Honda Service - To Be Or Not To Be

Hey guys,

Just put this thread up to see how many fellas & laddies prefer the HONDA DEALER SERVICE or another.

I have done my 1000k which was free.

10000k which cos me around $250.
Change of oil, Cleaned the car ...... etc

20000k soon to be in 2 weeks time. which will cost me around $280.

I just want to know wether there is a difference between both parties?

Like i can do change oil and all that but the electronic stuff im a bit cluesless on.

Is it worth sticking with HONDA DEALERS for the long run or going to another party to SAVE on money?

Can i get your opinion peeps.

mine is about flat at $180 for FD1, 10k, 20k,30k service
40k jumped to $400 due to tappet adjustment, wiper & air filter change

Mine's similar to DMX's although my 10k,20k,30k were about 220

ive done around 13500.. if i remembered right it was about 215.. i doubt they changed anything.. they cleaned my car tho.. i have a box of fortune cookie in the car... and i think they took one.. =(

when you consider the 10, 20 and 30,000km services are nothing more than an oil change (add oil filter at 20,000) the servicing is way over priced. Save money, buy genuine oil and filters (keep reciepts) and change the oil yourself.

dmx, where did you do your servicing for that price $180.00?

I'll be doing my 10k service soon. Need to get a few quotes from workshops and a few dealerships in Sydney

same here, mine will be in abt 3 weeks. Got quoted $240 at PW and $250 at my dealer RD :thumbdwn: Thinnking of going to either my family mechanic or Hanny.

yeah my dealer is RD as well

Hanny's I'll recommend, I use to take my DC2 for servicing and mechanical repairs. I'll probably opt for them in the end but wanted a general overview of what most places are charging

after my 20k, the car felt more spritely maybe it's the castrol edge 0-40 oil.

I just did my 10,000k service at Scotts Honda Artarmon
Cost $155. They washed and vacuumed the car too !! :p

I'd keep doing your service with honda purely for the fact that minute you take it elsewhere and something goes wrong with the car your warranty is void, unless you take it to ultratune dealers where you don't lose the warranty.

My services aren't bad $110 for 10K & 30K, $220 for 20K & 40K and i know that my 50K will cost around $500.

At least with them you know that your getting genuine honda products put inot your vehicle.

The Honda dealer where I got my Civic 3 weeks ago actually recommended Hanny's for log book servicing.

20k just done on monday @ GREAT WESTERN HONDA.

DAMAGE DONE $290

Also fixed the HANDBRAKE RECALL ISSUE.

I must say an oil change makes wonders for the RIDE.

LOVEN IT.

With the hole issue thing with dealers or taking it to another well ive made up my mind that MONEYs MONEY it dont grow on trees which is a bummer but if you happy ISH ALLL GOOOOOD.

Prolly stick with the dealers till my 3 years is up.

Where do you go for servicing?

Hey Uge70y. Did you change your oil at 1000km or 5000km after getting your car. My FN2 Type R is due for 1000km service next weekend. I know they are not going to do anything but I was thinking of getting Honda oil filter and oil and changing the oil myself.. Wats ur thoughts?

^^^ only the first 1000km, isn't it a bit too soon to do that (oil/filter)?

Cylinder bores usually have a cross-hatch pattern for bedding in of rings on a new engine. As the rings bed in they wear off the cross hatch pattern to smooth walled cylinder bores in perfect fit with the rings. Guess where the metal goes from the cross hatching - into your oil, as well as out the exhaust. So 1000km oil & filter change a great idea IMHO.

And any qualified mechanic can do services without voiding your warranty, not just ultratune. Ultratune can do it because of the Trade Practices Act provisions, and so can any qualified mechanic. Ultratune just market this fact better.

yeah thats right smithy... always a good idea to get the new oil out early...

Well... just had the 10,000 km service done today... t'was $200 and something cents.

A bit dear for an oil change. On the other hand it's at the moment more convinient than elsewhere.

Dude the 1000km is just inspection man they dont touch it i got my oil change n all dat at 10000k.

All they do is inspect man.

You can if you want ma man but theres no point.

The Oil first hand is usually that special oil that is used to brake in your engine. Its pretty good its not like back in the day oils.

If you do hard driving then maybe change it but youll be fine.

Took me less than 5 days to hit 1000k n 2months to hit 10000k.

I was like 2 months early for the service n my FN2 is doin fine.

After the 20k service it felt like brand new again.

So wouldnt bother changin it man.

Just had my 1000K service on the weekend, but actual KM's done is closer to 2000K. I asked the Honda guy if I can get the oil change as well, but he said that it uses a different oil to break in the engine and not to touch it until 6 months or close to 10K, which ever comes first.

i've clocked it @ 7000km's in 5-6 months. Still waitin for my next 10,000KM's or 6 months (august) to be up and down to Hannys for a oil change :D

Yeh, Hannys is pretty cheap as I took my father inlaw's CRV for a 30K service and they charged $132.00 and they said its the same for my Civic. Im still thinking I might bring it to a Honda dealer for the first 50K. Honda dealer in Blacktown quoted me $175 so I might bring it there for the 10K service.

yeah they charged abou $120-$130 for my DC2 for servicing. Roughly about the same, but $175 from the blacktown dealer is not too bad, its about $50 difference and probably better for you logbook. Is that Trivett, dont recall if they had a dealer there?

