2004 civic fuel problem

yesterday had the unfortunate experience of emptying half my fuel tank on to the road via a disconnected line on a small round ended cylinder fitted just forward of the left rear wheel. Is this a filter? Couldn't work out how line was supposed to be fitted as it didn't have the standard clips I am used to. Is it a big deal to replace this thing whatever it is or refit the line? TIA.

Talked to the dealer. It seems this is a fuel filter which was replaced by him 20000 km ago. He will be looking at it tomorrow and fixing it for nothing I would assume.
