from what the guys in the US are doing, they seem to make max power around 6800-7100rpm... so keeping my 7400 rev limit should still be fine :D
-
looking forword til you finished the project. interesting what type of cam you using and where did you get your head from. i want to do this for a long time, just can't make up my mind. nice job
-
im going to trial a set of ITR cams and see how they go...
i got the head from a guy in the US on K20A.org
heres some updated pics, i finished porting and polishing the throttle body, its now 68mm at the pipe inlet, 64.5mm at the narrowest, and 66mm at the rear...

How much is it to bore the throttle body?

awesome! I'll be keeping an eye on this thread

i purchased a throttle body off a J32A3 (2004 Acura TL)... theyre already DBW and they are direct bolt on (apart from having to weld up the idle bypass on the RBC)... stock they are 64mm (compared to K24A3s 60mm) which is an increase of about 12ccm :D
i bored mine out a lil more (especially on the intake side) and polished it myself... the stock surface was fairly rough, but as you can see now, its very smooth...
-
Is the throttle actuator the same or compatible with the one used on the K24A3? I am hoping that it runs off the same voltage as the Euro's throttle actuator.

ive done a few electrical tests and it seems to be the exact same mechanism... worst comes to worse, i can actually swap the drive motor and hall effect sensors out of my 60mm TB into the J32s...
ill confirm my results in a few weeks when i get a chance to swap them over...

how much did you get the tb bore? how was the job, will they able to bore it to 70mm?
thank you

i did the bore myself... so didnt cost me anything but time :D
68mm was pushing it around the top... which is why i only went to 66mm on the other side... going to 70mm probably wouldnt make any differnt with the 64mm butterfly because u cant bore that bit out anymore...
and the job is perfect (you can see you reflection in it!)
-
Id love a bigger TB. how did you do it and how much to get the butterfly fabed?
gainage?
-
^^ He said it is a TL throttle body.
-
Hmm im thinking VTC cam timing mod for 45 degrees now. Go go go!
Great stuff

physically changing it to 45degrees wont give you any gain... you have to do that, and then tune ecu to electronically advance out to 45degrees aswell... that would require K20 ecu with kpro... starts getting very expensive :(
-
why didnt you go with the RBC instead of the PRB?

lol already got the RBC intake manifold... the PRB i refer to is the PRB cylinder head... :D

o ok lol, looking good man. if you dont mind me asking, where did you source the RBC? il looking for one for my DC5

JDMYard has 1 RBC. I saw it in the display case.
-
Japan is the first port of call for all your RBC needs!!!!!! But mind you, those Malaysian and Singaporeans are snapping them up fast so hurry!
-
If you want it now now now, then JDMYard. Otherwise, ask perfectrun.com.au for a quote.

but as the others said, JDM yard has 1...
i paid about $300... but ive seen the go for anywhere between $200 to $400...

lol stock ECU :p
haha shhh... it'll work
and yes, you can be the first OZHonda member to ride shotgun lol
-
How did you do the research on what cams fit and whats needed since there doesn't seem to be much here on this mod?
Interested in your planning and expectations as it something i would like if it goes well.
Are the cams expensive?
-
i think any k-series cams work, just some wont have any gains (even losses) unless u use an ecu.
thats from what i understand.
thou some cams are i guess not that much different from stock that it can work with stock ecu settings? haha im not sure
-
wow this is gonna be awsome builds mate bet you this will ripp those v8's haha i wanna see those v8's cry :O HONDA FTW

sorry only a quick reply - im away with work again...
theyre not TODA cams... they are JDM ITR cams supplied to me by Adrian from TODA...
im hoping it'll all work well with no tuning, ecu should be able to relearn, thats what im counting on anyway...
and if your talking about the 5L V8 commodores, i can already beat them :D
-
So that means they are stock Integra VTIR cams yes?

