    Honda to break 1000hp?

A friend emailed this to me:

    'Suzuka Special' nears 1000hp

Honda may become the first Formula One engine manufacturer to break the 1000hp barrier since the turbo-powered mid eighties, the Japanese company's Takeo Kiuchi said on Wednesday.

    Will Honda be the first?

    Heya All....

If anyone thinks that the cars these days don't have over 1000hp already are dreaming.

The turbo V8 F1 cars were like the Group B rally cars and the T16 Pug got privatly dynoed and that hit over 1500hp at all 4.

All im saying is that the F1 cars these days are over 1000hp in my opinion, who dyno's them FIA and the team.
If the media found out that the cars were that powerful imagine what they would say?

    BAN THE SPORT etc.

I dunno how much they really have.

I guess you just have to do the maths - 3.2 litre V10 19,000rpm

BTW - the turbo F1s were a 1.5litre.... Mate in the UK actually has an ex-tyrrel F1 Turbo, as new condition (reco), good for, ooo, around 4BAR!!! Using it on the new RB30 we are building him. Best bit was, he got the turbo for free from his mate was was an ex-tyrrel machanic and flogged it at the end of the turbo season

I'd be happy to pay $5,000 for that engine + turbo

You would be happy considering the bottom end alone is worth $5000 - head alone over $5000, and the turbo - priceless really, but in $$$ value, $10K wouldn't buy you one (a Trust T88 is 10K new in perspective)

Interesting and good to see Honda is coming on strong in the F1 engine department, but do they think the other teams (Ferrari for example) are just going to sit back and not make any improvements themselves for next year?

My firend has an old turbo BMW F1 engine in his BMW 2002 sedan, now bored out to 2 litres. It's a 100% track car, but damn that thing has got some serious stink. Even in it's detuned state, I'm sure he was saying it is still capable of up to around 700hp....

1000hp with NA 3.0ltr ?? they probably have but for the time being can't make it last under race conditions. But i'm sure they'll hit 1000hp soon enough.

F1 engines last time were only 1.5ltr turbo. indy car engines make over 1000hp but still via forced induction. F1 is mad!! Rally group B is insane!!! at least F1 they have controlled environments.

hmm, yes that is true and one of the things which makes it bad ('puts flame suit on'). yes, it becomes predictable when the drivers and constructors championships are decided well before the season

IMHO WRC is much more exciting. power restrictions, unpredictable conditions, and a wide range of drivers all with a chance of winning

anyway, yeh. as if F1 engines aren't +1000 hp anyway. i'm sure they can do it given enough bucks and time. if the real numbers ever got out, as LUD02C says, there would be a major outcry - 'motor racing is dangerous etc'

$10,000 for a piece of metal with a few turbines....... I'd rather put my child through a private education for that sort of dollars, i am come on, the hype a T66 or T88 receives these days is annoying, people coming up to me "ohh man put a Greddy T66 on your car and it will fly", it's really funny that people still pay these crazy amounts....
