Rnb & Gangsta Rap....best Speakers/amps To Use

i was reading one on HARDSTYLES n shit but that didnt reli help me


what would be the best way to go about getting loud music and good bass pumpin out of a 94 civic sedan....atm im running stock 6 inch speakers in front, 6.5 inch alpine type S 2 way speakers in the rear, Alpine V12 Amp & A 12 Inch Sub

to be honest bass is nice as is but its not loud enough

what would u ppl recommend strictly for R&B music

apprecaite that

my budget is about $1000 on speakers n amps ETC

my first suggestion for a good bass is to sound proof the front door, parcel shelf and boot area... that probably cost you around $300-400 depending on the material used..

listen to the sound after that and then upgrade your gear... btw, what sub are u running now?

for loud bass I found kicker CVR12 gives out tight and deep bass... good for RnB music. Other sub I've heard good for RnB is the Rockford T1 series. Basically if u want loud bass go for american designed subs... but this is from personal experience, others may say different..

With the sub,flip the speaker over and screw it down upside down.Then switch the wires that run to the sub,i.e + to - and - to +.And make sure there a breather hole in the sub.
By doing that you will get a deeper,punchier bass sound.So much better.All I listen to in the car is Hip hop,RnB.90% 2 Pac :)

umm i have a 12 inch alpine type x sub and a mrd1005 v12 monoblock amp both alpine and its all pretty good except the pricing maybe if u got the type r sub with a more appropriate amp for it you could reach within your budget im quite sure, secondly i have a sealed box :|

lol i pretty much got the bass covered i am happy with it...im running a pioneer sub im not sure what my sisters boyfriend gave it to me its really bassy good for rnb...my real prob is the loudness...its just doesnt sound loud enough maybe im deaf from listening to music too loud all these years but u kno i gotta put my headunit up to 38 or 39(highest it goes is 40) just to get some sort of loudness...

would splits be the difference here? as ive only got stock 6 inchs in the front

I'm no expert but sounds like you may need a more powerful amp OR 2 amp's.Then get someone to tune it.

Inverting a sub will make no difference to a subs' sound. Newton's third law dictates this. The only possible difference is created by an increase in enclosure volume due to the motor structure and magnet no longer displacing volume within the enclosure (this difference will be negligible). Mounting inverted is for looks only (I'm not suggesting this is a bad thing, I had my sub mounted inverted for quite some time).

what pioneer sub is it and how many watts are you feeding it?
Also is the box made to spec or did you just use any old box?

get a multimeter and check the voltage your amp is getting. could be the case of bad wiring/earth not feeding the amp enough volts.

if everything is in order and you just want more loudness... get a bigger amp and a better sub... id max :D

ps. splits wouldnt do much good in your case as rnb/rap is more towards sub bass than mid bass.

It definately made mine a deeper punchier sound.It's louder too.I just put a 6cm hole with the normal black plastic thing you use from jaycar.All good :thumbsup:

This is advice i offer to alot of people... think where the music is coming from.. IE rap/rnb ( USA ) so try and get something made in the usa... so maybe somthing like DD or RE? u probly what a very loose sub for rap.. so u get more a bounce sound... but imo i would use DYNAUDIO speakers... and if u get a sub u will not need 6x9.. just 2 sets of 6.5 will suit nicely

IT has nothing to do with where they're made. it all depends on the sound characterstics of each speakers.

if you listen to rnb and like the sound of focals, you'd go with focals not DD just cos its made in the US.

what do you mean by a loose sub?

focals are french... but it is true that you have to match the charateristics of the speaker and not just the country they were designed in.

sound like dyns are well out of his budget as well... in any case itd be a good idea to head down to a dedicated car audio shop (not strathfield or jb) and try some of the music he likes to listen to on the various splits to see how they go :)

in general. the country where they where designed was made for listening to a majority of a certin type of music.. not all though.. as for a loose sub... ask when u go into ur audio store. but it simple.. does your music have tight or loose bass?... is it really punchy or does it string?

the "looseness" of the sub depends on the box. if your enclosure is on the smaller side, the sub usually wont play as deep but is tight and punchy.