VTIRs use B series engines. EUR003act's engine is a K series.
-
hm i wonder what its like to put the 06 cams in my 04 =P
lookin forward to your results haha

No difference. 06 and 04 are meant to be the same for AUDM.
-
o really, hmm what about the tsx 06 cams?
where those the ones that changed?
-

Yes, the 06 TSX ones are different. So if you want to try those, make sure you get 06 TSX, not AUDM or JDM 06.
Most of the additional power for the TSX06 comes from the larger inlet ports, larger throttle body, larger exhaust and high flow cat though. If you change just the cams alone, you won't get the same as what an 06 TSX does.
-
ah ic ic *gains to knowlege* =P
o wells i prob wont touch cams unless a reasonable priced ecu comes along that works haha
-
shit man whens all this getting installed and dynoed!?!?
-
the head is still over in the USA... ive got a business "looking at it" lol
hopefully i should get it back in 2-3weeks... then ive got to get a custom 3" intake (CAI or SRI) made up for it... then im taking the car around to my friends workshop... im doing all the larborous tasks, and he's gonna do the harder parts, like valve clearance/blue printing/compression testing/P2V clearance...
should only take 2-3 days to complete the install, including port matching and polish (DIY) on my RBC manifold to the J32A3 throttle body...
then after its been broken in for a few days (let the ecu try relearn everything) ill take it around to a shop to be dynoed... im gonna take it to the same two places ive been before so i can get a rough comparison...
-

stock JDM 06' DC5R cams... or Acura 06' RSX-S cams (apperently the exact same)

**** dude i wonder how this will compare to gains from extreme package of jtune (if it ever gets made lol) how much will all this cost u all up roughly?
-

im already putting out very similar power to jtune extreme...
jtune say i stock euro puts out approx 125kw, and now make 158kw..
thats a gain of approx 33kw
the dyno i used says a stock euro puts out approx 102kw, i now make 133kw...
thats a gain of approx 31kw
keep in mind i still have stock exhaust (cat back) and NO ecu tuning...
jtune package does seem to be better because of the flatter power band, and increase in torque... however, is it really worth having a loud obnoxious exhaust that vibrates and overheats for that extra torque?
so yes, once ive done all this i can easily see my car putting out well more than jtune extreme package... i dont wanna put a figure on it yet, as i have no idea how the ecu will cope with the dramatic flow changes...
-
^^ but, 102kW was not your Euro. There is quite a big difference across the dyno results of stock Euros. You might have a good condition engine that puts out much more than 102kW when stock

true... all i was trying to point out was... im nearly 100% sue that after this ill be putting down alot more power than the jtune package... without the loud annoying exhaust problems...

Maybe you are making close to the same peak power - but how relevant is peak power in day to day driving? What you get with the Jtune extreme is huge torque improvement right across the rev range as well as massive increases in power from 4000rpm onwards.
Anyway, my point is - be careful about focussing too much on peak power comparisons. With a custom tune you can work on making improvements across the rev range. At the moment you have no tune - so comparing your car to jtune extreme is somewhat premature.

are there even any extreme packages (other than prototype) actually out there on euros? thats another problem, its nice for jtune to show there massive increase in torque, but thats only on their dyno sheets, not cutomer cars...
anyway, no need to argue, this isnt about jtune, this is about me trying new things :D lol
-
The flatter or smoother power band obtained from ecu tuning tho, not just happened by itself or caused by additional parts. Logically, with camshaft and intake manifold modification + I/H/E you will produce more power than Jtune extreme package, why bother. But I would really suggest ecu tuning tho along with it.

Any updates on this Eurooact?
Im keen for info since your breaking new ground!

Throttle Body is finished and ready to go...
And i think i found a guy to make up the custom intake for me...
:D
-
What are they looking at exactly? Is there a problem or some kind of custom head work?

I wonder if my mild Jtune flash ( mine was done by doug at hondata in the usa) would work with the SC kit? Doubt it.

If you get doug to flash in the SC map instead, it should work.

You have to confirm with Doug that he is able to flash an Aus ECU with his map like how he did with Suntzu's. Also need to find out more details from Suntzu if he is using the Aus or US ECU.
-
Yeah i dunno about that. I cant see the cheap SC kits on ebay anymore so my fantasy ends.

I was sure it wouldn't be as easy as it sounds.
-
prob alot easier to just turbo the euro.
but then may lose A/C and all.

Why would you lose A/C? Spend some money and either get the Euro1 ECU or the k20A kpro'd ECU with custom harness. You get to keep the A/C but lose the immobiliser.
-
just received an email from the guys in the US...
my cylinder head is ready to be shipped to AUSSIE :D
im organising payment now, hopefully get it in the next week or two

holy as.s cant wait feels like iam the one buying it LOL

hahaha dude, i have the same problem, i want to get a bride bucket but i don't want to lose heated seats. sucks to have luxury when your modding.
will lose foglights and headlight washers when i get kit installed.

Solution: Electric blanket over Bride bucket seat.

Even if you went to get it engineered, they wouldn't give you the cert because you are disabling a safety feature. :)
