RACV Report for a 1995 Teg VTI-R Help.

Hey guys i am just looking for a few opinions on what to make of this car!
Its a 1995 Honda Integra Vti-R from a dealer with 3 months warranty or 5,000km.

Iv just got the RACV test done, and it looks like i will buy the car.
However i was just curious as to the price to repair the identified problems, or if they are real. The car has done roughly 198,500km's

The report shows there is :
Engine:
Slight oil dampness around the engine box area ( do i worry ? )

Transmition:
The left drive shaft, outer C.V. Joint rubber boot split & subase leackage evident
Note : - Right outher C.V. joint rubber boot quite heavily cracked

Suspension:Both rear trailing arms, main support bushes cracked & seperating, creacking noises are evident from suspension/body areas on road test. (replace brushes and re-assess)
Some wear to front suspension brushes.

Breaks:
Rear breaks 65-70% wear.
Tyres should be rotated / Wheel alignment.


Iv been told that the C.V. Joints would cost $500, to replace both, and i learnt that the thermostat is about $30 to replace.
However im not sure how much this suspension issue would cost. How much would it cost roughly to replace the rear and front brushes (if thats the correct thing to do?)

The overall RACV test says "Go".

Also i was wondering if it was a good idea to go to Razz Tech for the service/repair as iv seen many users suggest it. Just curiouse on your thoughts as this is My first car.

On another note! The car has a modified exhaust system. Would replacing the muffler or putting a silencer in it effect the performance of the car (looking to reduce the noise) or is there another way ?

Dont worry pretty normal.

Transmition:

You need to replace the cv boots themselves. Not too exxy ~ $70 or so a side incl parts and labour.

Some wear to front suspension brushes.

Its normal for a car of its age and k's. Nothing drastically affecting the handling of the car.

Breaks:
Rear breaks 65-70% wear.
Tyres should be rotated / Wheel alignment.

Normal.

I'd replace the CV boot and bushes...

About the only one that will adversely affect handling is the front control arm where it joins the knuckle, if it breaks you will have 1-2" of free play in the wheel from side to side

The rear end is pretty solid

Still worthwhile replacing the lot of them

What about the price of fixing the suspension, im abit worried about it.

And only $70 for the actual CV boots / brushes! My mates have been telling me around 400-500! Can you just confirm that?

i said $70 per side for the CV boots. This is the rubber boot + grease replaced only. This is what your car needs....$500 sounds like the price for entire new or rebuilt driveshafts/cv joints.

no way its 400-500, 70 seems about right

Sweeeeeet, now all i need to know is how much it costs to fix the suspension. Thnx so much!

Buy the cv boots from bursons and just get a mechanic to fit them if you can't do it yourself.
The cv boots are cheap and fitting them about $100+ usually.

Ok sounds good, i might go to that shop and check it out.

Anyone got any ideas with the suspension issues?

i wrote brushes before which was wrong! sorry

Can anyone just hazard a guess ?

The rear trailing arm bushes are rotten on pretty much all 10 year old Honda's by now. On the standard suspension rear end grip is not a priority so it isn't much of an issue.

you'd want to get the trailing arm bushes replaced first if you plan on doing it before a wheel alignment, it isn't cheap to get it done if you're going Honda w/shop.

The dealer called me today and said he would fix both the problems before purchase anyway :D so im very happy.

i would ask if the timing belt has been done being close to 200kms
i would get the compression test and leak down test done too
it should be on the report
check the gear box still shifts fine in all gears
check if everything works fine 1st before i worry about those easy fix items u mentioned

once u drive away dealer will only warrant car to a certain amount for each problem if u have a ny
after that amout u will have to foot the bill on a warrenty claim