On the other hand, if your enclosure is on the bigger side, it will play a bit lower/deeper but mostly likely will loose its tightness(accuracy) and sound a bit boomy and has a lag, which is to be avoided.


so the best thing to do is make a box to spec and the sub will be play to the best of its ability (also dependent of the amp of course). Avoid pre fab boxes if you can.

If you want it louder, go two subs. You can get a sub that is double the power but to the human ear, it won't sound twice as loud. If you want it louder, go the Kicker Comp C12 subs in a box and get a monoblock that will run around 300-400rms. You'll be more than happy with it for sure. Don't bother buying another single sub and a new amp and expect to hear a big difference.

get some cheap 10" or 12" woofers and build a wicked one box then feed them around 1000wrms and she'll be right the box is quite large tho.

I have an Alpine car, Type X Splits front n back, Reference head unit, PDX digital amps and Type X 12" sub and I can say, take away the sub, the type x splits (front=SPX-17PRO, rear=SPX-17REF) on they own produce enuf midbass to fool you into thinkin there is a shitty xplod in there, at the same time running a full (reference) signal from source to speakers, produces some pretty nice sound...

also, check up MEA man, that is the place to ask a question like this... but you might get forum bullied by geeks on that site... which is fkn annoying

the last sound off i went to there was an accord wagon there running 2 alpine type r thingys. the 2 of them were almost as loud as my 1
now, this might be because his were a year old, and mine was 1 month old. but i'm not sure how you can say my fusion is shit and tell me that alpine is the ticket?

type x = 2 type r's

Type X (splits and subs) = TEH SHI7
Type R = Doof Doof for a budget
Type S = Half a Type R
Type E = Sony Xplod = Type X Splits Woofers

Fusion = discounted at almost every car audio shop in sydney, cuz they cannot sell it

Ill give fusion some credit on they do make good 15's and a very nice alarm system... But i would sooner buy a JL 13" and a boomerang...

But to each his own and if it makes your sh!t rattle, then its doing its thing and if you love it, keep lovin it, I was throwing out my opinion on fusion from my own experiences, there is far higher quality available, that I guarantee...

I rkn a DD would put your fusion to shame... and that DD could be upto 3 years old and still do it ;-)

type r will handle a beating a lot longer than type x's tho..

but you don't need to "beat" a type x to get the same result as high powered type r... you can run the type r utilising both voice coils and push it as hard as it can be pushed, but you wont even produce what the type x on one VC can... trust me

Okies, just asked the guy what he runs... he's runnnig 1000w per sub.
he says they're the 1300w rms each.
It left me wondering why his 2000wrms wasn't running as loud as my 1000wrms.

two subs will normally yield more sound pressure.. unless ur talking about 2 50 year old subs compared to a new type X or something.. but generally speaking two is usually bassier then one but i'd like to know why u disagree

if you have 2 x 500w rms subs verses 1 x 1000w rms sub
you will have better bass from the 2 subs.... provided all other spec's are the same.
the only way the single sub would be better is that it takes up less space.

The record that FUSION were claiming to hold has never been verified by DB DRAGRACING, who have been running SPL comps here and in NZ for the past 8 or so years, that also includes AUTOSALON NZ were Fusion claim to have broken the record BUT GUESS WHAT no record EVER, So there for we still doubt it ever happened, I also work in car audio AND Fusion has never been able to give me any proof of this & we are Fusion Dealers.

But anyway, 2 subs is generally gonna appear to produce more bass, but thats cuz of SPL, sound pressure level, how much air is being moved measured in decibels. 2 Subs = larger surface area of the moving part of the speakers that causes air to vibrate and produce sound.

