so that means the lady is trying to sell it for $2800 aint that dirt cheap for a type r motor?

they plate near the radiator mount doesnt mean that much..
it's important that u check the identification on the engine.
it it's b16a it'll say b16a
if it's Civic type R
i'tll say B16b
so check that out..
with the red rocket covers
u can just spray it red..
