S80 gearbox question

hi huys, well ive got a 2000 B18C7 setup in my 99 cxi and ive noticed the gearbox is starting to get a bit sloppy in gear changes (feals loose and ever so slight random crunching through some gears.

I was thinking of refreshing the box (syncros, bearings, seals and bushes) but i was also thinking of changing final drive too. to help with torque and 1/4 mile runs. but its the final drive is where im getting confused.

i know the JDM S80 is 4:7 but as for the aud ive been told both 4:4 and 4:7,
and b4 ppl say search, all i could find is jdm spec.

So can anyone please clarify the specs on the aud S80 and also would 4:9 be too short for daily driver with regular strip work too.. mind you i do get on the highway as well...

All DC2 integra gearbox is S80

GSI 4.2fd
Vtir 4.4fd
type r b18c7 4.7fd lsd (N3E)
type r 96 spec 4.4fd lsd
type r 98 spec 4.7fd lsd (N3E)

difference with 98 spec and 96 spec is
1.Final drive
2.98 spec has a longer 4th & 5th gear

i was thinking of doing the same upgrade, i reckon its better to have a 98 spec gearbox and upgrading it to 4.9 so ur daily and highway driving will still be ok.

since 96 box 4th and 5th gear is shorter, upgrading to 4.9.. forget about driving on the freeway

SO with mine being out of a 2000 itr, will a 4:9 be too short for the highway?

if u got 2000 itr then im pretty sure u got the 4.7fd already in it. 4.9fd should be a good upgrade

if box is crunching try changing the oil first. Some nice fresh oil helps at times.
agree with above, you've got a 4.7 if its the ITR s80 from a 2000 model.
I think a 4.9 will be short for a daily driver. Ask Benson, i beleive he had a 4.9FD in his eg

ive found that its only started to crunch ever since the thrust or thrw out bearing had started to make the whining noise.. and im confident that it has something to do with the bearing.. the noise only accours at hight revs and when i put the clutch in or throw the box into nutral if i push down on the clutch the noise goes away....i had alook at the shifter bushing and yes they are shot.. so upgrade next week hopefully..

sounds though like the input thrust bearing may be screw and not releasing properly.
Better get that sorted so it doesn't ruin the box further

Thats the next plan.. just sorted out the tailing arm bushes..... :)

yeah, they are on there way..

is there an actual way to test what final drive u have? i was told that you put your car in 4th gear and drive at 100kmh and your revs will tell you what final drive you have. somebody confirm?

yeah pretty much you can tell. You just need someone who knows what they have and compare the revs vs speed
