i was just wondering if i were to get the ECU tuned better would the civic coupe with a D16Y8 give a better vtec. cause right now the way the car is, i can't feel any vtec.

do you even have an aftermarket ecu? or a piggyback
i had a EJ8 mate, and crossover was very weak, a few things to open it up are
headers, full cold air intake system, larger intake plenum
just my 2cents the ecu is fine as it is for now
mate you cant get "better vtec"... vtec a system built into the way the top end of your motor works... you cant make it better, it is how it is...
you can tune a stock motor for some gains (OEM manufacturers build in some dummy factor for people who dont take care of their car, or people who want "better vtec") so you can get some gains by giving the car a more agressive tune, but your best off getting the standard bolt on parts like an exhaust system and intake, then spending money to tune, otherwise you will tune twice.
also, not all motors with "vtec" will give you that noticable changoever feel when "vtec kicks in"... your motor is not designed to do that, if you want that, put a B series motor in... you CAN open up your intake or put in an SRI or CAI intake where you will hear the changover but you will never ever feel it
i was just wondering thats all, wanted a cost effective way to get better performance form the car. and i saw on ozhonda someone with the same car and same engine and he says he can feel his vtec all the time. i thought it might be because of the tuning in the civic coupe thats why i can't feel the vtec. but when i save up some more money probably slap on a turbo in the car. cause it's got so much room in the bonnet.
^^^Zilli is right dude... just coz you can feel vtec doesn't mean it's a performance gain...
heck turn the x-over on a stock motor and you can 'feel' vtec kick in coz the low cam power starts going down then all of a sudden you switch to the hi cam well ahead of its efficient crossover.
look at every single dyno sheet posted here:

and look at all the graphs that have a sudden dip in the middle of the curve... these setups are great examples of when you can 'feel vtec kick'. but they will all tell you it's undesirable and you want the x-over smooth.
i think the problem is you don't understand what "VTEC" even is...

What you can only learn through experience is that "cost efficient power upgrade" and "Honda" dont work together at all...
I had an EJ8. And to me, vtec was just a sound - but it was damn nice with a pod.
You can get performance camshafts tho but thats when $$$ goes up.
this is true~i have D16y1 and i can hear vtec hardout~i have js copy intake and removed resonators. but still doesnt feel as if i got turbo or anything. best thing to do is swap engine to b seriesQuote:
