unusual wear on clutch

Hey All

I purchased the attached kit 3 years ago and installed it in a B16A cable box, has been fine with only very slight judder on occasions, the gearbox requires a rebuild that's the reason why I have found this - the uneven wear due to heat, assuming it is due to a faulty pressure plate? You can see slight scratching on the clutch plate on every second rivet and the faces of the other two are self explanatory.

What exactly went bad in the gearbox? Input shaft bearing possibly? By the looks of things there could be several causes.
1. Pressure plate is clamping unevenly due to internal fault (less likely but should be able to test with some balls of bluetac on a flat surface and pressing pressure plate down and accurately measuring squash)
1.1 Pressure plate not bolted to flywheel properly or some debris under one side (most likely as this would cause the same pressures on only one side regardless of rotation)
2. Flywheel clamp surface not flat or ground down incorrectly or faulty if new (this would also cause the same pressure on one side regardless of rotation)
3. Collapsed clutch release bearing resulting in uneven release of the pressure plate but this would be a rotational thing and by the looks of things you have concentrated heat of one side unless its getting stuck in the same pattern
4. Clutch cable could also be stretched causing the excessive burn on one side due to not releasing enough although the uneven issue is something else, with the clutch depressed and car in gear did the car still creep forward when revved from memory?


Having another look at the pictures I can see that the pressure plate springs have been rubbing on all but one section onto the clutch disc spring region.

Try piece together and check above mentioned and let us know

They didn't torque the bolts and also looks like you slip the clutch too often and burn it