Not sure if its Trivett but its in the cnr of Sunnyholt close to the trainstation.

Don't forget the handbrake replacement when you are there.

honda recommends AGAINST it at 1000kms

honda designs, builds, services and warrants the car so i take what they say

honda is the largest engine manufacturer in the world, they know what they are doing

my car just hit 10ks, started to have ticking noise, i m not realy worry but i just wanna askk

when you go to the shop, get your car service, what did they service? especially for 10ks and 20ks service

any valve clearance check, ecu check or they just change oil etc etc

i think valve clearance adjustment,timing check and ecu etc are the most important one, becoz i m not sure for hondas
how many K's this should be done

says on the log books, Pretty sure it says 10 & 20 are only an oil change

Fair enough, but any reason WHY? .. for interest sake.

Just because a manufacturer recommends against it, doesn't mean that's good advice per se. Personally, I'd want some reasons for the advice.

As an example, if you buy a new Falcon, Ford will recommend you don't need to change the transmission fluid on their 4sp auto for 100,000km. Reason - it will go that far without changing. My problem with this is that , yes it will go that far without changing, (just out of the warranty period), and then the whole auto will crap itself.
The better advice from auto-shops, is change transmission oil every 40k.

So what's the reason behind it from Honda?

were is the the ticking noise coming from below ur feet?

does it tick when u accelerate from stop n decelerate to stop?

if so it might be the sub frame.

I just got mine re tightened all the nuts n bolts re torqued.

I found out around the 15 -20k mark i thought it was nothing but it really bugged me. So on my 20k service i asked to check it but they siad no fault.

So i was like ok but i just kept hearing it non stop so i asked again for a booking i drove it with the service guy n he confirmed it so they fixed it.

Did you get a sensation with the ticking ie like a pulse or vibration too?

I can also hear the ticking noisy and a read somewhere in another forum that when they change to a lightweight pulleys the sound is gone.

I changed my OIL & FILTER @ 1000km, and thereafter at 5000km intervals.I do not change oil without a filter. Auto Trans oil gets changed every 20,000km

the major services are at 50k and 100k?

in between would be minor oil changes, oil filter changes, inspections.

Ok.. just got my Civic back from her first service.. sigh.. an extremely unhappy experience... :thumbdwn::thumbdwn: so i'm just gonna rant on for a bit!

Been waiting for to get my reverse sensors fitted and since I have a Red FD, they didn't have them in stock and have been on back order since I got the car. So I book the car in for its first service and the dealer assured me that the sensors were in stock.

Come today, dropped the car off all the way at Rosebery, in the middle of nowhere at 8:30 am. At 4:30pm after taking 2 buses just to get back to the damn dealership, I was told the sensors could not be installed because the color was wrong.

I wouldn't have been so pissed off, if they told me the truth... maybe ordered the wrong colour, didnt' check stock properly... etc.. etc. But instead, the service manager tells me that even though the box said they were red, they turned out to be a different colour when they opened it and it wasn't their fault and nothing could be done.

C'mon!!! we're talking about genuine sealed Honda parts here! Wat are the chances of it being in-correctly packed? If they didn't have the sensors, I would've driven all they way to Rosebery to get my service done, I would've just went to Hornsby Honda 2 mins away from my place... instead of driving for 1.5 during peak hr and taking another hr on the bus!!!...

To top it off, the service manager was so arrogant and didn't even apologize... just kept saying there's nothing we can do, we've put it on express order.. we'll call you when it gets here.. etc.. etc... ok.. i'm not expecting great customer service and the first service is free... but this is just bull Sh*t!

... the sales guys there are great.. but the service dept there's crap .. defn won't service there again... .. sigh..but still have to go back again to get my sensors fitted.. .. but feel so much better after my rant..:)

5K is almost up and was thinking of replacing the engine oil myself. Can I get away without replacing the oil filter as on the book it doesn't even need to be change on the 10K service.

I've decided to take the car every 10K to a Honda dealer, but every 5K I'll just change the oil myself.

I change oil & filter every 5000km. Personally i cant see the point of changing oil without a filter. As your car is still under warranty i suggest you use genuine oil & filter, and keep receipts.

dealerships are a rip off.
do it yourself.
or
take it to a certified mechanic who uses genuine parts.
or
buy the parts yourself and take it to him and just pay for labour.

and keep all receipts for warranty purposes.

yer dealerships are a rip i work for one and 10k 20k and 30k are the same baisically a oil and filter change and thats it you would be much better off buying the parts and doing it your self but lil heads up honda oil filter's have a smaller o'ring so you tend to haft to do it a bit tighter

Hey, why is the 50,000km service the major one? I had mine done at 40,000kms.. they found some damage when they removed the rocket cover, apparently some bits of metal filings from somewhere.. then forced me to buy the extended warranty or fork out $1500 to fix... anyways that's another story

i'm nearing the 50,000km service and was wondering if anyone can remember how much it cost?

got the 50k service today. $220ish as usual. but they found an oil leak from the vtec solenoid. In the report it states "Replaced faulty vtec solenoid".

Has anyone had any issues like this before? I seem to have a LOT of problems with my car, luckily I purchased the extended warranty (like i had a choice). At my last service they found that the cam lobes were scraping against something and found metal shavings inside. went 2 weeks without my car. i wonder what they'll find next service..
