Red face can you disable 4ws in 4th gen prelude?

    hey all,

this topic may have been covered but i cant find it even though i have searched, so apologies first.

was considering a 4th gen prelude as a daily. I have heared many stories about faulty 4ws, alignment issues etc etc. I am really keen on a vtir BUT was wondering can you disable the 4ws feature by pulling out a fuse? or is there any other way you can do this. the point to the whole exercise is have the power of vtec but steering of an "s" or am i better off buying an "s" and sourcing a h22a. and at the end of the day i really dont want spend to much either.

    so...any suggestions anyone??

    cheers in advance

Maybe look for an import. In Japan it was possible to have VTEC without 4WS. Model also came without a sunroof, so it should be a fair bit lighter (disconnecting 4WS doesn't remove the extra weight).

imports came with both v-tec and 4WS, AUDM vtir's didnt come with 4ws.
you may need locking pins for the rear rack though, the 4ws is quite shit as its electronic so one little thing goes wrong it wont work, the most common problem is the re-lay solder goes dry causing it not to click over there for the 4ws wont work, but problem is an easy fix, there are alot of write ups about it just google it.

    AUDM VTiRs did have 4WS.

But dsoljah's right, even if you remove the fuse there will likely be play in the rear rack, so locking it off is the safest way. But short answer is yes, you can disable it.

Yeah i used to have a 4th Gen. Fuse works for sure. Another way is to remove the system all together which isnt too hard from what i've heard. In the end i didn't remove the system, and kept the 4WS for the short time I had it.
    Its a non-VTEC thing...you wouldn't understand...unless your Honda has no VTEC either