But we are not talking about 2 subs, we talkin ONE sub on its own IN COMPARISON with other subs ON THEIR OWN...

two subs compared to one is like having forced induction vs NA...

It all depends on the budget really and musical preference...
low budget, get some good front speakers and source... maybe skip on the sub for the time being if you're rock etc. stuff where a good set of front speakers and decant back speakers put out ample bass (front speakers more important than back ones...) Or, if you're into drum and bass, hip hop, RnB, dance, whatever relies on it's beats and bass more, you may want to spend a bit more money on a sub and amp package. And a good enclosure will help you get the most out of your gear, as well as sound insulation... like those dynaxorb mats or whatever they are.

About one sub vs. 2... dunno what it's like with SPL, but for sound quality, I'm sure 1 better quality sub will be a better option than 2 cheaper ones.

Big budget? You're laughing.

About what to get... all comes down to preference again and shop around and see what you like and do your research, as some brands may surprise you, and others may be overrated.

Awesome, seems heaps practical a setup for a day to day car... and also seems really within a $1000 budget...

In answer to your original post, on a budget like that, go for mainstream consumer brands (Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, JL)

you got $1000 and you want hectic bass...

YOU as the driver, want the bass, so you want to focus on the Front stage and Sub more than the rear stage.

chuck the stockies you got mounted in the front and buy some $200~$300 Splits that can be mounted as Coaxials. The ROCKFORD FOSGATE P162s is a great choice as it is from the PUNCH series, known for good mid-sub bass, and has 2 tweeters / channel, mountable seperately or coaxially (tho I rkn you could get the best sound by wiring and mounting them as split coaxials!)

You already have the Type S in the back, they are better than stock, so keep them, and power them from the source.

Now you have $700~$800 left for a 4channel amp & sub (2 channels for the splits up front & 2 to be bridged for the sub)

That much money really isnt much in the world of car audio, especially this category of amplifiers & subs.

But you could easily survive with something like an MTX 12" in a ported box (they come pre-fab for around $250 from strathfield car radio for the T7512-04 woofer). 400W RMS DVC is the minimum you wanna consider in this selection, cuz anything less won't be worth it.

Go for ported enclosures so you get LOUDER sub bass, not so much deeper or punchier, louder, cuz more air can be moved

Say the sub you choose costs you $250, your left with about $500 exclusivley for an amplifier.

you would be looking at this stage for a 4channel that can put out at MINIMUM 100w/channel, so you can at least bridge it to 200W for the sub.

great amps that fall in that price bracket offering that sort of power come from manufacturers like Kenwood, JL, Pioneer, Alpine & Soundstream.

An example, the Alpine MRP-F600 4channel amp, powering 100w RMS x 4 channels, however it is bridgable to have 2x100W channels & a bridged 300W 3rd channel for the sub. RRP ~$500

So pretend you were to buy the components I have made references to:
Front: RF P162S Splits @ $250
Sub: MTX Audio Thunder 7500 @ $250
Amp: Alpine MRP-F600 @ $500

there is a $1K system that will be very bassy, but still retain your high end.

There are brands similar in both price and output/quality - you don't have to stick to my advised products, they are examples of what you can have.

Remember that you still wanna hear they voices, so go with some good splits like those aforementioned and you'll kill two birds, retain high end and also add some MID BASS!!!! cant forget about that mid bass!

on second thoughts, after reading the rest of your posts (lol) go buy a hectic mono block amp (1.1000 or summin) and save up for a JL 13W7 and custom ported enclosure.

the 13" is amazing... punchy as a 10", loud as, if not louder than a 12", deep as a 15"

if space is not a problem... go with MTX 9500 :D

I have one... but you need a good amp with shit load of power. this sub rated 1000RMS, I am running it on DLS A6 amp pumps 874 RMS @2 ohms given take.

I choose the A/B amp instead of D amp due to the higher damping factor so it controls the bass better imo.
